Neal Cruz in his column in the Inquirer a few days ago wrote that there are just too many jeepneys and buses (on certain routes) that their load factor is low and a lot of time is spent waiting in their terminals (which are the streets) just like the tricycles. Thus they are barely earning but are still earning but not much. If the buses and jeepneys increase their load factors and their turnaround, I am sure they don't have to ask for a fare increase and, in the case of buses, even lower their fares.

I think it just shows that we have an excess of public transport on the road. Trains are jampacked (with the exception of LRT2), probably since they offer the quickest travel time from one point to another. Public transport (esp. Jeeps, Tricycles, Buses) have dug themselves into abigger hole --- as their number increases, unproductive hours increases (due to traffic and waiting time for passengers). I have nothing against PUJs, PUBs and tricycles. I just want them in a more manageable number. In any case, we all lose. They have empty buses and people are caught in traffic. And the fare increase would be like subsidizing their surfeit existence.

Pwede sila mag-set ng time of arrival and departure ng mga bus. Walang traffic. Alam mo naman dito, war first before progress. huh.gif

[EDIT] Oo nga pala! Bago magtaas ng pamasahe, taas sweldo muna!!! biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif Wages hike ! That's right !

I think there was a previous experiment made by then DOTC (am unsure.gif ) Sec. Oscar Orbos on centralizing transportation with the Government. I think the endeavor was laudable, but the project fizzled out somehow. I can't remember what was the reason behind it. This project is why we had the Metro-vehicles; the MetroBus, MetroTren (still running by the way). cool.gif

I have nothing against PUJs, PUBs and tricycles.

I do. They congest the streets, pollute the air and cause mayhem and accidents... dry.gif
AnimoTeneo
Limit the those excessive vehicles. They also pollute the environment and causes the gasoline prices to increase.

The more demand of oil, the price and supply of oil will increase.

The government should improve the city bus transportation. Para sa future wala na iyong mga jeepneys, PUJ's, PUBs --> (what is this?) and motor-tricycles.

My first jeepney ride, the pamasahe was only P2.50 or P2.00 ata. Now I heared its P8.00? Geez, and to think malapit lang iyong pinuntahan ko noon.

smile.gif
Cami
Hahahaha.

AnimoTeneo: PUJ = Public Utility Jeepney, PUB = Public Utility Bus.

I'd be damned if naging P8.00 na ang pamasahe. Lintek.

It also doesn't help that the Congress passed the VAT bill. First, it was fares, second, commodities...don't you think that we're being strangled an inch tighter every month ?
gee
There are something like 50 jeepneys under the Aurora-Katipunan overpass. All plying the Aurora-UP route. How many trips do you think each jeepney makes in a day?

The minimum bus fare is 8 pesos while that of the jeepney is 7.50. Can anyone explain to me why this is so? Buses are supposedly more economical to operate on a per passenger/per kilometer basis.
wiljoe
In a comment that sounded insensitive to the plight of the poor, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said the increase was not significant. "Two pesos? That's just (the cost of) two text messages," he said.

Typical Atenean...
Cami
I would agree with wiljoe that Bunye's remark was insensitive, stupid even. I also read that from some article on the net.

However, I wouldn't call Bunye a "typical Atenean". He's a jerk. Most Ateneans aren't. Heck, I didn't even know Bunye was Atenean. blink.gif

Anyway, let's not turn this topic into another school bashing thread. Thank you! smile.gif

the construction of the railway system should help improve transportation.

let's avoid rides na lang kung malapit lang naman pupuntahan natin. maglakad na lang tayo, it's good for the heart biggrin.gif

I remember Dr. Ibana telling us that 10,000 steps a day is enough exercise smile.gif. (like what the Japanese do).

This shouldn't be a problem. If the Singaporeans can do it, why can't we?

Although I also heard that the most effective use of walking as an exercise would be brisk walking for 15 minutes. huh.gif

But bad for the lungs. On the drive to Makati taking Fort Bonifacio, have a look at the Makati skyline when coming from Market! Market! There was a day when I couldn't even SEE the buildings because of the brown haze covering it. Imagine walking and working under THAT! Emphysema city, dude... laugh.gif

Singapore is able to do it because the minimised traffic and pollution and planted trees, thereby reducing the heat people experience while walking. The sidewalks were also made walkable by widening them and making the establishements respect the required setback of their buildings.

Yeah, walking in the streets in manila is like smoking cigarettes without even inhaling one. laugh.gif

Seriously, city officials should be looking at this problems. People should not always look upon the president to issues solutions.

well, if more people walk, then there'd be less vehicles on the road to create air and noise polution biggrin.gif hehehe! seriously, i agree with the points here regarding the pollution, and the hot humid weather. although we can't do anything about the latter, we can do something to address the first.

agree. that's why we have local governments. not all problems could or should be addressed from the top (the president) to bottom; rather there are a lot of problems that should be addressed from the bottom up, such as pollution. we can't expect a sudden country-wide "air-cleaning" to happen. we have to start with our own little communities and the rest will follow.
gee
I think it is 30 minutes 3 times a week for brisk walking. Radonc, you could see the smog clearly when you take the MRT along EDSA. Don't jog or brisk walk in the early morning or evening when it is cooler. The heavier polluted air settles down so one breathes more of this. Don't drink very cold water when your body temperature is very hot. Don't eat fruits on an empty stomach. Take some crackers(a little solid) first.

right! hehehe biggrin.gif grabe nga ang init lalo na pag summer. but i leave early when it's cooler. i don't mind a little sun before being cooped up in the office. well, the point is doing what one can to save on expense and perhaps help reduce traffic and pollution as well.

there will be CNG-fueled buses running in August, i think. it's a cleaner alternative fuel and i hear cheaper, hence cheaper fares. i believe a lot of incentives are offered by the BOI for CNG investments.

there's also a movement advocating the use of bikes which i think should be encouraged.
