Jerry Maguire. Hataw ang love story nung dalawang bida.
Good Will Hunting. Check out the scenes when Matt Damon demonstrates his prowess as a maladjusted genius.
Saving Private Ryan. It ain't just a war movie with an incredible D-Day opening scene.
What Women Want. Worth it if only for Mel Gibson's outta nowhere dance number.
Gladiator. A hero will rise. And rise indeed he did.
Face/Off. Nick Cage and John Travolta under the guiding hand of John Woo.
Crimson Tide. Moral dilemna. Legal dilemna. Military drama. Will make you think long and hard about the use of nuclear weapons.
Braveheart. Mel Gibson and almost three hours of history. Blood and gore in more than ample amounts.
Dogma. Matt and Ben. Jay and Silent Bob. Alanis Morissette as God.
Tin Cup. Golf movies aren't funny. Movies about golf shouldn't even be made. Kevin Costner remedies that situation.
The Matrix. The digital age meets mega paranoia. Hong Kong-style Kung-Fu comes to Hollywood.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Find out what Madonna saw in Guy Ritchie.
Some Kind of Wonderful. The definitive love story of the 80's.
Event Horizon. You haven't seen a real scary movie until you see this one.
Weekend At Bernie's. A dead body never provided so much fun and laughs.

Forgot three really worth watching, to wit:
Awakenings. This should've won Robin Williams his first Oscar, his first truly serious Academy-worthy role.
White Squall. Coming of age while on a cruise. Man versus Nature at one of its most pure renderings.
Rain Man. Autistic people get the "Top Gun" treatment.

Lots of good movies out there.
check out the ff:
Lord of The Rings: Fellowhip of The Ring
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure--- there's almost a mad genius behind this film.
Gone With The Wind --- almost four hours long, but worth it. And definitely NOT mentally taxing. Pure epic drama.
Pride and Prejudice -- this BBC production is the best adaptation of a Jane Austen novel. It's 5 hours long though. But definitely grows on you. And definitely addicting.
JFK -- don't watch it for historical facts, but for how well this movie's made. Oliver Stone's best, IMO.
The Matrix
The Animatrix -- I'm not a fan of anime, but the visuals in the short stories were stunning! Definitely worth checking out.
Aliens
Roman Holiday -- the movie that gave us Audrey Hepburn.

We ought to be grateful.
Bend It Like Beckham
Coming Soon pa lang but I hear it's a really good popcorn flick...
Pirates of The Caribbean

Jul 17 2003, 08:22 AM
"Much Ado About Nothing" - it's kinda hard to read the book, but very amusing on film
"Interview with the Vampire" - I never get sick of this one! Plus its a HUNK-FEST!
"The Crow" - too bad Brandon Lee's dead
"Serendipity" - for the romantic at heart
"Harry Potter" movies - for the KID at heart hehe

I loved the last episode of the Star Wars saga (Return of the Jedi) and Tomorrow Never Dies (the only good one among the recent 007 films), the last one being Moonraker.
The 1st Matrix was also good. The "There is no spoon" philosophy is much simpler and better illustrates the whole picture, than a roomful of Architects or Oracles ever will.

I'm having a hard time starting a new thread, so I figured I'd just post this here:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
METROPOLITAN THEATRE GUILD LAUNCH
Great theatre triumphs over the tedium of the workaday. Great theatre invites audiences to look beyond the stage and gaze into worlds they never knew existed. Great theatre returns a measure of grace, awe, and
wonderment into weary lives and a broken world.
The Metropolitan Theatre Guild Foundation is a brave new theatre company built by a team of ardent young Ateneo alumni with a passion for great art. They hope to set the stage on fire.
That may sound insane. It probably is. But The Metropolitan Theatre Guild would like to invite you to witness the revels ignite. See them. Hear them. Then decide.
At the very least, you're going to have a fabulous time. And who knows? In the end, you might dream with them. Dare with them.
Believe.
Party with The Met as it launches its premiere season in a grand party on Thursday, February 5, 2004, 8:00 p.m. at Dream@6750, 6750 Ayala Avenue, Makati City. Free admission. Open bar.
Please confirm attendance by Friday, January 30. Call (63.2)436.2778,
text (63.917)537.9192 or email info@themet.ph.
Visit The Met Online at www.themet.ph for more information.
well, there are some films out real soon:
Walking Tall (I want to see what they did in this remake, the TV series of long ago was real cool)
Dawn of the Dead (I'm sure that these zobie mvoie was inspired by the success of that excellent Brit-film 28 Days After) so it would interesting to see what they do with this. yes, I know that Resident Evil brought all these zombie movie stuff back but it didn't do too well to warrant a blood lust for movies of this sort).
Spider-Man 2. July 2 is still a long ways off but it looks real good.
Troy. We're living in the days of huge cinema epics, my friends. Movies about high fantasy and war epics. Thisshould be another hit.
Van Helsing. What's with this eternal fascination with vampires and vampire hunters? With Blade Trinity and Underworld 2 (in the works) around the corner, I can feel a bloodlust coming -- heck, I'm digging out the LostBoys.
can I veer away from the topic just a wee bit (it was St. Patrick's Day yesterday and I'm feeling a little Irish)? how about movies on DVD? it's not just a matter of watching the film but the bonus features that make a movie worth adding to a collection? and DVD box sets aren't exactly cheap ya know.
the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers (4 disc set) were real cool and fun to watch.
the Special Edition of Blackhawk Down is worth it (it's got the HBO documentary of the actual battle and some additional stuff).
X-Men 1.5 and X-Men United are okay.
the Bruce Almighty DVD is a riot with all those Jim Carrey outtakes.
Last night I was able to watch HYSTERICAL BLINDNESS on HBO. It's really good. Well at first you might think that the plot is too predictable especially when it involves two working girls looking for Mr. Right but in the end you'll get to see that friendship is more important than finding Mr. Right. Set in New Jersey, 1987, the film is a drama about three New Jersey women and their unrelenting quest for love and meaning in their lives as they discover that even simple dreams can be elusive. The movie stars Uma Thurman, Gena Rowlands and Juliette Lewis.
Of late a lot of comics/graphic novels are being turned into movies: LXG, Hell Boy, Spiderman, Van Helsing, Blade, the Hulk. There are of course the "serious" literary epics: LOTR, Troy (coming this week). I can't wait (if it gets produced) for Neil Gaiman's Sandman, or for the supposedly in the works next Batman movie (supposedly with Tim Burton back) and Fantastic Four (George Clooney as Mr. Fantastic daw).
Favorite movies of all time for me:
1) Jerry Maguire = The definitive "he's STILL Tom Cruise" movie
2) Top Gun = Cruise and Simpson/Bruckheimer hit Hollywood BIGTIME
3) The LOTR Trilogy; although it would've been perfect without deductions i.e. Tom Bombadil, the Scouring of the Shire
4) Rocky 1 and 2 = There really was a time when Sly could act and even write a screenplay (Academy Award winner at that)
5) Good Will Hunting = Matt and Ben do good and announce their arrival in Hollywood
6) Heat = What Face/Off could have been with real acting
7) Stripes = Wondering where Bill Murray got started? Lookie here.
8) Saving Private Ryan = Spielburg and Hanks, 'nuff said
9) The Longest Day = How Private Ryan wound up needing saving
10) The Seven Samurai = Great even without subtitles
11) Sabrina (the original) = Humphrey Bogart as romantic lead
12) Roman Holiday = The film that made Audrey Hepburn
13) Silence of the Lambs = Sir Anthony Hopkins plays demented and psychotic without having to work for Merchant and Ivory
14) Dead Man Walking and I Am Sam = The films that SHOULD HAVE won Sean Penn's Academy Award, not Mystic River
15) Unforgiven = Closure for the cowboy genre by the original spaghetti western hero
16) Finding Forrester = Just in case you think Sean Connery is only for action/adventure
17) Reversal of Fortune = For those who think of Jeremy Irons as the voice of Scar (Lion King) or the bad guy in the third Die Hard
18) The English Patient = Finally, a watchable Merchant Ivory film (tama nga ba?)
19) Awakenings = Bobby De Niro and Robin Williams should have shared the Best Actor Oscar for this one
20) Message In A Bottle = Cheesy tearjerker that proved Kevin Costner and Paul Newman can still act when they want to
21) Dirty Rotten Scoundrels = Understated comedy can be fun as proven by the unlikely pairing of Steve Martin and Michael Cain
22) With Honors = Joe Pesci goes to Harvard
23) Bridges of Madison County = Classic love story set in Middle America
24) The first Matrix = Renewed the action/adventure genre
25) The original Star Wars Trilogy = Made sci-fi popcorn popular
26) St Elmo's Fire, The Outsiders, The Big Chill = Hollywood's leading men and women cutting their teeth
27) Hoosiers, The Replacements = Gene Hackman brings credibility and proves he's the greatest movie coach of all time
28) Crimson Tide = A Cold War movie that had no Russians onscreen
29) Karate Kid 1 and 2 = Growing up a bullied teen in the 1980's is a pain in the ass if you don't know how to kick ass in return
30) Marked For Death, Out For Justice = Steven Seagal seemed sooo cool once
31) Scarface = A defining moment in the English language; the word "F---" was used in every imaginable way; noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, etc
32) Up Close and Personal = Aging stars Robert Redford and Michelle Pfeifer give it one last go
33) Pretty Woman = Julia Roberts makes the Hollywood "A" List
34) The Last Samurai = Really Ken Watanabe's movie
35) Equilibrium = What Matrix Revolutions should have tried to be
36) The two 007 movies made with Timothy Dalton = F--- everyone else who said Dalton wasn't a good Bond
37) Snatch = Great caper film and Brad Pitt does gypsy gaelic
38) Gardens of Stone = A Vietnam War film with barely a shot of Vietnam or the war
39) The Majestic = The Truman Show proved Jim Carrey could act well, this one proved that was no fluke
40) Batman, Batman Returns = Why the franchise should have folded when Tim Burton left
41) Donnie Brasco, Don Juan De Marco, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Pirates of the Caribbean, Blow = Johnny Depp proves the Academy really can be blind or stupid at the wrong times
42) The Man in the Iron Mask (the last version) = DiCaprio is overwhelmed by REAL actors i.e. Gerard Depardieu, Jeremy Irons, Gabriel Byrnes, John Malkovich and proves he CAN'T act to save his life
43) Gangs of New York = DiCaprio grows up and should still thank his ass that Jeremy Irons (again) was in this film
45) Schindler's List = Powerful narrative documentary of why Hitler was a shithead
46) Philadelphia = Tom Hanks, serious actor
47) Event Horizon = There are no other scary movies after this one
48) As Good As It Gets, Something's Gotta Give = Jack Nicholson's still got it
49) Braveheart = Mel Gibson arrives as a director (academy award)
50) Lawrence of Arabia = Peter O'Toole's definitive performance
Speaking of Troy, didn't Paris die in The Iliad while Helen returned to Menelaus, presumably to live happily ever after?
Too bad Wolfgang Peterson let this simpering wimp coward of a Paris live in his movie. I would've wanted to see Achilles, even in his dying moments with an arrow in his heel, skewer Paris with a quick throw of his sword. THAT would've been a great ending!
And while at it...
Who do you guys think would win in a three-way sword fight?
Brad Pitt's Achilles versus Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn versus Uma Thurman's Bride (Kill Bill).
While my sentimental favorite is Aragorn because he is a great king, I think Achilles would do to him and the Bride exactly what he did to Hector in the movie. Although Aragorn would have an edge because of the elven magic of his ancestor's sword, and being part elven himself. Then again, Achilles can't be injured except at his heel, a very difficult target even for an expert swordsman, more so while actually fighting another expert swordsman. The Bride will put up a good fight and has a lot of moxie, but will eventually die because of the superior physical strength and otherworldly powers of the two near-deities; Achilles will run her through with his sword after an exchange of maybe 10 strikes max. Achilles wins after a battle that taxes him more than double what Hector gave him after both he and Aragorn sustain three to four slashes from each other.
