Hey girls! my name is carla abellana and I'm also new here. Anyway, as soon as I read all the threads for larry in this site, I immediately registered so I can send threads about him too... anyway, just like all of you, I'm LARRY FONACIER'S no. 1 fan. it's nice to read all the messages here about him because i can definately relate and i get to learn a lot from you guys too. thank you for that. It was nice to see Larry there sitting with the team and doing his job as the co-captain... nung humahabol ang FEU, he stood up without any aid and walked towards his other teammates and tapped their shoulders pa nga... parang saying na, "kaya pa yan!!"

Hi girls! The pic was nice by the way.... I watched the game last sunday and i was seated right beside the dug out and it was great! it was the best time ever because i got the nearest seat and i was able to see larry up close whenever they would pass by.... As usual, i was in awe. anyway, it wasnt just that. I was able to go inside the dug out because a girl from studio 23 asked me to VTR for courtside reporter and i was able to see the players really up close.... except for larry, who was inside the room at that time. but it was great! i swear i didn't want to leave the place because i was taking advantage of the opportunity. i was there the whole time during half tym, isnt dat great? Well, i was just so glad to finally see larry again up on his feet and I swear, it was the greatests moments ive ever experienced so far...

Fonacier: Rookie of the Year derby pacesetter

FROM THE looks of it, another former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagle could end up as the Philippine Basketball Association Rookie of the Year this season.

Trying to replicate the feat of Ateneo teammate Rich Alvarez, Larry Fonacier of Red Bull has pulled away from the rest of the field in the race for the ROY award after the Bulls captured the Fiesta Conference crown recently.

Fonacier, selected 14th overall in the second round by the Bulls, has compiled a total of 1,521 points based on statistics, won-game and playoff bonuses. The 6-foot-3 marksman had 670 statistical points, 750 won-game and 101 playoff bonus points.

“When we got him in the draft, the plan was to break him in gently,” said Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao. “But he has proved himself. He has earned his minutes inside the court.”

Fonacier’s trek to stardom, however, wasn’t easy. He suffered an ACL tear on his left knee two years ago while playing for the Eagles in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines league.

In the draft, teams passed up Fonacier before the Bulls gambled and snagged him in the second round.

“Everybody was amazed at Larry’s recovery,” said Arben Santos, Fonacier’s manager. “Luckily, he ended up with the right team which gave him a chance to prove himself.”

From fifth place in the rookie race, Fonacier jumped to the top after 32 games, averaging 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per outing. Ranked 12th overall for the conference MVP, Fonacier is the only rookie in the top 30 players of the conference.

Dislodged from No. 1 for the ROY award was Sta. Lucia Realty’s Alex Cabagnot, who led all rookies in the eliminations but faded in the playoffs after his team finished seventh.

Cabagnot now stands at sixth overall with 802 points. The Hawaii-based playmaker could still get a clear shot at the award if the Realtors make a good account of themselves in the All-Filipino Conference beginning Sunday.

Curiously, a former University of the East Warrior moved behind Fonacier in the freshman contest. Nino Canaleta of Air21 accumulated 975 points after the Express barged into the semifinals for the first time in franchise history.

Red Bull’s Leomar Najorda is running third with 930 points while Mike Holper of Barangay Ginebra and Red Bull’s Paolo Bugia are neck-and-neck with 925 and 890 points, respectively.

I heard about this but did not get to watch the show. Here's one question I remember, but it wasn't Larry who gave the right answer:

Q. Saang trabaho ginagamit ang nom de plume?

Ren-ren: Construction worker?
Rico: WRITER!

And I seem to remember there was a question about statistics that had Larry grinning because he knew the answer right away.

Watching GKNB was the reason i was late for the HAIL game against UST (and what an amazing game that was, but that's another story). I was headed out the door when the TV showed Rodney Santos, Renren, Larry and Rico being questioned by Kris, and I knew I had to stay a few more minutes.

Actually I don't think Kris praised Ateneo all that much. There was no glowing appreciation from what I saw. She did make a slight joke that Rico's education was the reason he knew about Dagul's offscreen name. I even got the slight impression that Kris was a little patronizing to all her guests, but maybe that's just the cynic in me talking. She was visibly surprised that Larry knew that the body of water that Jesus asked a blind man to wash himself in was the pool of Siloam. She did say things like, "Iba ka, Larry." I don't watch GKNB that often, so maybe guests like them were a change of pace for her.

Before that round started, Kris asked all her guests what they majored in and how many years it took them to get their undergraduate degrees. I did not catch Rodney's answer, but Larry and Rico said they finished in 4 years, while Renren said he finished in 5. I always thought that the trimester system would actually shorten one's stay in school. If it were not for some questions related to basketball and cinema, Renren wouldn't have advanced. Still I think Renren represented La Salle well, as they would have been worse off if some of their other players were there instead.

it was obvious larry doesn't watch the show coz renren had to remind him of the mechanics!

who was on the cover of the 1st FHM philippines? (rico answered assunta but the answer was alicia silverstone - so he didn't get the million peso pot, but his 50T pot will increase each week he isn't kicked out by a new celebrity contestant)

i forget the other questions!

btw, kris was asking rico about a new name people are calling him. hen (???) why are they calling him this?

Thanks for the details! It would have been nice to watch a game show wherein the contestants actually knew something, but I watched something else (i.e., the Ateneo-UST HAIL game) so whatever.

what i heard is that rico has very large thumbs, so the "hen" must be short for "hinlalaki."

oo nga. ano ba meaning ng "hen" talaga? she referred to him as enrico when she was talking to the new contestants tapos biglang "hen" tawag nya wen rico went up..

just wondrin..natawa talaga ako when i saw the former blue eagles was being flash on the tv screen...as in parang walang reaction si larry noong sa kanya naka focus yong camera samantalang yong mga katabi nya ay nagbibiroan..ganoon ba talaga siya?
