Pare, kuha ka ng magic sa New York tapos dalhin mo sa Rizal ha? Ipasa mo sa amin! Hope that magic brings us to the UAAP Finals. smile.gif

Damn! Yankees lost, 3-2! Sayang! They just couldn't get the big hit. Soriano struck out with runners on 1st and 2nd. That pickoff play by Pudge was huge.

Ateneo stuns defending champion UP
Jan. 09, 2005

A shocking surprise-nothing more, nothing less-in the opening of the 67th UAAP baseball tournament on Sunday as the Ateneo De Manila University stunned defending champion University of the Philippines, 9-7, at the Rizal Memorial Diamond.
Julius Caesar Visaya, a right-handed pitcher, carved out the upset with his remarkable nine innings to frustrate the reigning titlist under the coaching of long time mentor Emerson Baranco.

Besides his unexpected feat, Ateneo surprised UP with three runs, two-hit attack right in the first inning and set the tone for one of the historic upsets in this year's tournament.

"Visaya set our confidence well, he pitched well and refused to surrender to UP's pressure game," said Ateneo Coach Alex Estipular. "This is a good start for us and very inspiring so I hope we maintain this kind of game," he added.

UP, which won the title last year at the expense of UST, tried to stop Ateneo's momentum but the Maroons couldn't halt Visaya's impeccable feat where he stopped three of the last four of UP batters to complete the sweet victory.

Adding to UP's off-form performances were its 11 errors while its pitcher, Randy de Leon, surrendered 14 hits to the team who ended last year in the cellar with just a single win in two rounds.

"We didn't play good baseball out there. It's quite disappointing," said UP mentor Emerson Baranco. "We have to review this game and we would not allow another upset by our next opponent," he added.

From The Manila Bulletin:
Ateneo batters shock UP

Ateneo scored a shocking upset at the start of the UAAP baseball tournament yesterday when it brought down defending champion University of the Philippines, 9-7, at the Rizal Memorial diamond.

Julius Cesar Visaya, a right-handed hurler from Canlubang, lit up the stadium with a no-relief, nine-inning performance against the heavy favorite Maroons to signal the rebirth of team which last year languished in the cellar with just a single win in two rounds.

"Upset of the decade. I couldn’t believe it. It was really shocking," said National University’s Arlen P. Royo, who is in charge of running the tournament.

."Parang champion ang Ateneo sa panalo. Imagine, they beat no less than the defending champion. I was really surprised, " Royo said.

"This is a good start. Very inspiring. Visaya pitched well. He refused to give up under pressure," said Ateneo coach Alex Estipular.

UP, which won the title last year at the expense of UST, tried to stop the inevitable, but the Maroons couldn’t rattle the resilient Visaya who retired three of the last four UP batters to complete the victory.

Adding to UP’s demise were 11 errors while its pitcher, Randy de Leon, surrendered 14 hits.

"We didn’t play good baseball out there. It’s quite disappointing," said UP mentor Emerson Baranco.

Hmmm...do you think it's too late to get the Ateneo baseball team some red socks and adopt the slogan "Why not us?" or "Keep the Faith"?

Congrats, boys. Keep 'em flying.

Our boys won their final game against Adamson 10-6. With this win we have a 3-7 record same as Adamson. Since we beat Adamson by 4 and they only beat us by 1pt we end up getting 4th place this season. Our best place finish in the last 4 years. We were in fifth place 2 years ago, sixth last year and fourth this year. Watch out for our team next season! smile.gif

Thanks to the Ateneo Women's softball team for always being there and cheering their hearts out and supporting our boys. smile.gif
