Well I’m not from Ateneo, La Salle, or from UP, UST, but I admired those universities. I’m just curious, coz I loved watching LOCAL quiz shows that the participants were from different colleges/ universities like PLS. KONEK ( MTB-ABSCBN 2), BATTLE OF THE BRAINS, LG QUIZ (GMA 7) and a lot more quiz shows…
(I’m not sure if you are familiar with those shows). As I was observing the quiz shows/ contests, I noticed and I never heard that there were participants coming from Ateneo, (well, UP DILIMAN and La Salle BENILDE had one… in PLS. KONEK-MTB)… correct me if I’m wrong… I also like watching beauty pageants like the Binibining Pilipinas (one of the prestigious beauty contests in the Philippines). Again I never heard that there was a contestant from Ateneo (I’m sure ateneans have also the guts too), well UP and UST had some(Miriam Quiambao- UST, Nina Ricci Alagao- UP)… My question is ‘why’…
…Does this mean that Ateneans find it so ‘baduy’ or ‘cheap’ in joining those contests or ADMU System were strict, dictates their students to be choosy when it comes in joining contests/quizshows? Or thy were just protecting their integrity na hindi sila basta-basta sumasali sa mga shows like that…?
… To add some… Does the Atenean find it so ‘ baduy ‘ in entering showbiz?... when the Ateneo Blue Eagles won in the 65th UAAP… and the players suddenly turned to be stars like Quimpo and Villanueva… kasi napapansin ko lang the Ateneo community were overreacting about the exposures that their players had.
… Does the Ateneans preferred glamorous job like being a commercial model, like Michi Valeriano (TV Commercial model; VJ MYX), Ala Paredes (TV commercial model; VJ MYX)…who are ateneans also.

Well!!! Ateneo is the best School in the Philippines... Actually I agree of it!!! :cool:
i forgot her name, i think it was anwen something? anyway, she joined bb. pilipinas and she ended up being sent to the miss world competition. this was about 2-3 years ago.

i agree that ateneans are "maarte" and "pihikan" when it comes to everything pero i'd like to add that NOT ALL ateneans are like that. you see, we are affected by the norms of the society. more often than not, mas katanggap tangap yung mga taong "pang-masa" ang dating. when you say that this girl is an atenean, people would say "ay, sosy yan. conio. mayaman. at ayaw ng baduy" mabuti na lang kung ang ganyang impression ay maganda. people are looking at ateneans as sons and daughters of rich filipinos. not as individuals who are willing to serve the country.
as for your question, i would say that, maybe, they find it corny (to join those shows) or they really don't want to join. simple as that. it's like choosing which shoes to wear or which umbrella to use.
we are free to choose whichever show we want to join to, as long as hindi nakaka agrabyado at nakaka-apekto ng karapatan ng ibang tao.

Lia Andanar (AB 1992 cum laude) joined the bb. Pilipinas.
marami lang talagang Ateneans na medyo takot sumali sa mga ganung klasing contests. i must admit, Ateneans are afraid of failures, which explains na walang mga board exams ang mga courses nila (except for ECE and Chemistry). siguro maingat lang kami sa mga ganung bagay. kahit isang maling step lang, mabilis kang husgahan ng mga tao, lalo na kung Atenean ka.
Katherine de Guzman (Bb. Pilipinas-World 2000-If I'm not mistaken) is Atenean.
There was an Atenean guy who joined Who wants to be a millionaire around that time too...
And there were a handful of Ateneans who joined in the Battle of the Brains in the early 90's.
So Ateneans aren't exactly close to the idea of joining such contests. Maybe Ateneans are just busy. Heck, had I had the time to join contests way back in college, I would have. Its the actual processing/applying to be a contestant that is such a hassle.

My good friend and former orgmate Willard Cheng (AB COMM '04) joined Game K N B a few years back. 
Maybe dellacomputer missed out the times that Ateneans won in the Battle of the Brains, Binibining Pilipinas, etc. Stereotyping is predominant in our society. These are just a few things that people perceive an ordinary Atenean but the truth is, just like any other person, Ateneans have different personality and preferences. Sorry dellacomputer but I guess you better do your homework researching before asking those questions. Just an advice, please don't be offended.
