Muslims demand an apology from the Pope
see story

Pope Benedict XVI was last night facing angry demands from Muslims that he apologise for his speech about Islam's practices.

Should the Pope apologise?

....and I thought this was going to be another pu$$y for a Pope. At least I see a glimmer of hope on this church that loves to apologize for everything. We've apologized for the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Jewish holocaust, etc....(and in a significant measure, rightfully so)...but apologize for this new non-issue? I hope he doesn't.
Again, we have to deal with the overly-sensitive feelings of these jammocks in nightshirts. This weak-a$$ pope was simply taken out of context. I guess the word context doesn't exist in most quarters of the Islamic faith (so does reason). The pope was just being a pope--condemning violence across the board. He was just being the usual pain in the a$$ like his late boss PJPII. For a person like me who believes in capital punishment, I was never offended by the cold blooded, outright, and consistent position of the church against death penalty. Did those red-necks from texas ever demanded for an apology from Pope John Paul II due to the latter's condemnation of the Texan Fry-em up justice system? Never.
Yet, the sad thing is, some high and mighty overly-intellectual-lovey-dovey Jesuit will probably take the side of Ali "kill-all-Christians" Baba and offer the other cheek.

To this Pope: never yield an inch to a nemesis that will never yield an inch!

Apologies should never be forced or demanded.. If the Pope later realizes some offending statements in his speech, it's up to him if he'll ask for sorry or excuse.. It's his free will and personal choice to ask forgiveness from Muslims.. It's not right to press him to make explanations or make him a subject of mortification so that he'll confess a wrong deed..
But if he stands firm in what he said and finds nothing wrong with what he had spoken of, then he has the right to remain unaffected.. smile.gif Anyway, the Catholic Church has declared the Pope as an infallible individual.. & Catholics must, the least, try to conform with the "affirmed and official truth"..

I strongly disagree your statement, sir.. mad.gif
FYI, the late Pope you're condemning is considered by many as the most influential pope/person of all times..
Maybe you're not touched and inspired by his works and vocation..
Or you never really cared at all..
It's sad that you were not able to appreciate a kind-hearted simple man's contribution to making this world a better place for humanity..
And mind you, what he has done is certainly unattainable by common people, it's just extraordinary- and perhaps that is why your mind can't reach the papal deeds' essence..
It's despairing to know that someone like you, a Filipino, Atenean and Catholic most of all, haven't recognized a saintly character in Pope John Paul II's person..
I assure you (if by this time you don't perceive yet), he motivated a lot of changes- development and progress for that matter, in our society..
It may not be obvious in a few worldly objects,
nevertheless, the goodness- in the forms of virtue, righteousness and morality, he shared
are instilled in the hearts of countless believers..
though there is still a lot who find it hard to acknowledge that fact,
especially those who criticize and disapprove evil,
but never struggle for the sake of goodness and charity..

I hate to give the impression you are one of them.. dry.gif

.. sorry if this is a bit off-topic.. i just can't disregard the issue.. tongue.gif

I'm sorry, but your humor was not in its right place.. If you mean to have a joke, you poked the wrong issue.. I'm really sorry, but it was practically an insult.. dry.gif

The Pope Apologises

The Pope's Apology to the Muslim World

Will this end the backlash? Certainly the attention garnered by the comments and various interpretations are causing adverse effects.

"The head of the world's 1.1 billion Roman Catholics stopped short of the full apology or retraction demanded by some Muslims for a speech they say portrayed Islam as tainted by violence."

Well, as I have said, it's his choice.. And he did.. At least our brothers in the Islam world are now contented, their frayed "dignity" was refurbished for them.. I wish it was not only in words that they aspire decency and respectability.. biggrin.gif .. Actions speak louder anyway.. smile.gif

i'll take his place! laugh.gif

i'll sell all the idle (untaxed) church properties around the world, siphon and re-route sunday church collections and then --build the world's biggest (maybe second biggest) army, navy and airforce. i'll walk over the entire middle east and rid that place of [ehm-ehem!]

good luck.. biggrin.gif
You won't stand what a lot of birdbrains and eggheads as well may say about your holy mission.. laugh.gif

if i were muslim, somebody apologizing to me for fear of violent reprisal would be a far bigger insult.

you can find cowards and primitives even in high places, yes?
bryanne
well, what do you expect?
Muslims SEEM to have scattered brain cells all over their bodies..
As I see it, sense is not in their vocabulary.. and they barely do things with human cause..
well, I hope it's just an impression..

Oh, here's a case of a hasty generalization.

Hasn't it ever occured to you that the form of media that transmits images of Muslims to you are inclined towards a certain bias? I don't have to spell it out, right?

Bryanne, I hope you are not on your way to becoming a Catholic apologist just like most of them are. Read up, get out of your CNN-laden soapbox, and talk to real Muslims.

Don't limit yourself to your church. Keep an open mind and enter a mosque. Or chat up some of them.

That's the problem when kids are sent to Catholic schools. They tend to be too defensive of the Catholic church and the infallible Hannibal of Vatican.

what confusion is this? huh.gif

i'm sorry ma'am but it seemed that you didn't get what I was trying to say in my previous post.. unsure.gif

the biggest muslim country is indoland and it doesn't fit the usual western concept of an islamic country. the second biggest is turkey (or is it pakistan?) regardless, turkey is also highly secularized.

What exactly did you mean in your previous post? I thought it was also a stupid generalization, and I am insulted because most of my co-workers are muslims, and most of them are some of the most decent people I have ever met.

Bryanne,

What are you trying to say anyway? Please enlighten me.

Muffetteer,

I share the same sentiments as you do.

I travel extensively for work. It is inevitable for me to encounter and/or work with people coming from different cultures. In my most recent project, I had to work with a Hindu cameraman and two Moslem production assistants. Very docile and charming people -- during late afternoons, they'd whisper to me "Excuse us, ma'am" and then they'd bow down to pray at five in the afternoon. A far cry from people with "scattered brain cells all over their bodies."
muffetteer
^green jokes even make them uncomfortable. There are some pretty damn intelligent people in my office. What's stupid is to think what you see/read/hear in media is representative of the whole. That's plain ignorance.

I apologize to the Muslim community for unintentionally causing offense in my post..
but I was just going after mac's post:
if i were muslim, somebody apologizing to me for fear of violent reprisal would be a far bigger insult.

I was pointing out that if the Pope had already apologized (as the Muslims wished),
"these" Mohammedans should not be distrustful about the Pope's motive for his actions
& therefore, should not feel insulted..

ubelievable. the world now knows him for the cowardly bastid that he is and he still spins his BS that he is all for good; that he can neither say nor do anything bad.
bryanne
and why the hell did "these" creatures ask/stipulate an apology from him?! dry.gif
