Thanks. I also saw your roster of Ateneans and I do know several personally or know of them. Some where neighbors of mine in PhilAm like Lito Bauza, Bobby Fabros and brothers or sisters of classmates like Fullon and Olaguera.
Unfortunately, that has not been my experience here in Chicago. Through a friend of a friend, you get invited to a get together and then handed a book of tickets to sell. Me pagka strong arm tactics pa because you are expected to actually sell all tickets.
I guess Chicago is different from NY. People in Chicago live and work far apart from each other. No one particular industry. NY and the Tri-borough region is different because majority of the Ateneans work in the financial district. On two occassions in the past, I attended a gathering of Pinoys in Manhattan and they crowd were mostly from Ateneo, UP and LaSalle. A number of them were like you, current MBA students or those who just completed there MBA and working for various financial institutions. There was even a bar that most of them went to on Friday afternoons in Manhattan for happy hour.
I once hosted a party in my Chicago apartment for MBA and grad students at Kellog and UofC. My sister and I happen to be classmates to a number of them back then. Enjoy naman. My friends from UP and LaSalle who were taking their MBA at Loyola felt small when we traded horror stories about school with the others. Nakakaliit.
Any luck in your job hunting? You are on your last semester at Columbia, di ba. Good luck na lang, the economy is in doldrums that consulting firms and financial institutions are cutting back.
Actually we will probably be doing a little bit of fundraising down the road but as of now our main focus is on fellowship and networking. And if ever we decide to go fundraising, it won't have much to do w/ selling. So far this year, we've had 2 young alumni get-togethers: one in a midtown Manhattan bar and a picnic in Central Park. Both were well-attended. Then we also had 2 events for all batches and ages: the alumni reunion in 5th Ave. graced by Jun Dalandan and the alumni mass celebrated by Fr. Manoling (see pictures in our thread -
Blue Eagles in the Big AppleYou are right. There are some alumni who would like to focus more on fundraising. These are normally the older people. But we in the younger group (the largest group so far) would rather socialize, network, and promote fellowship and since we are the ones w/ the energy to organize the events, we always have it our way - no direct fundraising
Yes, I will need all the luck in looking for work given our situation in the business cycle but then again, if I'm idle, it means I'll have more time for alumni work.
