Wala ba kayong mga kuwento diyan?

Mav,

You'll be glad to know that we kept our conversations about you at a minimum. rolleyes.gif

I wonder if you'd be interested that we discussed the "knock-outs" in our time. Of course, Out and Giant voiced out their all time picks.

We also discussed who had "bright futures" (don't ask...).

Not to forget the discussions on our beloved priest-teachers and the rest of the faculty.

Out,

post mo naman yung list mo, i'm sure the male population would want to add to your it.

Ghost,
Ingat ka sumali dito ph34r.gif

Don't I have anybody to discuss the heart throbs back then??? mad.gif

Don't you want to start first with the funniest and most bastos Team names for the IAC?

Baka if we start with the knock-outs, mapauwi agad si Mav dito sa sobrang miss ng Pilipinas? wink.gif
Maverick
Start with the knockouts, please. Will buy ticket to go home. I wonder what names will pop up on this thread?
Out_of_the_Blue
Ok Mav. You asked for it:

Regular Top "Knock-outs" as presented by Assoc and Alphadakmanokma groups in Colayco Hall Lobby during our time:

1. Gina Alfonso
2. Vicky Morales
3. Pixie Olivares
4. Trisha Limlingan
5. Teresa Ricafort*

* my favorite bet!

Mav/anyone can continue the list.
Maverick
Out of the blue,

Gina and Vicky were real beauties and brains in our batch. They were also very good and genuinely nice people. Vicky married a La Sallite friend of mine and, as everybody knows, made good use of her Comm degree. As for Gina, boy, have I got news for you. She's coming to Boston in the fall to take her Ph.D. Looks like you'll have to buy a ticket to come over! Am staying put.

The only one that comes to mind right now from our batch is Tisha Espiritu. Friend of mine and I did a whole Top Gun inspired "You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'" routine on her only to find out later that she didn't know what the hell we were doing since she never saw the movie! Buhay freshman talaga.

it was great meeting the 14 BP crew. i had such a great time reminiscing about teachers and traditions. iba talaga.

sangre, i remember those boys. aprub nga sila! sandy lichauco was my favorite. i always remember that he opened the door for other people who were carrying too many things and greeted people he didn't know "merry christmas" before school ended for the holiday break.

to add to your list:

1. Rey Laguda
2. Patrick Go

disclaimer: neither one comes from my batch. i just base this on the number of girls who used to swoon over them.

for the girls, well, i remember the cojuangco sisters, mikee and mai-mai were campus favorites. forget the cojuangco cousin. she was more of an irritation. biggrin.gif

carrot, wala ka na nga yata kilala sa mga ito. you may want to check out the aegis in the library for a clearer picture. wink.gif

Have to plead the fifth on this one. My civil status and desire to live a long and healthy life preclude more active participation biggrin.gif I will have to admit though, both Mav and Out's choices are spot on.

Used to bump into Martin in the weirdest of places. Last time was in Hong Kong on Valentine's Day. He was in town for a meeting but was taking a break in a mall to get his wife a Valentine's gift. Am pretty sure he would have made Sangre Azul's list had she chosen to include our batchmates. Man, the guy was a walking practical joke. He was always trying to do something silly.

Speaking of the d*vil (figuratively of course), Gina Alfonso came out in a newspaper ad today for a HSBC promo in the Philippine Star.

She's listed as a NGO founder.

As previously mentioned on this thread, perfect wife material nga yan. Di you know that after graduating from college, she joined the Jesuit Volunteers Program and was assigned in Mindanao.

While Sangre and I were having dinner with her a couple of months ago, I commented that it's high time she got married so that she could share her genes with the rest of the humanity. Tawang-tawa siya biggrin.gif
Giant NRS2
If memory serves, I had many pretty schoolmates during those days. Many.

Beauteous Gina Alfonso was a harana waiting to happen, anywhere she showed up.

Frannie Lopez was always particularly appealing for her carinosa manner and classic cheekbones- something Rustan's recognized when they made her their signature model.

Aquiline-nosed Christine Salud was the epitomy of morena beauty.

Michele Periquet was always fetching.

Pixie Olivares had her own appeal.

Mia Herbosa had an artistic depth that belied her girlish charm, (of course now she's making loads of moolah out of that talent.)

Free-spirited Carla Chiongbian was always fun.

Studious Michi Alcabao was cute in her glasses and preppie get-ups.

Marge Evangelista was not only pretty but perky, and seemed to have been many a guy's fantasy girl.

Marianne Africa was simple, elegant, and stylish- nobody wore a string of pearls better than she did.

Tere Ricafort was beauty and brains personified; ditto fellow Povedan Pia Punsalan. Raissa Jara on the other hand was petite pretty. (Funny, I always thought she and Pia looked alike.)

Vicky Morales was ever the stunner.

Statuesque Madeline Uybico was striking because of her flawless complexion and piercing almond eyes.

Dusky Ginny Lombos was mysterious albeit accessible all at the same time.

Chinese-Portugese-Filipino Pam Young who was partial to knitted sleeveless blouses (Tan-Gan?) could give Michelle Yeoh of James Bond fame serious competition. Again, those cheekbones!

Valerie Velasco was also always well put-together.

...well, that's the list off the top of my head. During those days, I would say that among Ateneo, DLSU and UP campuses, we had the highest ratio of lookers per capita. Having said that, TO ME, the prettiest girl of that era hung out at the UP AS Lobby. I used to go over there with the likes of Vince Tobias and Mike Lopez during long breaks; both of whom also had someone to visit in the other campus along Katipunan. The girl I used to see had quite a following herself over there. Thus, I had to keep myself visible if only to keep the wolves at bay. Lucky for me, I now have the privilege of waking up next to her every single day biggrin.gif

Re: your expeditions to UP -- I vaguely remember going with you and Vince on one of those expeditions. Whereas you guys had more serious business at hand, I had lunch at CASAA and tried to scope the scene. I remember that day! We rode Vince's freshly painted blue rocket ship, knock-kneed 18 year old me in plaid bermudas, had shotgun. You were in khakis and a tucked in polo (beige? cream?) at the back. Of course back then, Vince had the pleasure of calling the beautiful Debbie Nakpil his girlfriend. (In fairness, as much as we ragged on him, Vince quite popular with the ladies.)

As for your alleged scoping of the UP womenfolk however, I more clearly remember you eyeing a mestiza much closer to home biggrin.gif One of my memories of that time is of a starry-eyed Mav talking of marrying this particular lady one day...Wasn't it Julia Fordham who lamented "where does the time go?"

Inah Arcilla, was she the one on the football team? Had a prominent chin?

Illac was a bit of a flake. Grade School days pa lang namin ganun na siya. I hope you didn't become his roomie during his violin days. He used to carry around a violin as part of his "stress management." Illac was also a track and field guy, I think he was once the record holder in the longjump and high hurdles.

Hans Montenegro and Ryan Agoncillo used to mooch cab fare from my brother and a few of Yungha's other batchmates to "go to a shooting/taping/dubbing session" or some such shit like that. Their cab fare benefactors are one in saying they never got paid back even after these guys hit the big time. cool.gif

Real Italian pasta sauce from Illac Diaz
KITCHEN SPY By Heidi Ng

Publish Date: [Thursday, January 29, 2004]

Illac Diaz is truly a combination of east and west. Born of a Filipino father and an Italian mother, he looks like a typical Eurasian.

His father met his mother on a plane ride from Germany to Manila via Rome. He was taking a technical course in Germany and was on a connecting flight to Manila, while she was working as a stewardess when they met. They later married, and she moved to Manila to be with her husband. Born in Brescia, Italy, she taught her native language to all her kids, so Illac is very fluent in Italian. Illac has also imbibed that trademark Italian passion.

Italians are reputedly great lovers. They are a very passionate people – be it about work, family, fashion, design and, yes, food! Not so long ago, Illac ventured into business because of love. He was pursuing a woman who was taking up law at the Ateneo, when he noticed that she always had to photocopy a lot of cases. So what he and a partner did was to open a photocopying business in law schools, offering services such as looking for the required books in the library, photocopying them and charging cheaper than prevailing rates. It was a novel and welcome idea – rather than the students going to the library and photocopying the cases themselves, Illac’s company did everything for the students, giving them more time to study. And it was all because of love. "I had to find a way to be with her," he says.

Since then, he has had a string of businesses. His latest "baby" is the Pier One Seafarer’s Dormitory, which has 1,000 beds to accommodate seamen waiting for their papers to be processed. It has also become a shelter for the homeless. Illac thinks this is one creative way to solve the housing problem of Metro Manila.

An entrepreneur with a social conscience, Illac tries to come up with concepts to benefit the marginalized. He likes to think that his dormitory project is proof that young people can make a difference in the lives of those who have less. It has been incredibly difficult, he says, but there’s no stopping now. He plans to build another dormitory in the Malate area this year. Yes, indeed, Illac is quite passionate not so much about living the good life as giving something back to the community.

Now, let’s talk about Illac’s other burning passion – cooking! He learned how to cook at an early age, because survival was the name of the game while growing up with 62 cousins. Every time there was a family gathering, food would always run out. So, he always ended up cooking his own food. He learned to make the perfect eggs on toast.

When he was younger, he would spend his summers in Italy, and one of the things he enjoyed doing there was helping his grandmother bake bread. He says he could whip up a mean lasagna, but adds, "I don’t do it anymore because I don’t want women to fall in love with me."

Hans was my batchmate and we were both in the AP under the command of Buddy Cunanan, the only officer whom we swore loyalty to. Hans' defining moment in the service came when he, while on patrol, caught and "apprehended" a freshman giving her boyfriend the lollypop treatment in a parked car in the ISO parking area. A few years later, the ghosts of his past would catch up with him.

Rab,

Illac was my batchmate since Prep. We were classmates in Grade 5. We were classmates all throughout High School. Believe me when I tell you this guy was a bit on the flakey side. He told me a lot of times that he "cannot stand doing things the way they are normally done" so go figure, to each his bloody own I guess.

On the more mundane side, I believe he's still running his dorm for seafarers in Intramuros, Pier One Dormitory. he said he had plans to take on a bigger building in Kalaw near Luneta so it would be nearer to the agencies, dunno if he got it done. Age must really settle people down, because he's become quite the builder and entrepreneur, far cry from his violin days when he'd just take the damn thing out and play whenever it struck his fancy. A High School classmate told me he even did it in the caf once, and got a smattering of applause, mostly from the dreamy-eyed femmes who were all agog over their violin-playing Eurasian adonis.

To me he's still just Illac. I know you lurk here pare so HI! biggrin.gif

Hello batchmate! victory_fils, manong_pinakbet and tintin96 are also from 1996.

Barney Alunan was not from our batch. She was either from 1993 or 1994, I believe. 'Twas Cay Rodriguez who was from 1996.

Perhaps the reason why not too many 1996 hearthrobs are mentioned was because we really didn't have that many of them. Batches 1996, 1997 and 1998 were kinda deprived especially when compared with 1995 and earlier (Crissanne Olives, Celeste Africa, Camille Tolentino, Peach Gonzales, Carla Cabalfin, Lia Andanar, Liza Infante, Tiffy Liboro, Carmen Romualdez, Honey Hagedorn, Barney Alunan, etc.) and most of the other guys here in the forums came from that era. Then the hearthrobs started flooding back starting batch 1999 onwards (Patty Laurel, Maxenne Magalona, etc.). We sure did miss a lot!

Speaking of heartthrobs and matinee idols, does any one here remember JEFF RAZON, the perennial It's A Date contestant of Ateneo back in 1991, 1993? That guy was a riot! laugh.gif

Barni Alunan and Crisann Olives were from the Class of 1994, although I have no clue if they graduated. Crisann was planning to go to the States in her sophomore year, Barni too I think.

Not sure about Ryan Agoncillo although my brother said he was a cab fare moocher from their barkada in the College, so I assume he was Atenean, or maybe from the Grade School or High School and had classmates who went to the College.

Anong batch si Patty Tysmans? She had a very, ahem, global nickname. But this being a family site I cannot print it. Suffice it to say that it included her Belgian heritage right there.

I also remember Cathy Carlos, Steph Baltao (now married to one of my classmates yata) and Mona Katigbak from the Class of 1995 were also lookers.

Hey Mav, check out my last post on the Anything Goes forum, your favorite thread on You Know You're An Atenean. I would be honored if you would add on your own comments.

Is it true we will be losing yet another football field with the impending construction of another building where the open parking lots presently are? Huwag naman sana, diyosme!

Just came from the campus this afternoon. GRABE na ang traffik and parking hassle! Kala ko sa La Salle lang mahirap ang parking? - remember the joke? laugh.gif

- sa Ateneo, mahirap and entrance test, sa La Salle mahirap and parking!

Seriously, school management should start thinking of adding more roads to decongest. Come to think of it, why don't we buy Miriam instead and make it our Grade School? Then, expand the college to the high school area and make the existing grade school area the high school! Cool!
