Bleachers King
With the adaptation of Lord of the Rings, Daredevil, Spider-Man etc. into movies what other literary treasures or famous events do you wish to see in movie adapatation? And if you were the producer, talent caster, director, who would you cast in the lead roles?

For moi:
the Books of Magic
the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

for Tv series ala Band of Brothers:
American Gods

stayed tuned for my cast
biggrin.gif
Dearth
I'd like a LOTR-quality adaptation of Dragonlance. (And not that Dungeons & Dragons flop, please)

Come on, admit it, who here doesn't want to see Raistlin in action? biggrin.gif

I'd like to see a translation on screen of "The Watchmen" comic by Alan Moore. that would be Awesome!

amen.

oks din sana kung yung "the dark tower" series ni stephen king.
Bleachers King
Lone Wolf and Cub
have it directed by John Woo
have Chow Yun Fat star in it
have it written by Frank Miller
biggrin.gif
Alter Ego
Anne Rice's book... "Memnoch The Devil"

I wish though that they use Cruise and Pitt as Lestat and Louis... I didn't like what they did to the "Queen of the Damned". Anne Rice wrote her books with a sense of eroticism and sensuality... The movie version of "Qot Damned" lacked those....

Also, I'd like to see a movie adaptation of the game Final Fantasy 3/6j!!! I wanna see Locke, Celes and Terra!!! Maybe Kristin Kreuk as Terra?? hehehe.

Another one I'd like to see... a movie adaptation of the David Eddings books... be it Belgariad or Malloreon or Elenium!!

Incubus definitely!
Bleachers King
The Books of Magic (Was JK Rowling isnpired by this book? notice how Harry Potter and Tim Hunter look alike?)

Harry Potter's Danie Radcliffe would make an excellent Timothy Hunter.
John Constantine - Michael Bienh
Dr. Occult - Anthony Perkins
The Phantom Stranger - Leonard Nimoy
Mr. E - Anthony Hopkins

soundtrack Basil Pouledouris

will that work?

Vulgslayer
1. The saga of Drizzt Do'Urden and the Companions of the Hall.
2. McKiernan's Mithgar Series (in eight movies installments)
3. There has been a The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe adaptation, it was TERRIBLE. Somebody has to do better capturing the magic on film.
4. The massacre at Mendiola.
Bleachers King
vulgslayer,
was the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe adaptation you saw the animated version?
i remember seeing it though.

and according to the latest Time Magazine, there are plans for a Chronicles of Narnia movie series? wow. i hope they pull this off, but if they were able to do so with Lord of the Rings, then why not?

watchmen, i'd like to see, but i'm not quite sure how good a movie treatment they can do of Alan Moore's famous story. it's too complicated.

what about Brian Holguin's and Jay Anacleto's Aria? didn't they base the designs for Lady Kildare on Jennifer Lopez? She's be perfect for that role.

anyone who reads Aria or Fables? For Gaiman fans, if you liked American Gods, try out Vertigo Comics' Fables.

Anybody here ever read or heard about a short story called "The Star" by Arthur C Clark? THAT would make a fantastic movie. I'd cast Sam Neil in the lead role and have it directed by Ridley Scott.

Mary Shelley's "The Mortal Immortal" would also make a great movie. I'd get either Johnny Depp or Edward Norton (maybe even Russel Crowe) to play the lead role, with direction by Anthony Minghela or M Night Shyamalam.
Dime333x
I almost forgot... someone has to make a big screen version of the Fantastic Four!! That would be so cool!!
Bleachers King
Dime333x,
you're right! Fantastic Four would be visually appealing on the big screen. in fact, their first foe should be none other than Doctor Doom.
cool.
you a comics fans, dude?

has anyone here read orson scott card's enchantment? that was a very good book. it's a fairy tale but not quite. it actually explore what happen after the suppossed happily ever after. it's a good read. it oughta be a good movie too.

Yupyup, I'm a comics fan. smile.gif i kinda was "out of the loop" for a couple of years , but when I heard spiderman was coming to the big screen I got stuck back into it. I'm trying to fatten up my comic collection again.

I think there have been moves to turn Fantastic Four into a movie since around 1997 or 1998. It always ran into snags mainly because of casting, seems the big name Hollywood stars and their agents couldn't work out billing order. The FF movie project was an in-and-out thing since then. I think it's been greenlighted though, and wotta revoltin' development this is, Dreamworks seems to have the rights to it. Kids, can you say, "IT'S CLOBBERING TIME!"
Bleachers King
remember years ago when every Hollywood studio tried to snag rights over it seems every comic book character out there? they even did the tick, for crap's sake. batman started out well with michael keaton's intense portrayal of the caped crusader but it soon limped home badly. superman was only good for one real good movie but they destroyed it by turning lex luthor into a buffoon.

for me the best comic book-movies are The Crow (Brandon Lee was perfect for this role), Batman I & II, Spider-Man, and X-Men.

Hope they get Hulk and Daredevil right.

The problem about turning anime into real film is budget constraints and the inability to turn animation into righteous big screen adaptations. But if they could, wouldn't it be awesome to see Gundam, Battle Angel Alita, and Ninja Scroll on the big screen.

Rick Yune (of China Girl, the Fast and the Furious, and recently Die Another Day) would make a great Jobei for Ninja Scroll.

Jessica Alba or Lacey Chabert would make a cool Galli/Alita.

Yeah, the good ol' comic boom of the 80's, gotta love it. Remember the Punisher movie? that was pretty crap. I heard that there might be a new version in the works.

Batman 3 was pretty bad, and batman 4 was a travesty. I agree also with your choice of comic to movie adaptations.

Can't wait till the hulk comes out, I have pretty high hopes for it. The preview, although not very revealing of the Jade Giant looked really cool.

Ninja Scroll would be cool, but I'd prefer Rouroni Kenshin OAV vol 1 - 4, they're awesome. I just like the story better. =)

I've only seen it recently, but if someone could successfully pull off a live action version of Cowboy Bebop, that would be brilliant!

funny posts, dude. you guys rock. yup, it would be interesting to see the infinity gauntlet in movie form. but maybe animation treatment ala Final Fantasy would do it more justice.

if its cosmic epics you're interested in, why not E for Extinction/Imperial story in New X-Men. The story, action, and the edge grant morrison brings is magnificent to behold.

There have been some, like Philadelphia and Flawless, they were pretty good.

A gay superhero would be interesting though. According to my large stores of useless trivia, I think Northstar from Alpha Flight was the only gay superhero in the Marvel Comics universe. I forgot where I read it.
Bleachers King
northstar's revelation that he was gay was nothing more than a cheap stunt by marvel to show the public that they were into social issues as well. after alpha flight #106, hindi na play up ulit until some time and now in the pages of uncanny x-men (now a crap title, new x-men and ultimate x-men just blows, hmm, sexual remark unintentional, them away.

if you liked band of brothers, there's this book that i feel is ten times more powerful than stephen ambrose's best-selling novel. the said book is CHARLIE COMPANY: WHAT VIETNAM DID TO US. It was written by Peter Goldman and Tony Fuller. The success of this book along with Mark Baker's NAM helped bring oral histories and accounts into popularity.

Check out this book, It's no longer available locally. in fact, it was never released by National Bookstore, Goodwill or Bookmark. I got my copy at the Rastro. Remember that Greenhills' bookshop? They were a precursor to the specialty shops of today.

i wanna see a movie version of "Doctors" by Erich Seagal. Have no idea, though, who'd fit the role of Laura Castellano and Barney Livingston.
joescoundrel
Here's an idea! They did a modern retelling of Joan of Arc starring Mila Jovovich. How about Ignatius of Loyola's story starring Russle Crowe? Michael Mann might make a good director for this.

For that matter, how about the story of EDSA II? Pero dapat foreign outfit ang gumawa, although siyempre dapat local artists ang gumanap, or at least Pinoy-looking talents. Super wala akong tiwala sa kahit sinong local outfit for this kind of a project, masyadong mapulitika. Imagine the opening spiel (ehem-ehem)

"Not too long ago, in a country far away in the tropics, a trial had galvanized a nation. It was a trial that would define the new course of a struggling democracy in the developing world. The charges: plunder, fraud, other abuses while in public office, culpable violations of the Constitution. The Defense's case: nothing but circumstantial evidence, hearsay and the word of a known political warlord. The Prosecution's case: Various eyewitness testimonies and a controversial envelope. The Defendant: The President of the Republic of the Philippines."

The opening scene: The Senate, with the Senators sitting as the jury.

Mr Chief Justice Hilario Davide bangs his gavel and the "no" votes have it. The controversial envelope upon which the Prosecution's case depends remains unopened.

Next scene: The EDSA Shrine and the crowd building up. In its midst is veteran BBC Correspondent Jack Miller (Mel Gibson), reporting on the scene.

Ah basta, something like this... I'll see if I can think something up for Ignacio's story. Kayo, baka gusto niyong dugtungan? smile.gif

Tama, opening scene Hilario Davide, saying the no votes have it. But the next scene cannot be the crowd building up. That'll practically be the climax of the whole movie already. Kailangan flash back to what brought the whole thing. First 10 minutes Erap presidency, the political milieu, unprecendented win, ek ek. Then come the chinks in the armor, the scandals, the sequence of events that showed that things were not going well. Middle of the movie, out comes Chavit Singson. Everything is going to build up from there. The movie is mostly Senate house scenes already, with the witnesses vs. the defense lawyers as particularly tense scenes. The tension of course rises all the way to the No votes have it scene. After, we return back to normal time, from the flashback, then we have the whole texting phenomenon, people gathering bit. Movie ends in the next 12 minutes, with Erap boarding the barge.

Throughout the entire movie, the life of one less in the limelight person would have to be interspersed in the script. Maybe pwede the BBC correspondent mentioned earlier. Maybe he's reporting in the Philippines and he left something unfinished back in the UK.

I would like to have the Tuesdays with Morrie
adapted into a movie form. (ay, wait... I think there IS already one although I haven't seen it. The story was very touching
and it really is based on a true story.
One more thing- The Alchemist.
I'm not sure if this was already turned into
a movie. smile.gif

Id love to see the first novel of Parasite Eve (well... the game would also be good as an adaptation) as a film.

I'd love to see a movie telling the saga of the Mystra's Chosen: Elminster. So much fun.

Fun din siguro to see a counterstrike movie.

Hala! Now we've even got The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen coming out as a motion picture! Not to mention the LOTR Rerturn Of The King movie by the end of the year. See what thou hast wrought o King of yonder Bleachers! Anyway, isn't anybody getting just a wee bit weezy with all of these superheroes coming into their three-dimensional own on the silver screen. I don't know, but there are just some things better left to the imaginative power of the written word.
