Hmm.. sa Mactan, may kalayuan sa Cebu City proper eh, beach lang talaga habol ko diyan. Mag jeep ka na lang papunta dun city para malanghap mo ang tunay na Cebu. San masarap kumain? Everywhere! Daghan!

Try eating near Lapu-Lapu shrine just outside of Shangri-La. Try "ngo-hiong" from Ngo-Hiong House. Parang sari-sari store lang ang mga yan pero masarap. You should also try some of the "steamed rice" at Harbor City/Dimsum Break (found in SM Cebu and Ayala Center). There's also A & A's BBQ outside Waterfront Hotel Cebu.

As for Shangri-La, one of the best na yan. Try din Plantation Island. Dapat solb ka na dyan. biggrin.gif

And don't forget to eat lechon with "puso" (hanging rice)!

Inside the Shangri-la Mactan resort alone, there are already many restaurants: Papparazi (Italian), Cowry Cove (seafood), Asiatica (Indian, Philippine, Malaysian, Indonesian), the Patio (which is the main restaurant where they serve "eat all you can" buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner), The Shang (dimsum and Chinese), there's also an outdoor restaurant where they have the Filipino buffet plus live folkdance entertainment, etc. For nightclubbing, you can go to the Coco-Loco in the basement. They have live bands performing every night.

They also offer free regular shuttle service to the Ayala mall in Cebu, SM Mall, etc.

I will also be in Shangri-La in May to relax and unwind before leaving for San Francisco on May 18th. We might see each other. smile.gif

I'm the buff Fil-Chinese-looking guy who hangs around in the gym (2nd floor) at around 4:00-5:00 pm. I usually wear black sweat pants and black T-shirt with an "obscene message" printed on it. blink.gif

The Lhuillier family usually hangs around in the hotel. You can see me with them, usually having breakfast in the Horizon Club.

when will you be there? by the way, how many minutes or hours away is the city? how long will it take to go to magellans cross or some of the sites? tongue.gif

Still don't know the exact dates when I'll be in Shangri-la. It will most likely be from May 9-13 or May 9-15.

Magellan's cross is only 5 minutes away from the hotel. Downtown Cebu is approx. 40 minutes away.

The hotel has regular shuttle service (if I recall, every hour) that can bring you to Ayala Mall or SM, then pick you up on your return to the hotel.

You may also want to visit the Taoist Temple in Cebu.

How long will it take to go to the Taoist Temple and to Ayala Center? Hahaha...Im definitely going to see you there if you go during those dates. hehehehehe! aRe there any good restaurants near our hotel aside from the ones inside? What are the other good sites there? How about for good shopping for the native products?
BerdengEbak
The Taoist temple is about 30-40 minutes away. It's located near Beverly Hills (subdivision), which is an affluent enclave in Cebu. There are also great Chinese restaurants in downtown Cebu.

There are good restaurants outside the hotel. There's a popular Korean restaurant in Mactan which I'm sure you won't miss because it's located along the airport-hotel-airport route. The Korean tourists frequent this restaurant. On the other hand, if you want to mingle with the "natives", I think there's a (cheap) "Shutukil" seafood restaurant near the Magellan's cross site.

For local souvenirs, you can go to Ayala Mall or SM Mall or the Carbon market. If you like local delicacies like dried fish (danggit), dried squids, etc., you'll find them in carbon and even in the airport on your return flight. There are also sidewalk souvenir shops just outside of the hotel.

While in Shangri-la, I suggest you hang out in the beach or in the pool to relax. I usually sunbathe in the main pool area by the "crooked/bent" coconut tree or near the starapple tree. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

Enjoy!

how about the airport...how long will it take to get to the hotel?
BerdengEbak
The airport is just 10 minutes away from the hotel. There's free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel. Just look for the guys in Hawaiian shirts with the Shangri-la placard and tell them you're booked in their hotel. They have a list of hotel guests with your name on it. There will be a van waiting for the guests outside the airport.
bleh_88
Oh, okay. so you dont really need to reserve with Shangrila regarding your way to their hotel? THey will surely be there to pick you up?
BerdengEbak
If you have already booked a room at the Shangri-la, your name will be on the list for the van to pick you up on your day of arrival. There's no need to call for a van or a taxi because there's always a Shangri-la van that makes its rounds in the airport. When you arrive in Mactan Airport, even before you pick up your baggages in the conveyor belt, look for the Shangri-la guy with the placard and tell him that you're staying in the hotel. He will look at his list and check your name, then he will tell you where to wait for the hotel van. Usually, there are several guests who stay in the hotel everytime a plane lands. I'm sure you'll have company.

I hope that helps! Enjoy!
