Greetings from the Ateneo de Davao !

Last December 30, 2005 before the Grand Alumni Homecoming celebration, the awarding ceremony for the Blue Knight was held at The Venue, Davao City. Awarded the 2005 Outstanding Alumnus was Mr. Carlos "Sonny" G. Dominguez III.

Mr. Dominguez is a product of Philippine Jesuit education. He graduated with honors from the Ateneo de Davao Grade School in 1957 and as salutatorian from the AdDU High School in 1961. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, major in Economics and his Master in Business Administration degree in 1965 and 1969, respectively, from the Ateneo de Manila.

Mr. Dominguez is chairman and/or President of the Philippine Tobacco Flue-Curing and Redrying Corporation, Baesa Redevelopment Corporation, C.G. Dominguez and Associates, Inc., Retail Specialists Inc. Huntly Corporation, The Linden Suites, Inc. and Halifax Capital Resources, Inc.

He is also the Chairman of RCBC Capital Corporation, Alip River Development and Export Corp., Intelligent Agro-Technical Resources, Inc. and member of the Board of Directors of the following: Alsons Consolidated Resources, Inc., United Paragon Mining Corp., Central Azucarera Don Pedro for the publicly-listed companies and Shangri-La Plaza Corp., Northern Mindanao Power Corporation for the privately-held companies.

Mr. Dominguez is a member of various civic and social organizations, among which are the Philippine Eagle Foundation, Foundation of Development Through Education, Philippine Business for Social Progress and the Philippine Dairy Foundation.

Mr. Dominguez was Chairman and President of Philippine Airlines from 1993 to 1995; President of BPI Agricultural Development Bank from 1984 to 1986; Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources; and later, Secretary of Agriculture from 1987 to 1989; Director of the Land Bank of the Philippines from 1987 to 1989; and Chairman of Republic Planters Bank from 1988 to 1992. He was EVP and Chief Operating Officer from 1976 to 1983 of JVA Management Corp, Davao Fruits Corp., Hijo Plantation, Inc and Twin Rivers Plantation, Inc.; Chairman from 1977 to 1983 of the Banana Growers Association; and EVP from 1973 to 1976 of AMS Farming Corporation and Soriano Fruits Corporation.

In 1973, Mr. Dominguez taught at the AdDU Graduate School of Business and became a member of the Board of Trustees of the University. For the next twenty-two years he continued to serve in the Board and became Chairman from 1982 to 1995.

In 1997, the Ateneo de Davao University conferred on Mr. Carlos G. Dominguez the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Humanities, honoris causa "in appreciation of his devoted concern for the Ateneo de Davao University manifested for so many years, in acknowledgment of his successes in his career as a professional manager, in recognition of his dedicated years of service in the public sector where his managerial talents were put to use towards the develeopment of the country; and finally, for his attachment to Mindanao and his efforts to create wealth for the region through the professional management of its resources."

For excellence in his chosen profession, his distinguished leadership ability, community involvement and service, the Ateneo de Davao University Alumni Association salutes the achievements of Mr. Carlos G. Dominguez through the Blue Knight award as 2005 Outstanding Alumnus.

Congratulations to Mr. Carlos Dominguez -- an Atenean through and through! Animo Ateneo!
