Full Version: Are Yearbook CD-ROMs necessary?
Welcome to Atenista.Net! > Alumni > Aegis

Can anyone tell me why Ateneo Aegis has adopted this practice of adding a CD-ROM to the printed yearbook? Is it really necessary?

There have been four Aegis CD-ROMs to date: 2001 was released on time, 2000 was a year late, 1999 was two years late, and 1998 is nowhere in sight. Based on this batting average, it doesn't seem worth the additional expense and frustration -- as if producing the printed yearbook isn't difficult enough to begin with.

What's in a yearbook CD-ROM anyway? Does it hold any additional value? Or is Ateneo Aegis just playing catch up to other schools who started this extravagant practice?

In my opinion, if you really want to add value to a yearbook, you should go for a flexible medium. Having a yearbook in both printed and CD form is redundant -- both are fixed and unchangeable. A website, on the other hand, can be updated with the latest directory information, email addresses, new photos, and will serve to keep a batch/class together through the coming years.

The Aegis Edboard should really consider abolishing yearbook CD-ROMs in the future.

i don't know who came up with the idea of releasing a CD-ROM to accompany the yearbook, but i'm not complaining. have you SEEN our aegis CD-ROM (batch 2001)? it's pretty damn awesome! kudos to all the people behind the CD-ROM for a terrific job. i especially enjoyed the videos. funny how something so high-tech can be so nostalgic.

aside from being so cool, i don't think the CD-ROM is redundant because the contents are totally different from that of the yearbook. the CD contains our profiles, senior's pages, and our directory, while the yearbook features our write-ups. unneccesary expense? maybe it is a tad extravagant, but hey, as far as i'm concerned i got my money's worth.

i wouldn't call it extravagant. after all, my college experience in ateneo is PRICELESS. what i like about the cdrom is it's interactive. it really brings back the memories because it's almost real!!! the pictures (videos) are live and the contents are not necessarily the same as the yearbook itself, therefore not redundant. in the yearbook, writeups are printed, but in the cd-rom it's the profiles (the likes, dislikes, etc.)
another plus is the VR (virtual reality room)

yep. I agree, memories could not be equated with costs/money...

i too, believe that the CD-ROM is not at all redundant. I'm a fresh grad and I really love the CD-ROM which accompanied batch2001's yearbook.

It has the creative poses, directories, candid shots, and other extras. True, it does add to the already big hole in our pockets, but hey, i'd pay anything to keep all of my fondest memories of College Life in the Ateneo.

To the Aegis Editors this year. . . don't do away with the CD-ROM.

Peace. biggrin.gif

Hmmm...I don't think CD-ROMs are that bad. There are some things that seem redundant but CD ROMS are more interactive. The possibilities are endless.

Kung website naman, sinong magme-maintain nun? Pano kung nawala yung conenction mo? With a CD ROM, easy access! CD ROMs are cool.

Ironically, LA SALLE started the CD ROM. Sila pa nga yata ang first in the Philippines...and arguably the first in Southeast asia. tsk tsk naunahan tayo!

You guys should see their CD-ROM. GANDA! (although yung mga unang version medyo simple lang...the latest versions 2000, dunno if 2001 is available) are COOL!

Aegis guys could take a lesson or two from the lasallites.

Sorry, I beg to disagree. I've seen the Green & White CD-ROM and AEgis One (2001) is way cooler. G & W is harder to navigate and they don't have creative poses and profiles, but the grad pics and write-ups. Now that's redundant. rolleyes.gif And did you see their senior's pages? Limited to 4 photographs with tiny captions. No room for creative and artistic freedom.

To the AEgis One staff, great job, guys! Absolutely love the CD-ROM! smile.gif

YUP! Your right!

HAHAHAA Those Dumbo lasallites talaga!!!!

Still...it would have been best if we had beaten them to the idea...this way we can claim we were the FIRST and BEST. Nothing beats being the pioneer. Sayang. tsk tsk

Go Aegis!

Ang maganda sa CD-Roms, mas mura ang production cost *Dapat* kaysa sa printing in Color sa high-quality paper, takes up little space, can add videos/animation/interactivity/music

Ok siya basta maganda ang pagkagawa.

i'm not sure how much the earlier batches paid for their yearbooks but the cost of the CD-ROM was already included with the fee we (batch 99) paid for the entire aegis shebang.
i haven't seen the la salle CD-ROM but i heard that it basically contained the same thing as the printed yearbook. the aegis CD-ROM definitely does not have the same contents as the printed yearbook. i suppose ours is a little rudimentary compared to the succeeding ones but i'm glad to have it. the video clips of graduation were really nice smile.gif at present, only harry potter has books with moving pictures biggrin.gif

no! hassle and dagdag gastos (yearbook plus cd yearbook!??! is there a big big difference in terms of content?!?!?!) and madaling masira ! with that said, im done here!

The thing with the CD-ROM version of the Aegis is that it has an expiry date. Our batch's CD-ROM runs on Win 95/98. When I plug it in on a PC that runs on 2000 and XP, I couldn't access some of the files anymore. Geez. I have to keep at least an old PC for it. laugh.gif

Yikes! blink.gif Which batch's CD-ROM is that?

Does that mean, eventually all these CD-ROMs won't work in the future?
wackeekaren
Hm. I wonder what our batch's CD ROM contents would be. Senior's Page for sure (they made us give them a soft copy and a hard copy of it). Besides that... hmmm... ewan ko. Team Aegis 2006, care to shed some light here? smile.gif

Sana makuha agad yung yearbook.
