congratulations to the historic run of our baseball team! reading the recent posts about the team's success is such a joy. good luck on sunday vs nu, go for 3rd place!

as for the Utot-Sabay-Tae team and the tae dirty players mentioned, makakarma din yan. they're not any better than the PEP TEST boys. the truth is, you boys have a better future than these dirty players and hooligans. hanggang baseball lang alam ng mga yan. pag tapos na career niyan, maglilinis na lang ng tae yan sa mga toilet.

Gentlemen,

I know you all tried hard last sunday. it was a good game. They just played better I guess. But let us stop with this bad mouthing of the UST uniforms or the vile way #11 played. Just remember the prayer all ateneans recite before intrams:

"...If I should win, let it be by the code, with my faith and my honor held high; And if I should lose, let me stand by the side of the road, and cheer as the winner goes by..."

You did your best and I guess that is all that was asked.

I don't think I'd like to cheer for winners who play dirty baseball. Intentionally hurting other players should never be tolerated.

By the way, it was #30 who played dirty and not #11.

Let's go beat NU on Sunday and make a statement. It would also be a nice send-off for the graduating players. ONE BIG FIGHT!

I think the point of twodown isnt about tolerating what #30 did. its about sportsmanship. true sportsmanship does not depend on whether the other party played fair or not. yes it matters but it shouldn't stop you from being a true sport. Like I said in one of my posts, its a game. things like that happen. Should you choose to go down to their level......well it shows a lot about your character. None of us approve of what #30 of UST did or any other unsportsmanlike behavior. There's really no point in bashing him here in the forums. Let us all move on.

There's a 2nd runner up trophy waiting for us on sunday!!! laugh.gif

mr baseball,

twodown and mister ac are correct. there is no need to bash ust or their players (in fact any other school). actions of a true atenean does not depend on the actions of others. as true ateneans we must be gracious in defeat and cheer on the victors. what is important is how we played the game and not how others played. we have one more game to go. ONE BIG FIGHT! let us end the season on a high note. biggrin.gif

Mr. AC and Kontrabidang Asul,

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you. I hope Mr. Baseball can see the point.

dear spectre gunship,

for your information, the number one pitcher in the baseball team is not a masteral student, john zamora, 4 bs psy, was credited for 4 of the 7 wins and carlo banzon, 1 bs es, with one win. the team have 4 pitchers and only 1 is a masteral student.

get your facts right! of the 17 players, only 4 are masteral and of the four masteral, one finshed ab psy. of the 4 masteral students, it was only villegas who started all games and the rest of the starters were undergrads. of the 17 players, 4 came from xavier, 1 from northfield, 1 from lsgh, 8 came from ateneo high.

for your statement good guys finish last, bahala ka if you want to be like that, i not saying that the ateneo baseball team is a bunch of whimps, but to be a gracious in defeat. if you know baseball and watched a couple of games you will understand. they kicked and blocked opposing players, slid into players, and the pitchers brushed off a couple of players.

good sportmanship is not about being nice on the playing field but be able to accept defeat with honor and pride.

one big fight! goodluck on sunday!

Ang katunayan nyan iho, ang mga hirit tungkol sa sportsmanship ay para sa mga tunay na atenista na may kapasidad na intindihin ang tunay na ibig sabihin nito.

Nice guys finish last? ... sorry umabot ng final four. BEST SEASON EVER!

Oo malaking kawalan sina Villegas at Sta. Ana.

Great season guys! though it didn't end the way we wanted it to, it was an amazing run! no way to go but up! We've proven to everyone in the baseball community that the Ateneo team is a legitimate contender for the crown.

to the graduating players:

Caste Castaneda: Mr. Barangay Bench president! great job leading the cheers and keeping the team alive!

Ryan "DJ Tups" Topacio: Your best season thus far! Great job both on offense and defense

Jay Pua: Though you didnt play much, your presence and commitment to the team is something that the younger players should look up to.

Jake Bautista: Your style of play may be different, but it was the big difference that helped the team!

Jonsi Sibal: You are a true athlete! We admire your dedication and desire to win.

Inly Amable: The best utility player on and off the field!

Rommel Sta. Ana: You deserve a CY Young award!

Melvin Villegas: Gold Glove catcher! A true ballplayer!

To all the fans, supporters and critics: You are the best! We couldn't ask for more! laugh.gif

Congratulations again to the Ateneo Blue Eagle Baseball Team!!! Til next season!

Gentlemen,

Do not bother getting worked up over a dolt such as Spectre Gunship. This person is incapable of contributing anything constructive and is therefore, not worth the energy spent typing out a response.

I do hope however, that the team management realize that they need a durable starter. Zamora strikes me as a closer and not a starter (I could be wrong). Banzon pitched one good game but was whacked in the next. I hope he does not get discouraged. He has very good mechanics. He just needs to work a little more on his pitching. He has a whole year to do that. I guess the same goes for Tolome.

I guess what I am really saying is that the team management has to come up with a solid pitching program for their pitchers. Remember-Pitchers are not born, they are developed.

May I also suggest that the team have a lot of batting practice.

The hold overs of the team still have a lot of potential. From the list players leaving the team, it seems that we still have a solid infield-Dizer, Tolome, Zamora, Baltao, David. Our outfield is pretty solid too Banzon and Olivarez. Of the games I have watched, I can see that these young men know how to move in defense as well as baserunning. They all seem to swing the bat pretty well too.

May I also suggest that since team has 17 players in the lineup, Management should work the bench hard and drill them for specific positions. Give them the experience this summer and during the first semester. That way we do not move players from pitcher to 3rd then to left field. Unless of course the quality of play that the bench can deliver is way below par.

I feel that the budget the school allocates to the baseball team should be equal to the amount allocated to the basketball team. The team management should demand this. Naturally, with more money team management can treat the whole team as a proffessional team or at the least a division 1 college team and spend for training.

I think we have a stronger team this year. We just have to develop our pitching and recruit players with real potential. And of course TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN.

Good Luck to the blue batters who have left the team.
willie wanker
interesting observation from you, twodown. i think what you said makes a lot of sense.

however, as for funding, i believe the basketball team gets most of its funds from alumni boosters. ateneo treats all its sports equally and that includes funding. we cannot do anything about what other people (i.e. alumni boosters) give to the teams, most really want to put their money on basketball since it is the most popular sport in the country.

great job by our blue batters this year! obf!
willie wanker
as for spectre gunship, i think it is wrong judging people based on their appearance. so what if the players you mentioned are not "mistisuhin" as the other players? if these players are not studying in the ateneo, they cannot play in the uaap. it's as simple as that. obviously, the players he mentioned are students of the ateneo.

baseball is a team game. villegas and sta ana both contributed to the wins but every player on the team contributes as much as they do. so to say that they are solely responsible for the team's success (and malaki ang mawawala pag wala na sila) is quite wrong. remember, there are 9 players on the field and you only mentioned 2 of them.

as for sibal's baseball in the US, why not research on that if you want to know about it? i think you are being judgmental about his talent. some players may objectively look "better" in the eyes of others (i.e. can throw stronger, can run faster, etc.) but that doesn't mean sibal is not a good player. he has his strengths as well as weaknesses. hasty generalization perhaps?

i really think you are gunning without thinking. please post sensibly next time!

Willie Wanker,

You seem to know something about how the school spends on sports and how it gets its funding. Am I correct in assuming that you are part of team management?

Can team management find Boosters?

On another note, The team is losing 8 players from its roster. This will mean 9 will remain. If Masterals can no longer play, this will mean you will recruit freshmen? Where are you looking?
willie wanker
no, i am not connected to the team in any way. as for the funding, i read that in the school newspaper before.

The team is already waiting for about 5-6 incoming freshmen. over the past few years, there are always 1 or two walk ins that are good enough to make the team. the team recruits from ILLAM and other private schools. we do try to scout for players from public schools and the provinces. but the chances that these kids will pass the ACET are very slim. so we really have to look out for the good players in the private schools. actually 11 will remain in the roster since we had 19 players in the line up. but since only 17 is allowed in the UAAP, the 2 became reserves.

Well, I think it's safe to say we've got a terrific pitcher-catcher combo now with Dizer going back to catcher and Zialcita pitching. Nikko's one of the most intelligent players I've ever played with. He reads opposing batters' weaknesses very well. Zialcita, the only time I hit against him, I only managed to groundout. That rook's got a lot of velocity. One of the most difficult pitchers I've ever faced and he was only 15 then!

I hope I'm not overhyping them. tongue.gif
