New York - no city like it. it's so alive and electric. its got a great cultural thing going aside from the sports scene.

Hong Kong - perhaps the best example of the melding of western and eastern cultures. its clean, just as alive as new york and the chinese are great dressers! lived there for a time and just loved the place. now if these chinese could only speak better english (ironic since it was a british colony).

so what's yours?

San Francisco - Nice cool weather, great sights (Golden Gate Bridge). A very romantic city. (Imagine me walking around San Francisco with a SMART, SIMPLY AMAZING Atenean chinita. We stroll around Golden Gate, take a ferry to Alcatraz, have lunch at the restaurants around Pier 39 and cap off the night with Barry Bonds in a San Francisco Giants game... Haaayyy... Heaven talaga...) smile.gif

In April 2004, I'll be there na. smile.gif I left my heart in San Francisco... biggrin.gif

I also wanted to live in Cleveland before but they dismantled the great Indians teams of the mid-to-late 90s so parang ayoko na. sad.gif

Sydney also looks good. Malayo ka sa gulo (world events, terrorism, etc). tongue.gif

sa Pinas -- Davao siyempre tulad ni Ria Jose, outside, my first choice would be Sydney, Australia, its a wonderful city, if hindi ko lang mahal ang davao hindi na ko aalis doon, it has a lot to offer, it has a good beach, good bus system/monorail, very easy to go around, at may magagandang park. my next one would be Kobe, Japan--this one has a little of everything, seaside, may cable car, may train, may amusement park.

when i was in new york, believe it or not, i would look up at the skyscrapers not just to see how tall they were but to actually check if spider-man or daredevil would swing by.

when i go back there soon, i'll check out the places where the supposed scenes of Gangs of New York were supposed to have taken place.

i remember reading about about jessica zafra's trip to the museum in NY where she exclaimed "Fish .. boring. dinosaurs, now!!!" at the exhibits there.

when i go there, that'll be the name of my band, FISH BORING DINOSAURS NOW. bwa ha ha

New York -- Broadway, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Greenwich Village, Madison Square Garden, Yankees Stadium, Rockefeller Center, The Yankees, the Islanders, the Knicks, the Giants, and maybe i'll catch the Dave Mattews Band again!

here's a funny yet true story about my first trip to Hong Kong way back in '83.

my cousins and i went to Hong Kong Island via subway. after several hours of sight seeing, we decided to go back to our hotel in Kowloon. i took the ferry while my bro and one of my cousins stayed a bit and would take the cab back.

we were supposed to go somewhere that night and they had to be back at the hotel by 7. 7:20 passed and they still weren't there. a few minutes later a cab pulled up at the hotel where my bro and coz angrily got down, they tossed the driver some money and as the car lurched out into the road, my cousin let loose choice words in tagalog loud enough for all to hear. the cab pulled back and the driver angrily pulled down his window and said in an unmistakable australian accent, "hey, i spent six years in subic bay, "P&&&ina mo rin!!!"

man, the look on everyone's faceless was just priceless!!!!

How much do I miss San Francisco? Everyday, when I have some quiet time, I look at my Mabuhay magazine from Philippine Airlines and always turn to the world map page and look at San Francisco. Then I reminisce and recall the good times I had there, away from all the crap here.

I miss San Francisco... sad.gif

while i love New York and Hong Kong, after I'm done with the hustle and bustle in those world-class cities, i'd like to retire in the beautiful island of Santorini in Greece. My folks went on vacation there last summer and from the video they took of their stay there, I just fell in love with the place. Imagine entire villages and houses built and/or carved out of the mountainside and its got a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea.

ah maybe when i'm rich enough to afford that ...

New York, center of everything. Or Glendale City in California, almost like being back home with the Pinoy community there.

Its just ironic that my friends now in the States would give up anything just to spend a week here again...

Jedi Callista
wow suwerte mo naman !

I've never been to New York but after countless episodes of Felicity and Sex and The City tlgang parang ang sarap tumira dun. I guess New York will make my list, as well as:
Las Vegas (the city that never sleeps, pati lahat ng bawal eh hindi bawal..) biggrin.gif
downtown Chicago - the history, the skyline, sports events, nightlife, world class museums, the people...everything is just right there!
Bleachers King
Hey Jedi Callista,
for all of New York's magnificence, it can also swallow you up. its multi-ethnic lines can be also intimidating. just mind your self and you'll be allright. don't even look others in the eye.
like any first-time visitor, there are predators who would mercillesly bleed you dry of your possessions and money.
but that's the bad stuff. NY, under Rudy Guilani, is much cleaner and safer than it was. especially now, after Sept. 11. it's got a great culture with all the embassies located there, cultural centers, museums, arenas etc. the music scene is second to none. and man, it's just terrific.
but it's pretty darn expensive there. but come to think of it, don't convert the dollars into pesos then it sounds okay-- a bit. but we just can't help converting di ba?
check this out...
a honest-to-goodness NY hotdog with all the trimmings costs $3 (ouch!). di ba sa Jollibee, a Jolly hotdog costs what, in excess of P20?
a box of chocnut costs a dollar (eh dito mga P20).
compact discs average $15-20 then dito it's around P475.
then check this out for utter ridiculousness...
in Paris naman, a McDo value meal equals some Php300! ha ha ha
mura pa rin talaga sa Pinas.

it's very intimidating and nothings gonna be handed to me on a silver spoon. i'm gonna bust my ass like i never have. if things don't work out, then i'm coming back.

biggrin.gif

i lived in the states for a while, and if i had to go back to live permanently, it'll probably be somewhere in the north east. or some nice quiet town in virginia/north carolina.

sorry bk, but the big apple never appealed to me. it's a great place to visit - so much to do, so much to see - but i don't see myself moving there. nakakaloka dun e! but good luck though, hope things go well if and when you move there. (don't forget, get-together before you leave ha! smile.gif)

sa philippines, i would love to visit (and maybe move to..?) batanes. it seems like such a beautiful place (i hear it's the closest thing we have to scotland), typhoons notwithstanding. smile.gif

missD, we are getting together after the DLSU game, right?

and yes, New York is somewhat chaotic and frenetic.

as for quiet places yet modern, minneapolis is nice and clean. it's got the Vikings and the Timberwolves too. Not to mention the Great Mall.

biggrin.gif
miss d
yup, that's exactly what i mean about new york. smile.gif

never been to minneapolis. isn't it horrendously cold there? biggrin.gif
