Katuwaan lang. biggrin.gif

"I can't really remember the names of the clubs that we went to." - Shaquille O'Neal, asked whether he had visited the Parthenon during his trip to Greece

"I don't know. I've never played there." - Golfer Sandy Lyle, asked about Tiger Woods

"He can hit just as good right-handed as he can left-handed. He's just naturally amphibious." - Yogi Berra, on Mickey Mantle

We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees. - Jason Kidd in his rookie year

Maverick
That's propesterous! - Basketball legend, Senator Robert "Sonny" Jaworski, during a Senate hearing
yungha
"Hey that's you!," Dominique Wilkins (Atlanta Hawks), watching a game on TV, talking to a teammate who had been recently traded to the Hawks, seated beside him. Then, to no one in particular, "Is this game live?"
miss d
This isn't stupid, just funny.

Charles Barkley, on kids:
"Kids are great. That's one of the best things about our business, all the kids you get to meet. It's a shame they have to grow up to be regular people and come to the games and call you names."

Sir Charles is such a quotable person. smile.gif
Maverick
Yogi Berra (again), on Toots Shor's bar: That place is so crowded, hardly anybody goes there anymore.
Mr. Baseball
"I feel like I'm the best, but you're not going to get me to say that." - Jerry Rice
Mr. Baseball
"It went quickly, but it was like an eternity." - Dave Winfield, on his decade with the Yankees
Mr. Baseball
Here's something a little closer to home: wink.gif

"Lagyan mo ng bat weight para gumaan!" - Jonathan Sibal (Ateneo Baseball), on practice swinging the baseball bats at the on-deck circle at Rizal Ballpark during the UAAP games.

*Of course, he says later on that he was "thinking ahead" (when you swing a heavy bat during practice and you release the weight during the actual games, the bat becomes lighter and faster), much to the laughter of his teammates. biggrin.gif

Perhaps we should rename this thread Athletes Say The Darnedest Things.

"Mr Wenger has lost his voice as opposed to Mr Ferguson who has lost his head."
Statement made over the Arsenal PA; system; English Football Association inquiry follows

Arsenal are a bunch of sore losers, eh?
miss d
Bill Peterson, Florida State football coach, reportedly said...

"This is the greatest country in America." and "You can observe a lot just by watching."

Chicago Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson on being a role model: "I want all the kids to do what I do, to look up to me. I want all the kids to copulate me." biggrin.gif

"What is the time?!?" - Mark Telan, UAAP championship game against UST. He wanted to say, "What time is it?!?" ala Chicago Bulls.

After the game a reporter interviewed Jun Limpot and asked him, "Jun, each time you play against Ateneo you always have a close fight even if they are not that strong. What can you say about this?" Jun Limpot paused for about five seconds and then said, "what?"

ReMark
Here are a few more quips from Yogi Berra.

When Yogi was still a player, he saw that the opposing pitcher was having a good day. Just before he was about to go to bat, he said to one of the coaches, " I think that guy is going to strike me out."
The coach replied that it was no good being negative, that he should adopt a positive attitude.
Yogi replied, "You're right, coach. I'm POSITIVE that that guy is going to strike me out."

Another quip: Yogi was admiring the switch-hitting success of his teammate Mickey Mantle and said, "I'd give my right arm if I could be ambidexterous."

what i find amusing are the tired and worn out "sports" cliches that we hear athletes and coaches mouth every so often:

1. there is no letter "i" in the word t-e-a-m;

2. sabi ni coach we should give our "110 %" Whhhaaat!;
3. sabi ni coach we should "step up" ;

4. "salamat kay Lord, nanalo kami";

5. and i remember how i hated it when I reviewed the 2nd UE_ADMU game when Tubid would always ham it up ( sign of the cross, pointing upwards while doubling back on defense,acting like a tazmanian devil by jumping up and down,) for the camera everytime he scores, or makes a free throw. I also hate it when Danny Ildefonso makes that stupid "raise the roof" gesture everytime he scores, ang baduy!!

Contrary to popular belief, it was NOT Jun Limpot who uttered this infamous remark. It was Johndel Cardel.

Eto naman non-athlete:

"The United States has a lot to contribute to the Third World War."

- Ronald Reagan, during a speech

(What he actually meant to say is: "The U.S. has a lot to contribute to the THIRD WORLD.")
yungha
from a friend of mine who was actually there:

teacher: Mark Clemence Telan, you are late again! ang lapit-lapit lang ng dorm mo ah! tell me, did you walk or did you run?

telan: ah, mam, did i run.

God,may mas malala pa ba kay TUBID with his "fist-chest" thing? It's so like Jason Kidd but Kidd gets away with it because he has some sort of sentimental reason behind the gesture, but this Tubid guy...who does he think he is? Feeling pro na dati hindi pa naman! yuck

Ren Ren Ritualo sits in in some class in DLSU.

The bell rings and the teacher prepares to leave.

Ren Ren raises his hand.

"Mam, pwedeng kopyahin yung nasa blackboard?"

One can only guess how the teacher reacted.

Limpot was writing the card in a plane trip going abroad while playing for the RP team. His co player was the one who related the story.

One of the coaches in the UAAP once said this, when he was still an analyst covering the games:

"Yeah, I read it in the archives (pronounced AR-CHAYVS)!"

and

"Yup, partner, I think that was the final dagger in the coffin..."

Sporting_chance
Patricia Bermudez interviewing Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio prior to their last game of the conference

PB: “Coach, coming into this game what did you tell your boys to motivate them considering that it’s the team’s last game.”

RG: “Well, I just told them that, like in Michael Jordan’s latest commercial, play this game as if it’s your last.”

I think they lost the game though... biggrin.gif

here are some from the football world (taken from thebeautifulgame.org)

"I've never wanted to leave. I'm here for the rest of my life, and hopefully after that as well." - Alan Shearer. Be prepared for some spooky going-ons at St James Park some decades down the road.
"My parents have been there for me, ever since I was about seven." - David Beckham. Betcha didn't know that Golden Balls came from a rock.
"We lost because we didn't win." - Ronaldo
"Sometimes in football you have to score goals." - Thierry Henry
"Zero-zero is a big score." - Ron Atkinson

:confused: rolleyes.gif :eek:

Marrying into the Escudero Family is only the smart thing Limpot did in his entire drug infested life. They met in BENILDE not at the school he was playing for.
