Another multi-tasker enshrined in the Ateneo Sports Hall of Fame is the late Domingo R. Imperial, Jr. He played both football and basketball sometime, I believe, in the post-war years of the Ateneo. (His moniker "The Mighty Mite" suggests that he excelled more in the former biggrin.gif)

And like many of the stellar athletes already mentioned on this thread, he did just as well off the field as he did on it and went on to become a lawyer.

We had a talk with Fr. Nemy about the same thing right after the Champion's League game against UP. Among our current Blue Eagles, I do agree with BK that Japeth has the potential to post double duty. But I honestly believe that if Japeth could do well in another sport, it would be in track and field. High Jump. Boy has the goods and the tools. He's a long and lanky 6'8", weighs like nothing, has natural hops, very coordinated and has explosiveness on his runs. Natural combination for a potential high jumper.

If Ateneo really wanted to have multi-sport atheltes then its entire varsity program should be retooled to do precisely that. Personally I'd love to have UAAP boxing and see how Carlo Medina or Jobe Nkemakolam do in the squared circle.

One way to retool the program is to recruit athletes instead of players. Why tell a kid "Sali ka sa Blue Eagles, basketball," when you could simply say "Sali ka sa Blue Eagles, basketball at track!" O kaya football and baseball. Tignan na lang natin ang standing sa UAAP ngayon, we came in 4th overall yata, from a mere 6th last year. It was the non-basketball and women's programs that actually excelled enough for us to get this placing.

Not many people know Miggy Solitaria, up to about sixth grade, was a pretty good tennis player, like the rest of the Solitaria brood. Imagine a long-limbed, langky and agile guy like Miggy on the shellcourt or claycourt instead of the hardcourt. Japeth Aguilar, with his mutant-like sprint could actually excell in the 110-metre high hurdles or even the 400-metre dash.

The Ingles family have a history of doing well for AHS in track. If the father of Mickey Ingles was the batch mate of Anton Montinola then we know he is simply following in his fathers footsteps. That Ingles also excelled for AHS in football and track.
