highjumper, i agree with you. Mukhang apektado pa si lipa sa kanilang dating alitan ni wesley. Ive noticed that wes was never given an opportunity to be an important contributor to the team; parang hindi siya binigyan ng pagkakataon to be a major factor. Im so concerned kasi yuung kapwa niya rookie na si pingris nagkaroon na ng breakout game pero si wes hindi pa. Maski dun sa commercial ng pba about fedex, hindi kasali yung pangalan ni wes kahit minsan. Its such a pity because we all know that wes really wants to make a career out of playing in the pros and sayang naman yung tao because ( and Iam being as objective here as possible) he really is a good player and it would be such a pity for him if he doesnt maximize his potential. Para tuloy nasa freezer ngayon yung career ni wes. Sana kasi palitan na lang yang lint*k na coach na yan. Kahit na wes is denying that there is a rift between him and his coach, looks like there really is.

what wes must work on, first and foremost, is adjusting to the kind of defense played in the PBA. he got his first taste of unrelenting pressure man-to-man D when ateneo lost to FEU in the 2003 UAAP finals. when he got to fedex, you have players who are just as tall only just as quick and even stronger than him tailing him every time he gets playing time. for instance, he's in trouble whenever shell's kalani ferreria and the veteran purefoods stalwart rey evangelista put the shackles on him. then again, even imports and fil-ams have great difficulty against rey evangelista.

second, he's still adjusting to his new role as a combo guard in lipa's system. knowing joe lipa, he demands perimeter consistency from his guards in order to make defenses pay whenever they sag their zone coverages. then as now, wesley gonzales is never known for his high shooting percentage, which partly explains his lack of playing minutes. now renren--that's a different story. he's a straight-up 2 guard who can shoot the daylights out of every coliseum he plays in if he had his way.

i still feel that wesley is in the right system to blossom in the PBA. he may not be getting as much minutes as he used to do in ateneo, but that's because he still needs to get his feet wet in how things are done in the big league. everything's faster, more physical, and the stakes higher. even rico wasn't an impact contributor in his rookie year, but look what's become of him now (aside from being a one-punch knockout artist and the scourge of korean thugs). he'll adjust, and i don't believe for a second he and joe don't see eye to eye.

i watched their game vs alaska... aun, ok nman ung laro ni wes! actually nka score nga xa ng 9 pts only in da 3rd qtr plang! nkapag 3 pts pa xa! => kya, i tink na f he was juz given some more time to play, well i surely believe na marami pa xang macocontribute! =>

i would strongly suggest that we refrain from using text lingo. nakakabobo basahin at lalong nakakabobo gumamit in non sms circumstances.

The only thing lacking in Wes' game is his ability to pass. His habit of over dribbling makes him miss open teammates in transition offense. Wes could be a great player only if he learned to share the ball.

Wait! Before the fans say anything!

I agree with Gas regarding Wes being in the right system right now. The Fedex motion offense that thrives on quick scoring on transition offernse, solid screening, cutting, passing and constant hunting for mismatches without sacrificing the integrity of player movement on the court will make Wes a complete player. I enjoyed watching him during their last game against Alaska because he passed the balll, long court or short.

I couldn't forget the assist to Homer Se!

His problem right now is he's thinking too much. He's learning to play off-guard as his regular position and, right now, he's a half-step behind in his decision making. But he's getting there. He'll be OK once he gets the system down pat. But with his size and length, I really like him as a 2. In the game against Alaska, he wasn't too shabby defensively on Arigo. On the other end, FedEx gave him some of Wynne Arboleda's post-up plays from the guard spot.

that's right, babytoy, and that's because he's still learning to play the guard spots under the fedex system. he's still thinking when he should just be reacting. he'll learn. wes had a great game against alaska smile.gif

2. to everyone who posts on this thread, especially sa ibang mga fans ni wes: vote naman kayo para sa kanya. 3. i saw his games against alaska, ginebra, and red bull. Im glad he made 9 points against alaska and that he started in that game against ginebra ( although hindi masyado naging potent yung line up na yun, pero anyway.. )
4. gusto ko lang mag-share. may napapansin ako kay wes. I noticed that since he started playing in pba, parang hindi na siya nag-trash talk

Gee, I wonder why Wesley wasn't invited to try out for the RP Pool? Funny really, considering he is easily the most talented of the Blue Eagles from that 2002 UAAP championship team.
