personally, i remember this halftime show during a lasalle game a few years ago. ateneo was leading then, halftime show na ng lasalle. ginawa nila `yung usual lasalle spelling nila. may isang erpats na may amats sumigaw nang parang ganito,

"hoy ano ba kayo! ang bagal niyo mag-spelling! after all these years! lasalista nga kayo!"

everyone was laughing hahaha kasi seryoso pa talaga `yung erpats.

Last year, we (hs babble) were cheering at a PAYA game at Xavier. It was Ateneo vs Xavier. Chris Tiu's younger brother was at the line for 2 charities. One of the people in our small yet passionate crowd shouted:

"Mag-aAteneo ka rin balang araw!"

Everyone else from our "crowd" went "woohoooo!"
Tiu, before taking his shot, glances at the crowd and grins.

"Hoy Ref. Halika rito. Magtuos tayo."

More best hirits:

- "Habangbuhay pa rin kayong lasalista!"
- "Ano raw? 'denger denger?'"
- "SU PAL PAL! SU PAL PAL!"

When la salle beat Ateneo, I saw a six year-old kicking and crying at his mom:

"WHY DID WE LET THE BAD MEN WIN MOMMY? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"

Same kid turns up in different games (vs. UST, NU, and UP). He points at a particular player from the opposing team who's practicing before the game starts, and yells at them:

"YOU'RE UGLYYYYYYY!"

- At this dugyutin La Salle player: "Hi Pow-gi!" Sabay haharap yung hamak na lasalista sa crowd at titingin ng masama. Siyempre, galit na naman ang crowd: "ANO TINITINGIN-TINGIN MO DYAN! T@NGINA MO AH! HINDI MO BA ALAM NA PAARALAN KO TO?! IPASOK MO MUNA YUNG BOLA PUNGGOK!"

This is just mean. Pero nakakatawa pa rin nonetheless.

Ito, not from the Ateneo side, galing sa UP, one of their players directed to the family of the same La Sallite. They were cursing from behind the basket when he was attempting free throws and calling him names like squatter:

With matching dagger looks. They stopped jeering, player makes his free throws. He was a mean @#^$&*(*X! when he was playing. Good thing he's coaching for us now.

Kung all time favorites lang, this is the mother of all hirits:

Go La Salle, Go go La Salle, Bo La Salle, Bobo La Salle, Bo La Salle, Bobo La Salle.

It was so simple and went straight to the heart. Lahat yata ng UAAP schools hiniram yan pag kalaban ang La Salle.

I remembered the first round Ateneo - La Salle game of the 1988 UAAP season, pukpukan nag laro, cheers were drowning the RMSC. Cheer ng One Big Fight ang Ateneo gallery, signal ang La Salle pep ng Go La Salle cheer. The legendary babble and comedian Arnie Bohol, who was standing on the railings in front of our section leading the cheers made a pre-hirit: "talagang naghahanap kayo ng sakit ng katawan sa cheer ninyo".

It got so bad that the school had to ban the cheer. Nice try but the beast was already unleashed. It became a staple for other schools' cheers for years to come.

Aba, eh di dapat ginamit rin yan nung Legends at All-Star games!

Mababait na kasi tayo ngayon. I thnk La Salle had to drop the cheer for good. Masyado na silang naapektuhan. I even remembered reading an article in the La Sallian (I was with Guidon and it was a ritual to read through what the other side was writing. Painful.) that their school council came up with a student awareness program aptly named Bring Out the Best in Ourselves (BOBO). To apparently curb the negative rap that the La Salliites were getting with the Bobo La Salle tag that other schools were pinning on them. Ginagamit na ba nila ulit yan? If they are using it again, they're just asking to be pooped on.

Madam, narinig ko ito nung 2001 Ateneo-La Salle finals.

Sadly, totoo yan. Had the same reaction when we first read it. Collective reaction: "What the hell were they thinking when they came up with this?" They were just asking for it.

like bruiser said, it was an ill-advised attempt to change persistent negative perceptions as a result of the "bobo" tag. i was in UP at the time, and my friends reacted incredulously at that new meaning of BOBO. that's when a varsity classmate of ours in soc sci 1, who had earned a reputation as a quick wit, pounced on the situation and said, "that's why they're in DLSU--di lumusot sa UPCAT." i believe he's the first person i heard that joke from, and it has since formed part of UP lore.

Then the immortal cheer which goes like this:

I could still remember overhearing two old(as in muhkang mga batchmate ni raul manglapus) alumni at the patron section watching the DLSU team headed by limpot.

Gentelman 1-" What kind of name is Limpot?? I have never heard any person with a surname of Limpot...have you?"

Gentelman 2-" Only in Lasalle my friend only in Lasalle."

And they both were laughin like crazies.


I could also remember the hirits of the DLRT people back in 1987 when they were calling Nieto (one of our players back then) Punieto Punieto ---everytime he was shooting freethrows.

Back then they only had one cheer---The derecho lasalle cheer

Off topic----Can we please revive our cheer of Animo Ateneo----How the hell did Animo get associated with them when its been with our cheers for sooo long?

other schools have been ripping off our cheers for so long now because they never had a cheering tradition as steeped as that of the ateneo's. perhaps beda is our only worthy counterpart.

Re: Limpot - After one of our all too common losses to La Salle during Zandro's playing years, right after the DLSU hymn I think, some old guy stands up and shouts, "Limpot, **pot ka pa rin!"

Re: Go La Salle cheer - I heard about the BOBO acronym a couple of years back, and my friends and I couldn't believe it either. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Is it really true they don't use this cheer anymore? Wow. This was one of their staples, probably one of their first.

Re: UMD cheer - This was the one that went, "Woooo oooo ooooh!" or something like that. After I heard DLSU do this at a game, I ribbed my DLSU friends about it, and they kept on protesting that they used it first. That was probably true, but UMD was so popular then that they became associated with it. I have not heard DLSU use this cheer again. I'm not sure if they've delibertately stopped using it.

Re: Killer - Now this one was really bad. This was often used by UST when particular DLSU player was talking free throws, back in the years when UST and DLSU were the top teams. They also shout the surname of the victim to add variety.

Mahirap maghanap ng favorite hirit dito sa thread na 'to pero, so far dito ako pinaka na aliw. Kids really say the darndest things.

Re: the Go Lasalle cheer (BOBO)---they still use this cheer, but since all the other schools in the uaap have created their own original cheers---the Go lasalle cheer is now having a revival of sorts---

Re--the UMD cheer--they still use this but they have inserted the words animo Lasalle into it after the whooooh.

back in the 80's when the DLSU had the only cheerdancers with girls in it the hirits were unspeakable! hahaha --- Po* Po* dancers---Bell star dancers---etc
