Though Nov. 23 is much better for me, I really have no problem with 16 either.
Ghostrider,
I volunteer you to select the venue/meeting place and the time. You can just send a personal message regarding the time and place to the guys in on the 14 Beers Project when you've determined the venue.
Carrot,
We'll find you a ride. Don't worry. Also, please note that you won't be serving any drinks!
UpperBox,
You better drink at least one beer after all this 14 Beers thing started as your idea!

Regulars will know what this is all about, but for the benefit of people who don't have a clue what the title of this thread means, it refers to an initiative in a previous thread of memorializing the Blue Eagle players from the 14-year title drought. The original plan was to send out this chain e-mail:
"THE 14 BEERS MEMORIAL PROJECT
In honor of the Blue Eagles who played during the 14-year UAAP drought
With your next 14 beers please remember the Ateneo players who never won a championship between 1988 and 2002. They worked just as hard as any champions, they played before thin crowds, and they fought the good fight.
One big fight! and cheers!
Please drink responsibly, and pass this on to any players you may know from that period, or fans who supported the Blue Eagles through the last 14 years. If you do not pass it on within 24 hours of receiving this, Ateneo will NEVER WIN AGAIN because FANS WHO DON'T REMEMBER DON'T DESERVE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Ateneans never forget."
Since those more innocent times, however, the regulars have determined that they will honor the 14 beers pledge as a group, and hope some interesting basketball insights will ensue. Non-regulars are welcome for drinks too. Please register your interest in the next few days on this thread.
Re proposed drinks venue: Makati should be central if we have anyone coming from the deep south. If we have no Alabang/Las Pinas/Panaraque types, Libis would be great.

Want to hear the height of paranoia? We may also need to work out a procedure to root out impostors who might come and claim somebody's nickname. As we have no way of proving or disproving claimed identities when we meet for drinks, I think Ghostrider will need to private-message the venue and details to people's Atenista accounts. Maybe we can get people to recite some obscure Ateneo cheer. My vote is for the Artillery Yell, ha ha. There's just something hilarious about hearing grown men shouting "Boom Chicka-Boom!" as fast as they can.
Maverick

I vote for "Cheer, cheer and go." There's a line in that cheer that goes "onward and smile." That's my candidate for most non-aggresive line in an Ateneo cheer!
By the way, we actually tried to cheer the "Artillery Yell" in Game 3 this year. My sister found the "boom-chicka-boom" parts a little weird.

Have a little sympathy for people asking permission from their wives. You can just imagine how suspicious the whole situation can sound. Picture this bit of dialogue between Mr and Mrs Yungha:

I was seated right below the BBB during that game and I heard them cheering that. I don't think a lot of people know that one esp. the younger ones and those who didn't study at Ateneo for HS and GS (which includes me hehehe).

Uhhh...excuse me...hi, I'm someone who can't even keep up with the BBB when we do "Fabilioh"

A sample of my permission-asking speech: "Hey, Mom? A bunch of people I've met over the Internet are planning to get together and drink beer. Di pa sure when and where. May I go?...You and dad can come too, if you don't mind sitting near a bunch of noisy Ateneans talking about basketball."

Carrot: Surely enough former cheerleaders will show up to teach you a Fabilioh or two :-) Should you have any further difficulty establishing your identity, try showing up as Kelly McGillis in her Amish outfit from "Witness."
Anyone with permission problems, we promise to provide you with airtight alibis. My favorite is, "Oh, we just played billiards." This just about covers any situation I can imagine. It's harmless and bland, and can be used to explain why you smell of cigarettes, beer, and have baby powder all over your body. A plausible explanation for blue chalk on the hands, I'm still working on.

Hmmm...aside from making this event a swapping of Ateneo basketball lore and insider information on the hot new prospects of the Ateneo team, maybe we can have a freakin' cheer rally in the middle of the restaurant/bar to initiate those who are struggling in the stands. We can start of with the usual cheers (Fabilioh) then move up to the more exotic ones (Boomalaka, Artilery yell, The Hoiah). We can even throw in the Ateneo songs. I'll even bring **** Gordon's frozen eagle -- it's still in my freezer!

It can accommodate a large group plus it has several large tv screens where we can run the best games of the Eagles and possibly other documentary features on our team while we are boozing away. Owner is also an Atenean, Sammy Zamora. Let me know if this interests you and I'll talk to Sammy. Is the 23rd of Nov final?

For those with permission problems -- why not just bring your wives? In the interest of Internet safety, I might have to drag my parents along. They'll sit at another table, of course (my La Sallian father might explode otherwise), but will be close enough to identify any of you from the police lineup if anything happens to me

Carrot: Also in the interest of Internet safety, I think you'll need to brief the group about what we can't discuss in front of your parents. The main issues are, is your dad a good sport when it comes to a bunch of Ateneans messing around about La Salle? And have you posted anything on the threads that might offend him? Because I can just imagine someone saying in a loud cheerleader voice, "Ah, ikaw pala si Manyak cum Laude!" Might be messy.
The upside to all this is, I've always wanted to pose in a police lineup photo a la Kevin Spacey in The Usual Suspects. Maybe I should change my pseudonym to Keyser Soze.

Good question.
Scenario 1: They might not let me go. I've mentioned it about twice to my folks and they haven't said no, but once the details (date, time, venue, the fact that I will be drinking around people -- mostly guys -- I don't personally know) are finalized, they might freak out and lock me up. This is a bit of an exaggeration, though
Scenario 2: They might let me commute to wherever it is we're going to meet (subject to public utility transpo constraints), but then will pick me up when I'm ready to go home.
Scenario 3: They'll bring me there then go somewhere else until I'm ready to go home, like to Merk's if we'll be in Greenbelt (hehe, plugging).
For Scenarios 2 and 3, no worries
Scenario 4: They go with me and sit someplace else.
Scenario 5: Horror of horrors -- they sit with us!
For Scenarios 4 and 5, I think what we've discussed on the threads thus far -- next year's prospects and basketball-related lore (whether or not starring the Sockless One

) -- won't offend my dad. He might even pitch in a few stories of his own (in the case of Scenario 5)...or round up a few of his buddies so he'll have sympathetic people to sit with (Scenario 4). He'll definitely be interested in the frozen eagle

And since I don't think we'll be resorting to the immature "ACET flunkers" and "bobo" barbs, I don't think I need to go into that

So, in conclusion, I really still have to make sure that I can go

If I can, then I think maintaining our level of discussion to the quality that we have on the boards thus far is just fine. Just don't mention the "Manyak Cum Laude" anymore

Looks like the tribe has spoken.
There being no objections, the 14 beers project is tentatively set for the 23rd at the Libis area.
I have a friend who's the part owner of a bar/nightspot in Libis. Hopefully, he'll be generous enough to let us use the place and throw in a little freebies as well. I'll see if we can set up a TV to play the 87-88 vcds (if I get it from Pizza Guy in time) or games from this year's championship series.
Do we have an agenda/schedule of activities or is there anything we need (i.e. props, drums)? Baka kailangan ng icebreaker kasi magkaka-hiyaan ang mga tao. Ateneo memorabilia would be nice (and a sure fire ice-breaker).
Are we going to use name tags? There is a distinct possiblity of "identity theft". Personally, I wouldn't mind wearing a name tag. Finally, we might need a headcount, just to make sure we all fit in the venue

.

Re icebreakers: we can make a game out of the whole identity thing. Let's start the evening by giving our basic details (real name, batch, course, current job, etc) and have everyone match people up with the pseudonyms. (For an attendance check we could get people to write their pseudonyms on strips of paper and throw them into a box). There may be some regulars who already know something of each other so we should probably excuse them from guessing on certain turns. Also, if Ghostrider acts like the host we'll know immediately who he is. Obviously any girls who turn up will be relatively easy to identify. Especially if they bring their parents :-).
Props for the rest of the evening: I was going to suggest a trampoline but the venue may be to small. But seriously - any memorabilia or tapes of games from the era would be nice.

Okay then, no batch. Just name, course, current job. Then three rounds of questions for everyone (max) and everybody guesses.
Re props -- all I can think of are paper, pens, box, name tags for later in the evening when we've all confessed. The stick on kind that says "Hi, my name is..." And can someone print out the threads so we can look at the record?
Memorabilia. Old copies of Guidon or Aegis. (Does Matanglawin have a sports section yet?)
Game tapes - VHS, not beta. Old shirts. Jerseys. Gusto ninyong mag-scavenger hunt? Here's my list: The dead Eagle. Danny Francisco's lung. The revolver Jet Nieto's father fired into the air at Rizal Memorial during an on-court brawl. The goalpost from Ninoy Aquino Stadium that fell on Sandy A. Cardona's high school transcript.
No major hassle bringing these, I think, as long as we can pin down responsibilities. Can I bring the paper napkins?

Icebreakers? Sounds like we're having a soiree!
I'll bring my stash of memorabilia to the gathering. I even used one of the old 88 shirts as a "lucky" shirt during the run-up to this year's championship.
Remember that "Great Champions Die Hard" shirt which we came out with after the 88 championship (and which Jun Reyes presented to the Sockless One at the one and only TV appearance of the Eagles in 88)? I first brought that shirt along with me for luck during the second round Ateneo - La Salle match. Since we won that match, I took it along to the next game I attended, the second Ateneo - UE game (the Gec Chia match). Since we also "miraculously" won that game, I concluded that the shirt was indeed "lucky" and, therefore, would be put to greater service during the championship series. Except for Game 2, the "lucky" shirt still has a pretty good record.
Sometimes my friends debate whether it was Rico or Wes or LA or Larry or Gec who was the key player who got us the championship. I always tell them: "You're all wrong. It's the lucky shirt, man!"
I was thinking of washing it recently then I thought of next year's campaign. Well, I guess that shirt will now join the ranks of the great unwashed!

The dead Eagle.
1) I'll also bring my "hoard" of Guidon's featuring the 87 and 88 championships plus the Aegis 89 (which I merely borrowed). If I go completely overboard, I may convince someone to go to the Ateneo Archives and photocopy the accounts of the 69, 75 and 76 championships. (Anyone here on this thread who was in High School or College during the 75 - 77 championship run? I was still in grade school then. I have clear memories of that time but very selective. Would love to talk about the 70's championships.)
2) Dead Eagle - After all these years, maybe **** Gordon has forgotten about the incident and is more in control of himself as regards this issue. Maybe I can go to good old **** 's office in the DOT and say: "Excuse me, **** . You don't know me, **** , but 13 years ago I saw your eagle die! SOrry about that, **** . By the way, **** , where is it now? I'd like to bring it to a party, **** , if you don't mind." (Aside: I love the auto-censor feature of this forum!)

Washing will not affect the vibes. I wore almost the exact same outfit to Game 3 that I wore to the Sept. 14 game, except for the socks, I think...anyway, all of it was laundered except for the sneakers.
In fact, I think we lost Game 2 because, although I probably wore the same thing to that game, one article of clothing technically did not go through the entire laundering process

I didn't want to jinx the team, that why I sold my game 3 tickets (which I had patiently lined up for at 1am) to my friend at cost.
