UAAP SEASON 68: SOARING HIGHER

ADAMSON UNIVERSITY flies into Season 68 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) championing the theme Soar Higher and expecting to match, or even surpass, the explosive 2004-2005 school year.

Season 68 officially starts with the traditional opening ceremonies on July 9 at the Araneta Coliseum. Rites that will be followed immediately by mens basketball games.

On July 10, Sunday, the fabled Ateneo-De La Salle rivalry takes centerstage, thus guaranteeing another blockbuster first two days of the country's most prestigious collegiate league.

The reins of the UAAP were formally handed over by De La Salle to Adamson U in simple rites yesterday afternoon at the Manila Polo Club inside the posh Forbes Park in Makati City.

Danny Jose, now the former De La Salle athletics director who was at the helm of Season 67, turned over the general hosting chores to Season 68 president Fr. Maximo Rendon and Dr. Ricardo Matibag of the Falcons.

From a fruitful and slam-bang Season 67, the Adamson officials promised an equally exciting Season 68, which will also see Far Eastern U (FEU) returning to the juniors (high school) competitions.

Basketball games will again be played on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and the Big Dome and the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym in Quezon City will alternate as venues. The women's basketball games will remain at the Falcons gym on San Marcelino.

The turnover rites were preceded by the UAAP board meeting, where the members from the eight schools also agreed to modify rules on eligibility particularly on student-athletes who are either foreigners or Filipinos who have returned home.

The UAAP, starting Season 69 which will be hosted by the University of the East, will enforce the two consecutive years residency rule on aliens and comebacking students from abroad.

Also, University of Santo Tomas, the juniors and seniors general champion, has agreed to trade places with University of the Philippines as host in year 2010. UP asked to host the UAAP on the same year it is celebrating its centennial anniversary.

Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym! Yeah baby!

By the way, anyone care to give an analysis on how we've fared in our supposed home court. Sheesh, the only problem to this is lots of players with cramps and oxygen masks.

Why are the high school games being played at the BEG? In prior years, the games were played at the UST gym.

Thanks for the Seniors schedule, jancarlo. Do we already have the schedule of our Lady Eagles?

I have pero yung proposed pa lang, not the official.

jancarlo,

^Sige ba! Hehe. tongue.gif
Eagle_Eyes
so the games will be held either at the araneta or at the BEG lang? good for all of us wink.gif

one question though - have improvements been made (or at least, are there any planned) to the BEG? (ex. Ventilation has always been a perennial problem there.) A scoreboard on the other side of the court will surely help too.

and hopefully they can add more electric fans. hehehehe maganda pag pina aircon nila..hehehehe wishfull thinking lang tongue.gif

atleast no problems with parking and security!. cant wait for the season to start. im sure people at the UAO are already getting ready for the non=stop calls from die hard supporters like myself for UA tickets...or LB tickets if im lucky hehehehe.

go ateneo! one big fight!

Speaking of soaring higher Ford Arao has improved on his vertical leap, his timing on jumps for rebounds and blocks, and even his sprinting time. Well done, Coach Black. Ford, work harder, its almost there son, almost there.

I really am excited, I hope we can do a 7-0 again or much more....hehe...
