Hi. This is my first time in this forum but I have been a true-Blue Blue Eagle fanatic even before I actually became an Ateneo student...as in during the Jun Reyes and Danny Francisco days pa. A friend emailed me this. He just asked me to disseminate this to as many UAAP fora as possible. To those who are part of any UAAP or college Yahoo Groups perhaps you can help me out in passing this list forward. This is aimed to help in monitoring the performance of specific referees in the 71st UAAP basketball games they officiate in.

. I hope we realize whats happening here
in extreme frustration about the officiating
. and the Tabanag incident as "case closed" .... we list down the referees in the hopes that someone out there knows these guys
and may report clues
.. when these guys perhaps bragged and spilled the beans when they were drunk
or maybe bought a new house right after the UAAP season
or is perhaps driving a new BMW
. or is maintaining a mistress or two
or sends children to US schools
. or anything!
actually, I applaud this as a sign, a desperate one at that, that people are hungry for change, are trying to institute genuine reform
. but isnt this the job of our leaders and authorities?
who are receiving salaries to do their job
and that job includes policing the UAAP
from spurious officiating and gambling and bogus athlete-students
.
. heard this from the leaders: we dont have the capacity nor the resources
.
. dont tell me that educational institutions, great ones (yes, that includes VL Salle)
. who have MBAs, PhDs in their midst
who even confer such awards
cannot come up with a plan to effect genuine reform and change?
. with UAAP basketball being a veritable cash cow?
.
. maybe Ive been watching too much CSI or NCIS but arent there polygraph tests, surveillance measures, undercover operations etc etc that can ferret out the truth?
. if indeed there is a determined will
..
.. as I said, our UAAP leaders are tasked with maintaining, supervising, managing, CONTROLLING the UAAP
they should do their jobs!
. here we are, ranting and raving, issuing lists
. a refection of Phil society - the poor citizens are left to compensate for the failures of their leaders
.

Blue_Blazer_10, thank you very much for posting this. If you dont mind, i
re-posted this over at gameface, where the other forumers are trying to peice together some sort of informal "study" on the relation between binondo's point spreads, referees and the calls they make in the last few minutes. the data you presented will be a big help.
Thanks!

Don't mention it, BigBlue. Actually when I first registered to this forum, this was one of the last topics I had in mind to post as a my very first sharing exactly the same sentiments busyon1 has...as in"this is not my job"..."someone else should be doing this"...blah, blah, blah...but as a long-time follower of college basketball especially the UAAP since Ateneo is my alma mater, I just figured na this is my small contribution in making sure that in the very near future, all UAAP followers get their time and money's worth of high-quality hardcore college basketball minus the stigma of suspicious officiating and game-fixing.

guys,
..... more power to you ... people-power!
.... just some tips: referees do not fix the game only in the last few minutes ... watch out for early fouls in the first half specially to key players ... last season, it was Nownow Bacla who received phantom calls early ... putting key players in the bench ensures a close game ... a close game in the 4th quarter enables the referees the opportunity to determine the outcome/spreads ...
.... of the three referees, there is usually one who would be making the spurious calls/non-calls against one team .... look out for "make-up" calls .... referees would initially make calls against one team only to balance these out later on so that the stats will not appear so glaring ...
.... crucial games of popular teams entice the most betting .... as much as possible, Binondo wants the spreads close .... because if the score is tied in regular time, nobody wins ... Binondo takes everythng ..
... lastly, cellphones! ... bets, spreads, fixes are communicated thru cellphones ... that's why players (UE - Bonbon Custodio) are monitored vis-a-vis their cellphone usage immediately before a game ...
... we will encounter a lot of suspicions but in the final analysis, authorities have to act ... perhaps enough people power will pressure those responsible to finally act and clean up three things in the UAAP (1) bogus students i.e. athlete-students (2) officiating (3) gambling ....

If there's corruption in UAAP basketball, I'm 1,000,000% sure Lasallians are behind it. Just look at the UAAP results in the past few years, the "corrupt win at all costs" culture of DLRT (eg suspended), DLRT's track record for stretching the rules, etc.
Bottom line -- If it stinks, there must be a Lasallian close by.

Hey there Mr. BerdengEbak...
I have seen your posts "here and there" and have noticed that in each of them, you have the deepest contempt and utmost scorn for everything and ALL that is La Salle...

First of all, Yes I am a newbie here in your forums...but not a newbie in LIFE...
Yes I am a vl sallite or from DLRT, whichever way you want to say or write it...
However, let me also say that I do have very close and very personal ties with Ateneo, which I honestly consider as having had A BIGGER impact in my life than my education. This is not to say however that I do not value my La Sallian education.
And yes, I did take...AND PASS the UPCAT and ACET. Just in case anyone would like to ridicule me as having chosen the green side only because I failed one or both tests.
I assure you also that I am not here to pick fights or even say that La Salle is better...I am but a humble reader of the comments posted here and hope that despite my educational background, I will not be kicked out or banned.
Having said all these, I am fully aware of La Salle's "dark side"--the actions OF CERTAIN LA SALLIAN INDIVIDUALS that are not becoming of true La Sallians, and I, despite being La Sallian, will not dispute those facts nor even try to defend these individuals and their actions. I will also not act like other La Sallians and start citing various achievements made by some members of the La Sallian Community just to drive the point that La Salle is not as bad as others think.
My humble question "WHY?" is a product of a certain disappointment and a hint of pain I feel whenever I am branded as such by individuals like BerdengEbak. When you brand an entire community as being something, you also risk branding members of that community as such even when in fact they are not...What I do not appreciate is the need to stoop low and belittle an entire community based on actions that are not representative of that community itself.
Peace to you all from a La Sallian with a Jesuit Spirituality...AMDG

sir "ryuichi"
.... I guess I am as rabid a fan as any Atenista can be .... and in several threads apropos to this current season 71 (which is the only period I've logged unto this forum) I guess my negativity towards VL Salle basketball has found articulation .... refer to the threads "Season 71" "Mac Baracael" "Final Four" .....
.... you ask why the negativity ....
.... I summarized, just for Season 71, the following:
.very first game of the season for Ateneo (actually fourth game of the season,) VL Salles Pumaren forgets his ID. Technical foul (free throws) which the Archers rue
. and they say that Pido Jarencio too didnt wear his ID
. Not content at leaving things alone, they file a letter of protest to the UAAP
which is rejected.
. during this game, the three referees are suspended
.
. VL Salle defeats FEU but referee Tabanag is banned for the rest of the season due to questionable calls that favor VL Salle
leaving statements that the game should be asterisked
.in the NCAA, St. Benilde (alter ego of VL Salle) protests Sam Ekwes uniform, in spite of losing by 20 plus points, and VL Sallite Quinito Henson himself says that this was in poor taste
well, Benilde wins the protest and claims the win in spite of official statements that they themselves will not accept the win even if granted
. riding on the momentum, their St. Atayde harps on pictures showing that Kirk Long too was not wearing the same uniform as the rest of the team
called for forfeiture even though it was UP that was involved
but the UAAP rules showed that such a protest had no basis
. UE protests its loss against FEU claiming technical issues, because UE was struggling
and the protest was denied but only after P100k flew out the window
but in the UE-VL Salle game, UE wins and enhances its position vis-ΰ-vis the final four
.. though it had nothing to gain, UE defeats FEU
. which grants VL Salle a golden opportunity to land solo second (but sadly for them, VL Salle loses to Ateneo and shoves them to a best-of three match)
. but wait
Coach Franz Pumaren abandons his Youth team in Tehran inspite of an on-going tournament
. because that team was already eliminated
and argues that he just wanted to give an assistant coach time to be with a dying father
only this assistant coach also appears on the bench
. for which fellow VL Sallite Qunito Henson castigates Pumaren
but Atenean Bill Velasco goes to his defense
and is a sign that the world is coming to an end?
.. in the FEU-VL Salle game, still another referee is suspended
.
St. Atayde is defrocked because of pictures showing him flashing not one but two dirty fingers right beside Nene Araneta
.
. maybe fingers have become a fetish in Taft because LA Revilla is pictured shooting Mac Baracael in obvious reference to Baracaels failed assassination early in the season
so jokers ask
why isnt Revilla being arrested by the NBI?
.
. this is list of VL Salle controversies ... just for this season .... and I betcha, with the finals around the corner, there will be other shenanigans in the works
. because these bunch of characters are really prone to shooting themselves in the foot
.
And there is of course the classic: PEP (Benitez/Gatchalian.) As I said, refer to the other threads mentioned above.
For me, it is not accurate to characterize these as "dumping" on the whole Green Community. I have written in the past, several times, that I think that VL Salle is a good school, a great school, a worthy benchmark in academics and even in nation-building. But your basketball system sucks. Somehow, you have allowed your principles, standards and values to be warped by certain unaccountable individuals through these years, justifying it by "winning at all costs." Unfortunately, basketball is high profile and therefore commands the most attention from Ateneo, from the rest of the country. It may be unfair to paint the whole of your community with the same hue as your basketball program. But perhaps, that's where the challenge is for you right-minded guys on the opposite side of the fence.

JMC asked: "Hi busyon1 -- I'm just curious. What batch were you in AHS?
If you don't mind, that's a secret. Even my wife does not know my true age.
Seriously, in a public forum, that's immaterial .... one's identity is defined by what he writes. We form judgements and opinions about each other based on the clarity of our thoughts and the logic of our reasoning. Because of this, we should try to take a reasoned approach, ensuring that our conclusions are based on facts and correct premises. Ateneo taught us critical thinking.
Knowing personal circumstances often creates pre-judgement .... and it becomes very tempting to resort to ad hominems and personal attacks which is not educational nor enligtening whatsoever. As illustration, refer to other fora .... which is a waste of time.
Suffice it to say that I spent 17 years of my life being mis-educated at the Ateneo, from prep all the way to first year MBA. I didn't finish my MBA though ... work got in the way because my family developed bad habits ... they got used to eating three times a day.
But hey, I've been creating a sort of personal diary of season 71. Maybe years from now, I can still log on these threads and reminisce with great fondness this year of history still unfolding before us.
Deo gratias ...

Thanks for your reply good sir...
As I have said in my previous post, I am fully aware of La Salle's dark side, and as such, all of what you have written above. Again, I do not dispute any these facts and understand where the negativity comes from.
However, in your comments above, you have also said clearly that you "have written in the past, several times" that you "think that VL Salle is a good school, a great school, a worthy benchmark in academics and even in nation-building". Albeit the VL Salle spelling, my thanks to you for this, and your ability to distinguish between the true members of the green community and the true quality of their education from the "certain unaccountable individuals" in the basketball program.
Sadly, not many can make this distinction given the high profile of basketball in our country, hence the tinge of pain I feel, whenever I read comments like that of BerdengEbak's harping on how low the standard of the La Sallian education is. This is tantamount to saying that MY education is of low quality and that I--to use a common pejorative against La Sallians--am BOBO.
To conclude, the negativity is understandable given everything that has happened in our basketball program, but I implore everyone here not to look at this as representative of the quality of a true La Sallian education nor the kind of individuals the university produces.
With all respect to Ateneans and ALL Filipinos...AMDG

As "Dieselbirdie" said, it's a game. For the most part, things said and done at Araneta Coliseum is an escape from reality ... from ex-St. Atayde flashing double dirty fingers ... to that blue lady clutching a rosary in one picture and then flashing a single dirty finger in the next photo .... So there is an element of "chill out, it's only basketball" that all of us have to place at the back of our minds in these comments. As my theology professor said when we were studying scripture, its "context, context, context."
But as to your comment above, yes I commiserate with you. You are being negatively affected by the pratfalls of the basketball program. Unfair, unjust, untrue, false generalization ... yes. But you guys realize the reason for this.
In that famous press conference at the Hyatt, supposedly stage-managed by VL Salle, your alumnus Servillana dela Cruz, said and I paraphrase: "You (administration) have debased the diplomas of all La Sallites .... by your winning at all costs ... by your soft courses and athlete-students .... by your PEP anomalies ..."
By your writing and your manners, you are by no means bobo. Sadly, sir, you are reaping the whirlwind of VL Salle basketball.
