Calling on the halikinu website manager: please update the podcasts for download. Many of us who cannot listen in on Friday nights would want to hear the broadcasts we missed.

Thanks
Mhel_Garrido
Well last friday's episode was quite hard since Mico and Mark did not want to comment on the eligiility fiasco. Since i am still an eligible bachelor i said ako na bahala. Unfortunately Mico was holding on to me. Kaya panay pasaring na lang ang binanat namin gaya ng Mister Suwabe etc..

Well lets just wait what happens to their "alleged Investigation!"

It was 08:54pm. I was leisurely browsing Atenista.net when I saw this thread, "Halikinu Radio Season 2". A split-second later, curses of all colors flew into the air: it'll be another episode of Halikinu Radio in a few minutes, and I almost forgot about it. Immediately, I searched for an FM-capable radio and brought it up my room. Everything was set when...

I realized I was in the province. Hindi abot ang NU107 dito! ohmy.gif

If the three would be guesting tonight, I hope halikinu.com would upload the podcasts sad.gif (Shame. I've been waiting for this episode.)

^I read the message a bit too late. When I tried, Media Player claims that the file could not be accessed. huh.gif

Thank you anyway. smile.gif

whistling hyde, I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but last night's episode featured the three "Red Bull-ue Eagles," Rico, Bugs and Larry.

It was a very entertaining episode and the three guys are very well-spoken, especially Bugs. smile.gif Halatang sanay na sa media. Great to hear from them again!

Just heard that Jasmine Payo and - gasp - Tommy Manotoc will reportedly appear on Halikinu Radio to discuss the La Salle eligibility thing. Sounds interesting.

That's right, sorry about the mistake. I had actually noticed that my post was wrong last night, but I was already offline by then. unsure.gif

To anyone who listened to the show last night, please update those of us who weren't able to do so (and can't listen to the podcast)...pretty please?

the show last night was good. main points by TJ and jasmine were:

1. this took everyone by surprise, as even within the media, there was no inkling of this news.

2. there is a criminal liability on falsification of documents, which is punishable by jail. at this point of discovery and confirmation, DLSU should have brought in the proper authorities to investigate. three parties may ask the NBI to investigate:

- DLSU, being a victim of the scam;
- the concerned players, being a victim of the fake documents; and
- the UAAP board, being the aggrieved party as a result of this scam.

the NBI HAS BEEN WAITING FOR A CALL/COMPLAINT AS THEY CANNOT INITIATE ANY INVESTIGATION ON THEIR OWN, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO CALL MADE.

3. although both reporters believe DLSU has sincerely exhausted the means to get to the bottom of this, their investigation is at a cross road. salgado and lacson have been fingered by the two players. both salgado and lacson have gone on record to deny their involvement. what do you do now ? it is a case of one person's claim vs. another.

4. if it had been pursued in light of a criminal offense, then it sould have been handled entirely different, not one opinion vs. another. The moment the false documents were confirmed, DLSU should have come forward with their discovery and expelled the said parties; asked the NBI to step in and investigate, as the NBI has the expertise and DLSU does not. (my opinion: DLSU would have then been successful as taking the high road and coming out the victim, if this were done right away.) the fact that they didn't only adds more questions.

5. The adamson case cannot isn't the same, because although there was complicity, the document falsified was the school transcript, which is not a public record, thus it is not a public crime. the falsification of public documents is a public crime, which potentially makes this case even worse.

for those that were tuned in, please feel free to correct if i missed out anything.

last night's episode was far and away the best halikinu show in its two seasons on air.

PDI's jasmine payo, of class 2000, and TJ manotoc, who guested via phone patch, gave us the lowdown of how the la salle scandal impacted not only the school but the entire league and, in a way, our educational and government institutions.

ms. payo was fair in her assessment that awoo lacson and manny salgado were identified because it is likely they were the names that were brought up most frequently by those invited for questioning, while hinting that the report could have been more explicit in tracing the motivations behind the document tampering. for his part, TJ manotoc hit the nail on the head when he explained how and why falsification of public documents is a crime against the state, and that la salle officials should have alerted the proper authorities the moment the falsified PEPTCR results were discovered. that they didn't treat this as such was the start of all the problems they are in.

it was a lively give and take session, and it made sense of all that's become of this cause celebre. they both admit, though, that they were just as taken by surprise as the general public when this exploded.

edited to add: i just remembered that TJ took pains to recount the circumstances behind his dad's now-famous "win at all costs" column. first, he said his dad wrote that piece way before the issue broke out, which means it was inspired not by the news that a DLSU varsity player was found to have fraudulent PEPTCR results but rather by something broader and more abstract--that is, the cut-throat competition that has come to describe college basketball and how money contributed in eroding the values a school stands for. second, he said tommy sr. sent the column to his editor at philippine star practically for the heck of it, kumbaga basta mailabas na, not knowing that its focal message prefigured all that is wrong about the scandal. talk about doing a rene mariano.

According to Jasmine the coaching staff of DLSU will remain.
Considering that it all emanated from their desire to win at all costs i believe that
revamping their coaching staff will be a start.

What i believe is also quite important and at the same time wasnt talked about was
their other athletes from other sports. DLSU is a school that prides itself with a good
athletics program and their strength lies on their recruitment. They produced womens
basketball, volleyball and other champions, i am quite uneasy coz i believe that
there might be a similar incident in those sports.

Anyway, for DLSU, i believe that their top Juniors player will be joining the seniors team
which will most probably sit out next year. (If the UAAP gives them a sanction)
But their Juniors squad wont be that problematic to go back to back since there are
speculations that Mark and Tim will most probably play in their HS Squad! Good Luck! cool.gif

I really enjoyed Halikinu's last episode for the season smile.gif Of course, it would have been nice to send LA, Magnum and Bajjie off with a championship trophy (hindi yung trophy ng Lady Eagles ha), but in the absence of that, the guesting on the show was a nice way to say goodbye. It was really nice of Magnum and the boys' former teammates to send messages, even the funny ones, hehe.

And it was really nice that Fr. Nemy has made it known that anyone's welcome to go to the Ateneo and check out our boys' papers! biggrin.gif

On the whole, I'd say it was another good season for Halikinu Radio. I still preferred the Monday night timeslot, though. Judging from the messages read on air it seemed like there were still many people listening even though Friday is usually a gimmick/date night, but Monday still seemed better IMO. Just sayin'.
