Philosophical studies say that Man is innately evil...

Do you guys agree with this?

So is Man made for law or is law made for Man?
Fenris
Really?! Man is innately evil? Hehe. My religion teacher in high school thought otherwise. Here's his logic:

Man was made in the image and likeness of God, and we all know that in the Catholic doctrine, God is all good. Therefore man's nature is, in a sense, intrinsically good. Logical enough. Then came the time of the Fall when this nature of man is wounded and it is then when he develops a strong inclination to sin.

So my answer to the question on whether or not I believe in this finding of philosophers is "no". Man is not innately evil but he has a strong tendency to do evil. (Is that logical?)

But I do believe that law is made for man. Just as what the ancient philosophers said: "there is a need to regulate man's actions in society". Even at the time of creation, God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge. Therefore there was already law prior to the Fall of man.

Now this may sound contradictory to what I have said earlier. If man is intrinsically good before the fall, then why did God have to make that law which Adam and Eve disobeyed? Here's my answer: If Adam and Eve were innately evil, then the Devil need not tempt them to eat the fruit since they would have the initiative to do so on their own if they were innately evil. But again, my logic may be twisted so please correct me if I'm already talking nonsense.

So sorry if my answer is too long and the reasons come from ancient sources. I thought that I had to go back to the Beginning to establish my point. Well, that's philosophy vs. theology for you. smile.gif
