Did I ever tell you guys how much I love this place?!

I spent the other night looking at katipunan avenue. Floods of memories came rushing as I walked towards Mcdonalds. Then my mind grinded into a halt when I saw the service road island being torn down by the mmda. I felt so sad and mad. Those trees witnessed every little thing that has happened to me eversince I lived here more than a decade ago.

This is my home. I swam against the current just so I could be back here in the cozy arms of Katipunan. I love everyhting about this place... the establishments, the people, and most especially the suburban-like appearance of it.

This is a residential and educational zone goddammit!

Bayani Fernando I like the way you discipline people but this time.. YOU SUCK! Don't take our trees away from us they were already there even before we were born.

Any protestors?

sakto. i live in valenzuela but i spend more waking hours in katipunan. it's my home. i've been studying in katipunan schools since i was in kindergarten... my grade school/high school's soooo into the environment that they got us planting trees in katipunan islands... siguro yung ibang mga puno dun, ako or yung mga kakilala ko yung nagtanim (kung hindi namatay yung mga punong yon at pinalitan lang ng iba... ehe). they say that this is the price of progress... but is cutting down the trees really worth it? ika nga sa kanta... "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot". (hindi nga siguro mashadong "paradise" ang mga ito, at hindi naman "parking lot" ang gagawin, pero parang ganun na din yun. hehe)
yun lang. tongue.gif

You swam against the current to get here huh? I did too and now I kinda regret it. How things have turned around...

hi sophist and mr baseball! welcome back to katipunan... ako rin, kakabalik lang smile.gif

as an environmental science major, i can list here a good number of reasons why the trees should not be cut... but the fatc is the traffic in katipunan is not caused by the islands but by the lack of discipline and the flooding is not caused by the trees...

sana ppl who dont support mmda in this matter, speak out...

We NEED MORE TREES, NOT faster lanes....

STOP CUTTING DOWN THE TREES!!!

Well, welcome back! I hope you're thrilled to return. I'm not. I wanna go back to San Francisco na.

im PARTLY agreeing with BF, as long as he keeps his promise of putting the trees in a park.

on the other hand, he does not need to cut down the trees or remove the island, people like me who practically lived in Katipunan, dont mind if the islands are there.. i mean, for me, they do not cause traffic! wink.gif

So sad. Sayang talaga yung mga puno...

Removing the island will only be a short-term solution. The traffic will never go away. NEVER. And it's not getting any better either. Taking away an island with decades-aged trees is just not the way to go in this situation. And it's not just about the trees; it's about heritage. In case there are people who don't know, those trees are the last of what used to be from the "Old Katipunan." Remember the big ol' trees and how cold it gets early in the morning?

Wow, you're in ES? I was supposed to shift into ES but the thing is, Math isn't exactly one of my fortes and ES is pretty heavy on math.

i agree with you. Actually, MUCH of the traffic in the Philippines, particularly Metro Manila is due to the lack of discpline of drivers. Yes, maybe the growing number of cars is also a problem but if you think about it, kaya naman eh, kung marunong lang talaga ang mga tao.

BTW, who in the world said that the trees are the cause of the flooding? Hello? Isn't more like badly designed drainage systems and poor garbage disposal...

We should keep our trees.... for one thing, katipunan isn't katipunan without them. Another thing, the last thing this world needs are more trees cut down for "economic progress.."

tama ba yon?

timang pala cya eh! katipunan is made by the people, the builtings the ateneo, even miriam, but most especialy the trees! remove any of this and the katipunan we all know will vanish.

Katipunan has played a big part in my life. From my kindergarten days in Pediamorphosis to my highschool days in Kostka. I had a lot of fond memories in Katipunan.

i think it wouldn't be the same if something will be taken away from Katipunan. I know BF means well but there's must be some ways to go about it, right?

yup, im an ES major, demanding talaga ang course pero fulfilling naman.. dont worry, kahit ano naman course mo pwede ka pa rin mag-work na related to the environment...

about the trees: the katipunan group has managed to get a temporary restraining order to delay the cutting of trees and removal of islands along katipunan... i think that some admu groups are preparing a signature campaign to support the tro smile.gif ill try to post here the details of the impending case and the signature campaign as soon as possible.

Hindi lang sa Katipunan ginawa yan ni Bayani. Sa Marikina pa lang eh... During his LOOONG stay as Mayor of that place, mahilig na syang magputol ng puno.

Bayani Fernando = Tree-Hater

Sorry, Bitter talaga ako sa kanya
