Full Version: IDEAS for NEW Ateneo Cheers!
Welcome to Atenista.Net! > Sports and Athletics > The Bleachers
Saint
I have a great respect for our classic cheers
and anthems such as Blue Eagle the King,Hail!
Ateneo!Hail!,Halikinu,Fabilioh...the list
goes on.I take pride in them and I treasure
them, being an Atenean for 13 wonderful years.

But don't you think it's time we created new
cheers? I mean, our classics had to start
somewhere didn't they?

I was at the game last Saturday.Nothing beats
a classic Ateneo-La Salle match.And nothing
is more fulfilling than screaming ONE BIG
FIGHT! at the top of one's lungs while
watching a stunned,silent,and intimidated
La Salle gallery.

I talked with my friends from DLSU after the game.I asked them which of our cheers
intimidate them the most.Their answer was
unanimous: ONE BIG FIGHT!

Now,what is it about ONE BIG FIGHT! that
scares the hell out of the green side?
-> It's the cheer we scream the LOUDEST.

Why is it our LOUDEST cheer?
-> It's the easiest one to cheer.

Why is it the easiest one to cheer?
-> It's only made up of three words/three
syllables.

Simple cheers are not the products of
laziness...if created in a certain way.
Despite its brevity,it gets its point
across. It taunts and intimidates the enemy
as well as it inspires the team.

ONE BIG FIGHT! is a great example of the
cheers I'd like our community to create.
Its composed of three simple words which
mean a whole lot to us and its powers of
intimidation has not faded over the years.
It has become a CLASSIC.

I don't wish to undermine the value of our
classic cheers.I simply believe that we must
continue to build great new traditions beside
our old,glorious ones.

Ideas? Anyone? biggrin.gif
Ateneo Pride
iF you didn't notice, we already have 1 new cheer that we've been using since the start of the season. We've been using an ALTERNATE defense cheer.Like anything new, it has to be noticed, learned and then appreciated.

Our powerful "Go Ateneo" took 3 whole years before becoming a staple cheer.

Also, we've already completed a 2nd new cheer but haven't introduced it yet---

It's called "Fly Blue Eagle".A very peppy, upbeat pump-you-up type of cheer.

Who wants to hear it? smile.gif

i can't think of any new cheering ideas right now but i can probably propose a few ground rules worth considering before we even begin to write any new stuff:

1. nothing generic. nothing that sounds like it was inspired by "bring it on" or any number of trendy late-90s cheerleader movies.

2. no ripping off of any national anthems. ever again. even if it's some small obscure country no one has ever heard of.

3. must be chanted. drums or claps must not do all the work. we like to think of ourselves as literate people, so let's act like it. also helps build audience participation. there is nothing more pathetic in my mind than having a band do all the heavy lifting for us. everyone has a voice, ergo, everyone must cheer.

4. no nonsense words. kids today probably won't relate. and, we have enough nonsense-word cheers already. in their defense, however, nonsense cheers are pretty useful in preserving a sense of identity and even mystery about ateneo cheering. but we don't need any more new ones.

5. VERY IMPORTANT: reclaim cheers or drum patterns that have lapsed in usage and been claimed by other schools. "animo ateneo" is a traditional war cry, but now everyone seems to associate "animo" with la salle. (some of them even call it "the animo spirit," ha ha, which goes to show they don't have the slightest idea). this is a great historical crime which must be corrected at once.

i have also heard the eight-beat filched by a la salle band during a badminton tournament, but they have not formally played it in games, fortunately. in fairness, the band was from zobel, so maybe they weren't as clued in about the secret gang codes as the taft guys.

on aug 9, the ateneo crowd also executed that old "clap, clap-CLAP, clap clap clap-CLAP FIGHT!" pattern during the ateneo-la salle game and some in the la salle crowd were screaming gaya gaya, as if we had actually stolen their "go, la salle, go go la salle" chant instead of the other way around.

6. experiment with trumpet and yell combinations. letran has a very slick one involving a trumpet fanfare and three "arriba letrans" which just blows my mind. may be some constraints though because good brass players are an endangered species nowadays

7. more droning fight songs of the "ateneo go and fight" variety. lots of vowel sounds, usually involving the letter 'o', which are simple, catchy and can be prolonged for effect.

the ideal i'm aiming for here is the feel of a rugby stadium with "swing low sweet chariot/comin for to carry me home" rolling down from the cheap seats. closer to home, the industry standard for local college basketball would be san beda's "indian yell" -- all tribal drums and warrior chanting and little fat boys in indian costume that you have to hear at least once in your life, if you want to see how it's done.

these are the benchmarks to shoot for.

New cheer for the Ateneo at the end of a game, especially when we lose...

Just like they do at Harvard,

Shout in unison:

"IT'S ALRIGHT

IT'S OKAY

YOU'LL WORK FOR US

SOMEDAY"

Repeat 3x.

mahirap gumawa ng bagong cheer, mas mahirap i-establish. we're talking about generations of ateneans here.

it's good that they're bringing back the brass band, and they should be considered in composing new cheers. heck, they can't play "ateneo, ateneo, o-o-o, go and fight" forever. 'di pa nga 'ata kaya yung "roll up the victory", "mary for you", at yung fly blue eagle song (oops, hindi alam ang title). which reminds me, bakit hindi siya kinanta nung ateneo-la salle game? ang saya sana kung kinanta.

a friend from u.p. told me that our cheers sound monotonous, puro tak-tak-tak lang daw, kaya hindi ma-distinguish ang isang cheer from another, lalo na ng mga taga-ibang schools.

at wala tayong "kick-ass" cheer, yung tipong "unibersidad" ng u.p. ok yung sa harvard, pero narinig ko na 'ata yun sa "bring it on."

best of luck sa cheering competition, bbb.
mrindakid
ya!!! lets make new cheers... the cheer of up ROCKS!!! yung U-NI-BER-SI-DAD NG PI-LI-PI-NAS!!! i mean whenever our block hears that song we do the sprite dance (you know the one sa commmercial... yung sumayaw yung isa tas sumayaw na lahat)... tas that yung its all right its ok youll all work for us someday haha that totally made me laugh as in!!! actully mas maangas drums ng DLSU squad compared sa bluebabblebatallion no offense... i mean yung lets go archers lets go... it sounds basic.. but wid d drum its really nice... ok din yung cheer nila na may D (form a triangle with your hands)... L(form two L's with your hands)... S (make two letter C's and connect them)... U(connect the two L's pero all the fingers are up)... ANIMO LASALLE... i mean that cheer rocks too... tayo... gusto ko lang yung ATENEO train... YUNG A rah rah rah T rah rah rah E rah N rah E rah rah rah Ooooooooooooo FASTER NOW!!!!!!!!!!! hehe
Ateneo Pride
Pare I beg to disagree. Our band right now has got to be the most talented drummers in the entire UAAP.Not only are the band members the most technically knowledgeable drummers but the most skilled ones at that.

We just totally outdrummed DLSU last Saturday. We could even confirm that their own pep squad felt the thunder of our bass drums.

Mas astig tayo.Quantifiably and qualifiably so.
wingspread
it's not really a matter of talent and/or skill, but it's more of the diversity and uniqueness of the drum beats and the cheers themselves.

regarding the bbb band, of course they're the best compared to the other school bands. they're the loudest, and i mean LOUD! and they're fast to react/shift cheers during a game, from "*clap-clap-clap* fight" to "get that ball" to "ateneo o-o-o go and fight" and back again. yung sa iba kasi, nawawala/nalilito sa pag-drums. meron ding tumitigil ang ibang drummers right in the middle of a cheer pag napapagod.

the "locomotive" tops my list for ateneo cheers ---> it has got to be the best opening cheer for any game, right before the "go ateneo" beat. ang ganda pakinggan ng pagpasok ng drums habang pabilis nang pabilis yung tempo, ok pang build-up ng excitement. "let's go archers, let's go" is very similar to "hey, u.p. go, u.p. fight, hey let's go and fight" in terms of the beat. and yung "u-ni-ber-si-dad...", ano pa ba ang masasabi ko? wala akong kilala na hindi alam ang cheer na yun, kahit hindi taga-u.p.

there's a similar thread about ateneo cheers somewhere near this one. may mga cheers and songs na gusto ibalik ng alumni. one was even in spanish, "fundador" 'ata ang title. check it out.

and about that new cheer, when can we hear it? try niyo siguro sa second round ng games.

"Fundador" is not a cheer. It's a song and it's usually sung at mass.

thanks for the clarification.

I agree that that the locomotive cheer has found its rightful place, especially as it builds up into the Go Ateneo drum beat. It get's everyone jumping on his feet.

My least desirable cheers are the Boom Chika Boom cheer (artillery yell ba yun?) and Fight A, Fight T... The various generations of alumni cannot relate well to those.

Now does the 8-beat really lead to an Ateneo Go and Fight chant? The crowd gets confused with that sometimes. It is always best to start the Ateneo Go and Fight chant with the blaring of trumpets for the intro. But alas, we don't have trumpets. Sigh.

we cheer to inspire our team but let's not
forget that we cheer to INTIMIDATE as well.
cheering affects both the home team, the
opponent, and their respective crowds on the
psychological level.we must cheer to
taunt, discourage, and, yes,to TERRIFY and PETRIFY the "ENEMY".

no dirty language of course.we ARE educated
and civilized people after all.

i'm sure you've all heard DLSU's BEAT ATENEO!
ANIMO LA SALLE! cheer.now there's a good
example.i don't know if you'll all agree with me but i find that cheer extremely
discouraging and intimidating.i feel really
shaken whenever i hear it during the games.

i'm sorry to say that i don't particularly
like the BOOM CHIKA BOOM cheer.the one with
the TARGET (opponent school) thingy.i don't
know how else to put it...it's such a bland
nonesense cheer.i'm inferring from the fact
that it's targetting the opponent school
that it's supposed to be an intimidating
cheer.well,it's not.it has no intimidation
factor at all.

How about cheers based on philo professors' favorite expressions? That would be the ultimate private joke.

la salle has that cheer, except that that they use archer instead of eagle.

ONE BIG FIGHT!!!

ANIMO ATENEO!!!

i reall like the cheer..A rah rah rah T rah rah rah E rah N rah E rah rah rah Oooooooo..tama ba? haha! pero sana mabilis. ang cute ng isang babble pag kinakanta nya yun..i agree ang ganda ng sa UP. biggrin.gif
Saint
Yes,all those cheers rock...UP's and La Salle's. wink.gif

But the thing is...THEY'RE NOT OURS.

That's why I started this thread.I am so
sick of hearing myself and other fellow
Ateneans raving about other schools' catchy
cheers and one-liners while our own school
lacks catchy one-liners and cheers with the
astig/intimidation factor.

ONE BIG FIGHT! is the cheer I'm most proud
of.It's catchy.It's intimidating.It's brief
but it get's the point across.

The Locomotive cheer is fast becoming a
staple in the Ateneo gallery. The building-up
to GO ATENEO! is like a shot of espresso. It
gives the crowd the jolt it needs to stand up
and scream.

Any cheer with FIGHT! or GO! is a staple in
any given schools' cheer list. It's catchy but
it's too generic.Thank God we've given our
unique touch to it (the clapping before the
beating of the drums).

Oh,and one last thing.Let's not forget our
non-Atenean fans.Believe me,there are hordes
of them present during our big games. We
can't expect them to have a feel for Halikinu
or Fabilioh or our Alma Mater Song. They can
do ONE BIG FIGHT!,GO ATENEO!,and clap-clap
clap-clap FIGHT! but aside from those, the
variation cheers,and waving their banners,
there's little else we can expect them to do.
By creating cheers and one-liners which the
WHOLE ATENEO GALLERY (Ateneans and non-
Ateneans)can absorb easily,the more people
we can expect to yell their lungs out.

Result? A LOUDER,MORE ENERGETIC,and MORE
INTIMIDATING ATENEO GALLERY.

Keep those ideas coming! biggrin.gif

hey guys... hmm... interesting topic... la lang... have you guys seen the movie "Remeber the Titans"? there's a cool cheer there... we can change the titans to eagles so it'll go like this:

everywhere we go (everywhere we go)
people wanna know (people wanna know)
who we are (who we are)
so, we tell them (so we tell them)
WE ARE THE EAGLES! (WE ARE THE EAGLES!)
THE MIGHTY, MIGHTY EAGLES! (THE MIGHTY, MIGHTY EAGLES!)

la lang... kaya lang walang originality na if we use it... smile.gif

i suggest you ask some icans.
we have a pile up of cheers from our intramurals that can be easily used.

the artillery yell (boom chika boom) isnt intimidating at all.

"BEAT ATENEO! ANIMO LA SALLE!" now that's intimidating. when the green gallery chants this one, matindi talaga. we need something like this.

we've had the oldies: the classics; or the "express" (that's what the bbb calls it): halikinu, fabilioh, three fights, blue eagle spelling. we also have new cheers: the locomotive, rhumba yell (ateneo fight), and artillery yell. ateneo fight took years just for it to be cheered normally because it sounded like the old ones.

if we have to make a new cheer, make it short and intimidating. like the "beat ateneo, animo la salle" thing.
Out_of_the_Blue
There's a new cheer heard in the game against DLSU last Saturday. It chanted, "go Ateneo, One Big Fight!" then a flurry of drums take off. This is repeated at least 3 or 4 times before continuing with the usual "Go Ateneo!" chant and drum beat.

It sounds ok but not that spectacular. I was expecting something new and better.

yung artillery yell kaya walang dating, kasi ang hirap i-cheer...

actually, rhumba yell is an old cheer... used to cheer it when I was in college 10 years ago...

tama... a lot has changed since I was in the band when I was in college... girls, throwers, ateneo winning... maybe there should be more cheers... pero I'm sure it would take time to pick up... suggest start with "short stabbing cheers" like one big fight... yung tipong three words or less... more bass than snare... pang pump up! ewan... baka I'm getting old... di na nga ako makasali sa alumni brass... bitin na ang hinga... I'll try again next game!

how about singing "mr. suave" when we play la salle?

I have a suggestion for the final4 halftime cheering.

If we do end up playing DLRT, let some BBB members make a mockery of their fashion statement by sporting knee-high black socks, bright red polo shirts, and fake bigotes while dancing to the tune of "Mr. Suave" (the lyrics of which would be replaced with the ones appearing in the "Ako si Mr. Suave" thread of this forum.)

this is not really an idea for a new ateneo cheer pero a suggestion sa cheerdancers...

if you want fresh ideas for stunts to use sa halftime or sa cheerdance competition... try watching the japan cup cheering competition... grabe! this people take their cheering seriously talaga. galing ng stunts and most of it i havent seen here pa in the philippines. amazing lang!!! dont know though where you can find copies of the competition, na-tsa,bahan lang kasi namin ng cousins ko sa nhk one boring night...
wingspread
ria jose: kelan mo napanood yung japan cheerleading cup? sayang!

may napanood din ako sa isang malaysian channel on cable, cheerleading competition din. sa totoo lang, the so-called "style" of philippine cheerleading (at least for up and their followers) really sucks big time compared to other squads in asia. pamatay yung routines and stunts ng mga taga-malaysia.

oo nga pala, the ateneo bbb is the top squad in the araneta center 'per up your pep squad' thing, around 1000 points ahead of up.
ria jose
coincidentally, we watched the japan cup competition, the night after the uaap cheering competition. one of the things that was common among the teams was the way they would elevate their ppl... sa atin kasi, we let the person climb over the other ppl, dunsa japan, somebody sa baba (a lifter/spotter) would hold the girl somewhere sa may calf tapos ihahagis siya pataas tapos sasaluin nung mga ppl who are supposed to be holding her up... mahirap i-explain, mukhang mas mahirap gawin... pero it makes things easier and faster to do.

good luck sa bbb next year and good job this year!!! smile.gif

From www.ateneo.edu and the 2005 Ateneo executive planner:

Ateneo Songs And Cheers

The Ateneo’s success in athletics was renowned even before the NCAA began. Intense games were fought before rather disorganized and rambunctious Atenean spectators. To help cheer the Ateneo squad on, the Jesuits decided that the Ateneo ought to have some sort of organization in its cheering. As a result of their effort, the Ateneo introduced organized cheering to the country by fielding the first-ever cheering squad in the Philippines.

The Ateneo was a proud pioneer. There were even arguments about how the Ateneo’s brand of cheering is both unique and rooted in classical antiquity. In the 1959 Ateneo Aegis, Art Borjal argues:

“It all started about 2,000 years ago along the Via Appia in Rome. The deafening cheers of Roman citizens, lined along the way, thundered in the sky as the returning victorious warriors passed by…The type of cheering that the Ateneo introduced was, in a way, quite different from that of the Romans. When the warriors came home in defeat, the citizens shouted in derision and screamed for the soldiers’ blood. To the Atenean, victory and defeat do not matter much. To cheer for a losing team that had fought fairly and well is as noble, if not nobler, than cheering for a victorious squad.”

The words of some of the cheers seem incomprehensible or derived from an exotic tongue. Loud, rapid yells of “fabilioh” and “halikinu” mean to rally the team and to intimidate and confuse the enemy gallery. Meanwhile, fighting songs help inspire the team, and to “roll out the victory.” The united crowd, a Blue Babble Battalion, enlivens the team “under banners of white and fair blue.”

The Songs
The moment of battle; the keenness of the struggle; the steeled spirit of fighting men; the Christian tradition of chivalry; the deeply learned code of sportsmanship; the indomitable will to give your all for the old Alma Mater -- in victory, a triumphant cry; in defeat, a salute to the victors; the militant voices of Christian men. That is the Atenean's song: caught on his lips, quivering and strong, from his heart...

Hail! Ateneo Hail!
(Words [modified] and music from the "Fordham Ram,"
Fordham University, N.Y. City)

Oh, Hail Ateneo Hail!
On to the fray,
Once more our foes assail
In strong array
Once more the Blue and White
Wave on high
And sing our battle song,
We do or die!

March on, march on, march on to victory
March on, march on, march on with loyalty
To the fight! To the fight!
To win our laurels bright!
(repeat first verse)

Blue Eagle The King
(Words and Music by Raul S. Manglapus, AB '39.
Words and lyrics adopted by an American university, Brown University
for their own use.)

Fly high!
Blue Eagle fly
And carry our cry
Across the sky!
Cast your shadow below
Swoop down on the foe,
Then sweep up the field away!

Fly high!
Over the trees
Make known to the breeze
Our victories!
Spread wide each wing
For you are the King
Blue Eagle the King!

Oh the Eagle's the King of them all
And his blue feathers never will fall
For the Blue and the White
And the Eagle's in flight
Ateneo will fight today!

(repeat second verse)

Cheer, Cheer and Go
(Words and Music by Lamberto V. Avellana, AB '37)

Cheer, Cheer and Go!
With heart and hand our loyal band
Will battle through!
Team, forward, Team
We'll lift our cry up to the sky
And we will thunder
RAH - RAH!
Onward and smile
We'll sing the while
Ateneo-- Go! We'll fight for victory
We'll cheer till the battle's done!
RAH... RAH... RAH...
RAH... RAH... RAH...
RAH... RAH...
RAH... RAH... RAH...
(repeat)

Battle Song
(Tune: Vagabond Song: Words by Fr. Horacio dela Costa, S.J.)

Come on -- you comrades in joyous war,
You singing sons of the White and Blue --
You sons of the White and Blue!
With voices undimmed and far
We will cheer our knighthood the battle through
We'll cheer 'em the battle through
You and I -- with all our hearts a beating high
And our cry is Victory!

chrous: Wake your battle spirit,
Into flaming stir it --
Warriors of the Blue and White!
On the scrolls of glory
Write the laurelled story
Of this triumph, men of might!
Sweep through; crash through,
Push resistless on...
Fighting, Fighting,
till the field is won
To our singing thunder,
Smash the foe asunder -- victory for Blue and White!

Ateneo Victory Song
(Tune: Battle Hymn of The Republic)

Roll out the victory we ask for nothing more Yea
Roll out the victory we ask for nothing more Yea
Roll out the victory we ask for nothing more Yea
Roll out the victory we ask for nothing more Yea
Go old Blue and White!

Ateneo de Manila... YEA!
Ateneo de Manila... YEA!
Ateneo de Manila,
Ye good old Blue and White!

(repeat whole song)

The Ateneo Cadet Corps March
(Tune: United States Field Artillery March
Words modified from Boston College High School March)

With a shout, with a song
We will help the boys along,
Under banners of White and fair Blue.
While we do, while we dare,
Proudly waving everywhere
Are the banners of White and fair Blue...

For it's go go...
Ateneo go,
Hearts always loyal and true
With the right our trust,
Strive and fight we must
Under banners of White and fair Blue...
Under banners of White and fair Blue...

(repeat whole song)

The Hoiah
(Words [modified] and Music from "The Hoiah,"
Holy Cross College, Worcester, Massachusetts)

Give another Hoiah,
And a Choo-Choo-Rah-Rah,
Choo-Choo-Rah-Rah,
Rah-Rah-Rahh-Rah!
Give another Hoiah,
And a Choo-Choo-Rah-Rah,
Choo-Choo-Rah-Rah,
For Blue and White...
March on as knights of old
With hearts as loyal and true and bold--
Go fight the bitter fight,
With all your might--
Fight hard for Blue and White--
Rah-Rah-Rah...
You know when the battle's done,
So fight the bitter fight,
With all your might--
Fight hard for Blue and White!

The Yells
As the measures of song fade, there is a pause. Then rises a steady ringing chant... The Blue Babble Battalion speaks with its teams -- Words of encouragement; commands to push forward; the signal to rally; and, at last, one strong, loud cry of triumph. That is the familiar, the vibrant, the encouraging, Atenean's cheer; the proud constancy of unwavering support, fighting every inch of play...

-----------------------------

Methinks we ought to revive the No Name Yell, Victory Yell, and Animo Ateneo.
siops
BRING BACK ANIMO ATENEO! WE STARTED THE ANIMO SPIRIT AND WE SHOULD REJUVENATE IT ESPECIALLY AGAINST DLRT, SHOW THEM WHO TRULY OWNS THE ANIMO TRADITION!!!

JUST A SUGGESTION:

SInce the Ateneo is once an NCAA founder i think it would be great to incorporate "School-Acronym Spell- Trademark Cheer" Like that of C-S-J-L Arriba Letran, or the M-I-T Fight Viva Mapua well as for us it would go like this:

BBB: A-D-M-U!
6TH MAN: A-D-M-U!
BBB: READY! 1-2!
A-
D-
M-
U-
A-D-M-U ANIMO ATENEO!!!
CLAP- CLAP-, CLAP CLAP, CLAP-CLAP.. A!
CLAP- CLAP-, CLAP CLAP, CLAP-CLAP.. D!
CLAP- CLAP-, CLAP CLAP, CLAP-CLAP.. M!
CLAP- CLAP-, CLAP CLAP, CLAP-CLAP.. U!
A-
D-
M-
U-
A-D-M-U ANIMO ATENEO!!!

I guess this would be a cool way of bringing back the true animo spirit and a good way of instilling it as the Ateneo way! And since the Blu Babble Brass Band is about to be formed, they could form great accompaniments/intro to this cheer to pump up the crowd!!!

Just a suggestion guys... watch some of the ncaa games and see how it is cheered, after all, the Ateneo once founded the NCAA, Cheering and the true ANIMO SPIRIT!

ANIMO ATENEO!!! ONE BIG FIGHT!!!

I have a great respect for our classic cheers
and anthems such as Blue Eagle the King,Hail!
Ateneo!Hail!,Halikinu,Fabilioh...the list
goes on.I take pride in them and I treasure
them, being an Atenean for 13 wonderful years.

But don't you think it's time we created new
cheers? I mean, our classics had to start
somewhere didn't they?

I was at the game last Saturday.Nothing beats
a classic Ateneo-La Salle match.And nothing
is more fulfilling than screaming ONE BIG
FIGHT! at the top of one's lungs while
watching a stunned,silent,and intimidated
La Salle gallery.

I talked with my friends from DLSU after the game.I asked them which of our cheers
intimidate them the most.Their answer was
unanimous: ONE BIG FIGHT!

Now,what is it about ONE BIG FIGHT! that
scares the hell out of the green side?
-> It's the cheer we scream the LOUDEST.

Why is it our LOUDEST cheer?
-> It's the easiest one to cheer.

Why is it the easiest one to cheer?
-> It's only made up of three words/three
syllables.

Simple cheers are not the products of
laziness...if created in a certain way.
Despite its brevity,it gets its point
across. It taunts and intimidates the enemy
as well as it inspires the team.

ONE BIG FIGHT! is a great example of the
cheers I'd like our community to create.
Its composed of three simple words which
mean a whole lot to us and its powers of
intimidation has not faded over the years.
It has become a CLASSIC.

I don't wish to undermine the value of our
classic cheers.I simply believe that we must
continue to build great new traditions beside
our old,glorious ones.

Ideas? Anyone? biggrin.gif

STOP IT!! ATENEO IS TOO CLASSIC FOR YOU TO MESS WITH... HAVING TOO MANY CHANGES WOULD CHEAPEN THE WHOLE THING... IT'LL LOOK PILIT OR PIRATED...
I DIDNT EVEN LIKE IT WHEN THEY ADDED GIRLS TO THE BBB... IM NOT A SEXIST... ITS JUSTNOTTHE WAY ITS DONE... Look at the BBB now, the girls look like tomboys (sorry, but its true, i know everybody thinks it too) Our cheering squad is kulelat, and they get humiliated every year. Pinipilit kasi lumaban sa UP, UST, and DLSU eh. We should just stick to where we excel. OR if ipipilit talaga, make sure it will be the best among the rest first before you set it out... Or else nakakasira ... Sorry kung kontra-pelo, Im just being honest
Basta, BADUY kung ipilit gumawa ng bagong cheers... Hindi tayo si Manglapus! Wag mag-feeling!

Don't you believe in the saying "There's nothing permanent in this world other than change."? biggrin.gif
Change is a part of life.. and it won't hurt to go with the flow of changing,
especially if it's certainly for the better.. tongue.gif
Everything deserves improvement, since nothing is perfect, not even the word.. laugh.gif
And if you really want the BBB soar on top, or mainly excellence in any field,
you should be open to changes, or at least to suggestions for modification..
Adjust with the present situation, without sacrificing the essence of what your goal really is..
And you'll get more, and nothing less than what you can have
if you would just stick to the plainness of the current status.. smile.gif

Anyway, here's an idea..
Nothing much exciting without the melody I have in mind.. biggrin.gif
A-T-E-N-E, A-T-E-N-E-Ooohhh..
Go Ateneo, keep low and slow.. Go!
Go Ateneo, heat up the show.. Go!
Go Ateneo, conquer the foe.. Go!
Let our spirits grow, we don't quit so! No!
However it ends, However it ends,
However it ends, we win, we know! Go!
A-T-E-N-E, A-T-E-N-E-Ooohhh..

honestly, yah i agree with you all. We really do need new cheers. but it's really hard to make gud ones that can intimidate the enemy and at the same time encourage our players. so far the only thing that works and gets the audience(both ateneans and non ateneans) to cheer with us is when you use the classic ATENEO clap clap clap clap clap ATENEO repeatedly. It' too bad that it would seem to childish to use the U-WIAN NA thing...hehe...that would really intimidate the enemy, but you really can't use this cheer without giving the impression that mayabang ang ateneo so i highly discourage it.
atenean_blooded
I don't get it. So many people want new cheers introduced, but they can't even get the current cheers and fight songs down pat.

Oh, and for those of you who think ANIMO LA SALLE BEAT ATENEO is intimidating, I'll be happy to report that a simple one word cheer has usually killed it:

"BOBO BOBO BOBO BOBO BOBO BOBO BOBO BOBO"

That, and other variations of "Suspended" have also been successful.
