How well do you think will our teams fair this coming UAAP?
We had a lot of 2nd place finishes last year, and do you think they will imorove to eventually attain a Championship in which our school has never won (ex Womens Bball)...

Women's Basketball = Return to the Finals, finally winning the crown

Men's Basketball = Final 4, might make the Finals on a favorable Final 4 matchup, will slug it out in the Finals; still a year away from championship form

Juniors Basketball = Back-to-back championship

Men's Football = Return to Finals, hardpressed to retain crown

Women's Football = Final 4 berth, might make the Finals

Men's Volleyball = 6th place at best

Women's Volleyball = Might make Final 4, still the best looking team around

Baseball = Might make Final 4, hardpressed to make the Finals

Softball = Hardpressed to make the Final 4

Track and Field = medals in a few events, good for 5th or 6th overall

Swimming = more medals from last year, could be as high as 2nd place overall

Fencing = should be in fine form after Liga Escrima, could be overall champions

Judo = men's team might repeat, women may improve to at least contend for overall 1st

Everything else I have no clue.

Oh yeah, Ateneo will once again lead the UAAP in fan wisecracks, one-liners, griping, in-fighting, quarrels, hindsight coaching and armchair analysis, especially in basketball.

Men's football team should have a good chance to 3peat because the team is practically the same as last year's. Only Santos, Achacoso and someone else have used up their eligibility. I expect UST to contend and La Salle should be stronger this year too.

our baseball team is quite promising this year. hopefully will make final 4 and contend for finals.

Junior's Volleyball (Starts Dec 3) - Only a few graduated from last year and they are replaced with so tough and tall boys who can be comparable with the junior's basketballl team in terms of height.

Men's Football - Almost the same team from last year. They will still be in the Finals.

Women's Football - Improved Team but not enough to challenge De La Salle.

Track & Field - Improved also but with RP Team players from FEU, it is hard to have that Gold for overall.

Fencing - As for Women's, they placed 2nd last year. I've been hearing some improvements from the team too I don't know about the Men's where we (I think) placed 5th last year.

Judo - Of course, for Men's, we are the defending champions, other than that, we still have a solid team since only a few guys graduated from last year's team.

Women's Tennis - We have the best netters for next semester in the Women's Tennis Team. Czarina Mae Arevalo, the top netter for the RP Team, will still play for Ateneo and get that crown. We almost swept the tournament last year only to lose to De La Salle in the Finals.

Men's Tennis - I haven't heard any news from this team.

Women's Badminton - We have a nice line-up also here in our Women's Badminton Team. Some of the 2003 Champion Team will still play. Also, Chiu, 2003 and 2004 MVP will still play for the Ateneo team.

Men's Badminton - I also heard some improvements in this team but in the JVC tournament, they didn't quite got their rhythm.

What's our current standing in the race for the UAAP General Championship?
jancarlo
I think we're still in 4th or 5th place. Di bale don't worry, in the second semester, we have stronger and better teams to make it up at least in the top three. biggrin.gif

A few corrections jancarlo... There are no FEU Men's team tracksters that are members of the national team. (None that I know of). The women's team of the Tams, on the other hand, are laden with SEA Games veterans.

Despite the solid lineup of the Lady Tams, our women's team still has their vaunted 1-2 punch: Mika Santos (former national record holder/SEA Games veteran/UAAP silver medallist) is a sure shot for the Gold medal in the Pole Vault and last UAAP's bronze medallist in the same event, Steph Javellana. Even though the women's team are composed mostly of rookies, finishing last in a field of 7 is a far-fetched possibility.

Expect the this year's men's team to place at least 4th this UAAP. The men's team is led by team captain Rob Sargan (Decathlon, Pole Vault) and co-captain Ryan Dalman (Shot Put). Both are forces to be reckoned with in their respective events. The team itself is a combination of rookie talent and experienced veterans of previous UAAP and non-UAAP wars. This year's team is no push-over - and in my opinion, the strongest Ateneo team to date. We're going to fight for every single point.

I hate this crappy feeling of fighting for mere bread crumbs (the bottom four). Give us a few years time (and ample support), the track team will be one of the top contenders in the UAAP.

I know that we haven't proven anything yet, but it would really help the team's performance if Ateneans aside from our immediate family members and friends, would watch the UAAP meet this February.

Don't know about the badminton. La Salle has a powerhouse team with Obanana and the Guerrero twins and Chan sisters. Ateneo only has Irene Chiu--is she still playing?
