Here's something a little closer to home:
"Lagyan mo ng bat weight para gumaan!" -
Jonathan Sibal (Ateneo Baseball), on practice swinging the baseball bats at the on-deck circle at Rizal Ballpark during the UAAP games.
*Of course, he says later on that he was "thinking ahead" (when you swing a heavy bat during practice and you release the weight during the actual games, the bat becomes lighter and faster), much to the laughter of his teammates.

"What is the time?!?" - Mark Telan, UAAP championship game against UST. He wanted to say, "What time is it?!?" ala Chicago Bulls.
After the game a reporter interviewed Jun Limpot and asked him, "Jun, each time you play against Ateneo you always have a close fight even if they are not that strong. What can you say about this?" Jun Limpot paused for about five seconds and then said, "what?"

Here are a few more quips from Yogi Berra.
When Yogi was still a player, he saw that the opposing pitcher was having a good day. Just before he was about to go to bat, he said to one of the coaches, " I think that guy is going to strike me out."
The coach replied that it was no good being negative, that he should adopt a positive attitude.
Yogi replied, "You're right, coach. I'm POSITIVE that that guy is going to strike me out."
Another quip: Yogi was admiring the switch-hitting success of his teammate Mickey Mantle and said, "I'd give my right arm if I could be ambidexterous."

what i find amusing are the tired and worn out "sports" cliches that we hear athletes and coaches mouth every so often:
1. there is no letter "i" in the word t-e-a-m;
2. sabi ni coach we should give our "110 %" Whhhaaat!;
3. sabi ni coach we should "step up" ;
4. "salamat kay Lord, nanalo kami";
5. and i remember how i hated it when I reviewed the 2nd UE_ADMU game when Tubid would always ham it up ( sign of the cross, pointing upwards while doubling back on defense,acting like a tazmanian devil by jumping up and down,) for the camera everytime he scores, or makes a free throw. I also hate it when Danny Ildefonso makes that stupid "raise the roof" gesture everytime he scores, ang baduy!!
