can you guys enlighten me with your "august and highly orthodox opinion[s]"? what the hell is grimace?
I have heard of two theories.
Absurd Theory #1.
Grimace is an inverted grape-flavored sundae, but not a mascot for sundaes, since never in the history of McDonalds have they ever served grape-flavored sundaes. Ever.

Grimace was originally a six-legged purple spider, but children were scared of spiders, so they cut off two of his appendages.

Grimace is some capitalist-designed persona created to inspire one thing: curiosity. Curiosity that leads to discussions on what this unusual, purple, odd-shaped character is (milkshake, tastebud, extra rice, etc.). This leads to the desire to see more of Grimace, and therefore, to want to acquire him more, leading to more revenues for McDonald's.
Furthermore, Grimace was made visually unusual-looking, and yet strangely pleasant, such that children (a large part of the market) would find some sort of resonance with the cuddly stuffed toys that a child is wont to possess.
From a slightly crazier point of view, Grimace is named such and looks such because he is designed to send some sort of subliminal message to us customers.

McDonald's have aired several commercial ads in the US late in the 80s with Grimace on it. In the ad, Grimace usually makes a lot of trouble and Ronald straighten out things for him[/her?].

MY OWN THEORY is that naka-inom ng "taro-milk-tea w/ taro-pudding" sa quickly yung may-ari ng mcdo. gustu nyang gayahin pero naka trademark sa quickly... nag-improvise na lng sya.....
mas-mabuti pang tanungin nyo lhat ng nagtatrabaho sa mcdo duun sa katipunan.... and since katabi lng ng skul nila yung mcdo, tanungin nyo na rin yung mga kilala nyo sa kostka skul.....

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!! It DOES make sense! I mean, why name a fast food place's mascot grimace? but then again, why is he a purple blob? its not like what comes out is a purple blob.

O di ba... napak agandang ehemplo sa mga kabataan??? Pero ang pinakamagandang mga teorya ay galing (kanino pa?) kundi sa mga Pilipino:
unang teorya: Si Grimace ay isang ube mascot. Ung McDo marahil ay may ice cream o shakes na ube ang flavor.
pangalawa: Si Grimace ay bastardong anak ni Tinky Winky ng Teletubbies (na natsitsismis na bakla) at isang eggplant.
pangatlo: Siya ay violet na krayola na iniwan ng mga bata (sa playground ng McDo) sa araw para matunaw.
