WrestleMania XX has come and gone, and Vince McMahon has announced that there will be a massive reshuffling of the Raw and SmackDown rosters.

I, personally, thought that WrestleMania caused some good things to finally happen. (Out of consideration for people who don't want spoilers, I won't go into a discussion of my favorite results. smile.gif Unless you want to talk about them. It's all already on the internet, anyway.)

I'm also excited about the reshuffling. I'm not too optimistic about teams and factions being split up -- I'm sure they'll figure out a way to circumvent that somewhere along the line -- but it would be good to get some big-name talent back in SmackDown again. And for some reason I want to see Shaniqua on Raw -- I guess it's because I want to see her wrestle in the women's division.

Your thoughts?

Hey man, I was FINALLY able to successfully register at this forum after months of agonizing attempts. Ayos ba?

Hey Carrot!

A little kwento about Wrestlemania.

Tickets to the events were sold out as early as July of last year! A friend of mine (who works as a Brooklyn cop) got his ringside tickets for $150! That much to swap war stories beside THE DONALD (that's how they call Donald Trump here).

I wasn't able to get anything, no tickets. Not even in the nosebleed section of the Gah-den. So i had to content myself with PPV (which costs an equally grimacing $50!).

The show lasted like 4 hours. Not every moment was as exciting as Vince McMahon made it out to be. A lot of the matches dragged and just plain bored the hell out of people. The cruiserweight battles were rushed. The tag team matches were uninspiring qnd boring. And some of the sideshows like introducing the Wrestling Hall of Fame and Jesse Ventura's spiel ringside were either lacking in appeal or outright useless. Parang filler. They should have shown video tributes for the Hall of Fame wrestlers as opposed to just bringing them out to wave to the crowd. Not many kids of the Y Gen know who these cats are. And the divas match-up were real lame (except for the Jackie vs. Molly).

best matches of the evening: Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho vs. Christian.

In the days before Wrestlemania, several wrestlers made their way to Times Square for some video game challenges and autograph signing. Ric Flair was there. John Cena, the Undertaker, the World's Greatest Tag Team, the APA.

I was only able to go after work and the lines were incredibly long. I did see Undertaker up close and he is one huge badass!

A couple of weeks ago, I was able to get Tori and Sable sigs on their Playboy ish at a signing in Virgin Mega. Tori was nice and friendly while Sable was obviously some selfish *****.

I'm not sure what the re-shuffle (the draft) is all about, but IMHO, it's a waste of time. i guess Vince didn't want Smackdown upstaging RAW. but it'll be plenty interesting to see what happens.

Heh, to tell you the truth I don't really watch the matches themselves anymore. I just follow the storylines tongue.gif

And it's true (it's true!), I doubt if many of the younger fans have heard of Harley Race, Billy Graham and Don Muraco. Bobby the Brain and Big John Studd, pwede pa, but that's assuming the kids saw them on Hulk Hogan's Rock N' Wrestling like I did.

I think Cyndi Lauper should be inducted next. And I really want to watch that hair vs. hair match. I saw some of the stills and Molly should look pretty interesting the next time she shows up to wrestle! biggrin.gif

Yeah, Sable does look suplada. I know she tried to sue the then-WWF the first time she left, so there is definitely some "attitudinal problems" and bad blood there.

SmackDown will never (eeeeever) upstage Raw. Everyone wants to go to Raw -- it's like Raw is America and SmackDown is the Philippines rolleyes.gif

Anyway, I've seen some of the draft results and it looks like not many people moved. Evolution is still intact; too bad. I think the Bashams are in Raw now, though, which should be cool. As I think I've said, I want to see Shaniqua wrestle.

Carrot,

I don't know if you know this but one of your wrestling idols, Jesse "the Body" Ventura, is now a fellow at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He's been giving lectures and classes there and holding forth on a variety of issues from the war in Iraq to gay marriage. What a guy!
5FootCarrot
Jesse Ventura lecturing at the JFK School of Government? *snerk* OK yun ha. Of course since he's been in public service for quite a while, siguro naman he has at least a fair grasp on the issues he is tackling.

I must correct you, though; while I think the Body was a great guy, he was already an announcer when I started watching wrestling. I'm not that old, dude! tongue.gif

Shelton Benjamin beat the Game in a great match on RAW last night. Whether the Game idn't take Benjamin seriously or not, Shelton has shown that he is an up and coming force in the wrestling world.

The crowd as cheering him on chanting his name much to the surprise of many (despite Benjamin's newfound arrogance). Even Triple H seemed genuinely surprised that he was getting boos.

Last night's RAW was one of the better ones in a long time. Jericho's trash talking of Trish was vintage Y2J (not since he would degrade Stephanie Mcmahon have we heard this type of banter). Tajiri beating Kane was cool as was Edge's comeback. The tag team match between Chris Benoit and HBK against Evolution was another great match.

If the Rock will make his comeback, then they should develop that dangling plotline about his rivalry with the Nature Boy.

check www.wwe.com.

dapat iniwan na lang nila si triple h sa smackdown para kahit papano may "balance" between the two wwe brands, raw at smackdown...lalo pa ngayon na baka umalis na si brock.
cris gee
Well, actually, Brock's already out. It would have been OK as far as letting the younger stars step up and fill in the void. But guess who's assuming the "Monster Heel" role now? None other than the greatest financial analyst since Irwin R. Schyster...

BRADSHAW! (JR: "Bah Gawd!")

Man, WWE does the right thing by putting the strap on the most over guy in the roster, but screws it up by having him defend it against someone on his 547th gimmick. How can Eddie's title reign have some credibility?

Can't wait to see that. Y2J and the Rock are the best at dissing people. John Cena is an up-and-coming second to those two.

batangnawawala, I always check out WWE.com smile.gif Kailangan talaga or else sobrang mahuhuli tayo sa balita. So I've heard that Brock Lesnar is definitely going out for pro football, and that Shelton Benjamin beat HHH. Buti nga.

Re: Bradshaw, I heard he was trying to play up his financier angle, but not that he's become a heel. (And Irwin R. Shyster! LOL! Matagal ko nang hindi naririnig yung lalaking yan biggrin.gif That guy was an accountant, not a financial analyst, though...) Siya ba yung kaaway ni Eddie? Hmph, well, good luck na lang sa kanilang dalawa.

And as for number of gimmicks, I think Al Snow has the most -- he was Avatar, Leif Cassidy and a whole host of others under his own name. And how about Papa Shango/Kama/the Goddfather/the Good-father? biggrin.gif
drawn2u
i really look forward on watching RAW than Smackdown! ONLY IF John Cena isn't appearing. The man is so cool.

Give me a hell yeah!

Favorite WWE Diva? Stacy Kiebler!!

For more stupid gimmicks, visit WRESTLECRAP!

Dati kumpleto yung archive nila ng bad gimmicks, pero dahil may libro na, mini updates na lang ang meron.

I miss Y2J's name calling days. Remember when he used to call Benoit "Chris BeNOYT" Kurt Angle "Kirk Angel" and Juventud Guerrera "Hoot-en-hoot Guerrero"? Hahahah!

Have you guys seen the return of the Old-school Undertaker? I was a bit disappointed since he didn;t stay faiithful to the original gimmick. He didn't have the pale make-up, pruple gloves and boots, sleeveless shirt, etc. Oh well, I miss kayfabe. I seen somebody write that the New-Old undertaker looks like a Metrosexual Cowboy. Hehehe, maybe he got a visit from the Fab Five.

I can't find the main events of Wrestlemania XX on Kazaa, so im really looking forward to April 5 when it's gonna be shown on Solar. biggrin.gif

Check out RD's Mailbag at Wrestlecrap after reading this week's inductions. Good read. biggrin.gif

Sayang, that site seems to be disabled now. It was a fun read.

Anyhoo, I was just wondering whether Mr. Fuji was still alive huh.gif I don't know if I ever read anything on his death in the WWE website or if I was just hallucinating.

Also, what do y'all think of Eugene? Hee, I think he's cute biggrin.gif
5FootCarrot
All right, I am bumping up this thread so that the ongoing discussion on old-school wrestling can proceed outside the shoutbox.

Out, the Undertaker made his WWE (then known as WWF) debut in 1990. He first appeared in the 1990 Survivor Series with the Million Dollar Man in his corner.

Speaking of Survivor Series, I really enjoyed the eight-man tag team elimination match format, which culminated in a final eight-man match to determine the sole survivor. Unfortunately the 1990 Series was the only one I saw which adhered to that format, and it ended with Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior robbing the fans and deciding not to compete for the "sole survivor" thing anymore dry.gif

I remember in the mid 90s, there was this big "palabas" pitting the WWF characters against a group of NFL players (mostly linebackers). Would anyone remember who made up the teams and how the whole thing ended? I remember the recently retired ex-New York Giant Lawrence Taylor was watching a WWF match ringside and then one of the WWF wrestlers insulted LT or something, which led to the WWF/NFL showdown (Pay-per-view pa ata). On the NFL side, I remember LT and Reggie White were on the lineup. When this whole thing was happening I was in the process of transitioning back from NY to Manila so the whole thing just dropped off my radar.
5FootCarrot
Jaco, the only wrestler-football player thing I really remember was the LT-Bam Bam Bigelow match. I think LT was at ringside, minding his own business, and Bam Bam thought LT was laughing at him. LT beat Bam Bam at WrestleMania XI.

I can't quite remember the WWF-NFL promo thing you mentioned. The closest I could find was Walter Payton accompanying Razor Ramon to the ring at SummerSlam 1994. Perhaps what you saw was just a commercial; something like that would have headlined a pay-per-view if it had ever come to pass.

5FC, That's the one I saw on TV and you descrubed it perfectly. LT was just sitting there enjoying the show and only smiled when Bigelow and the spotlight focused on him. Eventually Bam Bam Bigelow threw a chair at LT and all hell broke loose.

Probably the WWF-NFL confrontation that came out of this LT-Bigelow thing was just something to hype WM XI and never really materialized even if the promoters came up with posters that I fleetingly recall seeing. I might be wrong - they probably used the mug shots of the linebackers and wrestlers to plug WM XI and I thought it was a WWF-NFL smackdown.

Either way, it would have been something to see LT, the Reverend White, Mike Singletary, Howie Long and the other "big boys" of the era go toe to toe with McMahon's (Vince, not Jim) dogs.

wish i could've met carrot several years earlier. ang dami naming pwedeng pag-usapan.

baduy na ang wrestling ngayon. HHH na lang ang pag-asa.
ethanboy
jaco,

aside from the bambam-LT match, i remember an earlier one which i think was a royal rumble type match wherein the chicago bears had a go with some wrestlers... i distinctly remember william "the refrigerator" perry on that one
5FootCarrot
ethanboy, I think The Fridge participated in a battle royal held during one of the early WrestleManias. I only read about that one, though; never saw it for myself. I'll have to check my old magazines for the info.

bluewing, di ko type si HHH. I agree, though, that wrestling has become baduy. Kaya puro old-school wrestling na lang muna ang pinag-uusapan namin dito. Sali ka! smile.gif
bugoy_king
Ako pasali ha.

Corny na nga ang wrestling. Less emphasis na on the wrestling and more on the entertainment side. I usually watch the main events nalang, like the HHH-Orton title match. Even then, baduy ang ending.

HHH is one of the best heels ever, along with the Nature Boy. Sayang talaga at wala na si Hitman. And I wish the old-school Undertaker would come back - may modern twist kasi yung Undertaker ngayon eh, kahit na Dead Man ulit siya.

Just thinking, maybe masama din ang pagka-monopolize ng WWE sa wrestling business. Maganda noong may competition sila ng WCW eh.
bluewing
my favorite heel of all time was THE ROCK. di nya kailangang gumamit ng "comic book / cartoon" gimmick para bumenta. parang natural na natural. there was a time when people were booing the rock (die, rocky, die!) noong N.O.D. pa sya pero chini-cheer ko na sya noon.

na-bad trip nga ako noong naging face sya.

ayoko talga ng mga face. parang mas masay maging heel. with the exception of mick foley whom i adore for sentimental reasons (astig buhay nito), panay heel ang idol ko. from mr. perfect to rick rude to razor ramon to the narcissist to the original n.W.o. to stone cold steve austin to the rock to HHH.

Sali rin ako. smile.gif

I really thought Edge would get a push for the World Heavyweight Title, but it looks like an all-HHH and Orton show. Oh yeah, did you know that HHH is dating Stephanie McMahon, in real life? I wonder, is that why he's always been a main event guy for the past five or six years? Nakakasawa na kasi e. Then again, on RAW, there's no one who can really surpass him yet.

Cena's gonna get that push for the WWE title, I think. They're saving up JBL to get his @$$ handed to him by Cena, maybe next Wrestlemania or sooner. I kinda knew Taker wouldn't beat JBL because that would be too predictable. Besides, Taker's at a point in his career where being the champ doesn't even matter anymore. He's got nothing left to prove. His mere presence is enough for the fans (and for business) already.

Of course, something can happen next week and I could instantly be proven dead wrong. Oh well, fearless forecasts ko lang yun. smile.gif

Mas bagay pa rin sina HHH at Chyna IMO, but last I heard Chyna was engaged to the guy known as X-Pac (Sean Waltman) blink.gif

I don't think HHH is going anywhere for a long while yet, and I agree that Cena is moving on up. JBL's kind of blah, both as a wrestler and as a showman.

Ika nga ni wonderboynastyman once upon a time, si Randy Orton parang hipon - maganda yung katawan nguni't pangit yung ulo. laugh.gif

I, too, see nothing special about him except his last name. At least The Rock didn't rely on his ascendants to become famous. And the Harts let their skills do the talking, too.

the harts are good but i never particularly liked the hitman...

face kasi e.

pero di ko rin masyado type si HBK.

cool entrance music, though...

"i think i'm hot,. i know i'm sexy... i got the looks... that drive the girls wild. i've got the moves... that really move 'em... i send chills... up and down their spines..."

bluewing, hope you weren't dancing while writing that. biggrin.gif

Speaking of HBK, saw a little girl yesterday wearing his "the source of strength" shirt. Cool kid, hehehe.

Tagal ko na rin di nakakapanood ng wrestling, the last match I watched was when Orton won the championship, and it was a helluva boring match.
