During the last Uni Games, the Womens Team fell to La Salle 0-8 before going on a 7 game win streak before falling to La Salle once more in the title game 0-1.

So there is much hope for the team this time around. They're not expected to win the title this season but if they do, then good and well. its in two years the team is supposed to be ready for the championship.

This afternoon, the Women's team started out by beating FEU 1-0 (they beat FEU also by the same score in the Uni Games). They had lots of scoring opportunities but couldn't convert. By the second half, FEU tightened up on D, keeping the ball mostly in our side of the field, but never really threatened.

According to UAO officials, this team team may not have the prettiest game or passing skills, but what they do best is keep the pressure on the opponents and relentlessly attack. They make a living off mistakes and putbacks. Not too many spectacular goals for this team but goals nonetheless.

Congrats, womens team!

Seems like the women's team have a string of bad luck when it comes to injuries lately.

In last saturday's Lady Eagles game, one player (I don't know who as I missed the game due to a darn migraine) hit her head on the floor and had to be admitted to the hospital. I hear she's allright and will be released today.

In yesterday's women's football team game against FEU, Angelica Chan, Jose Marie Chan's daughter collapsed in a heap during a halftime drill. That was quite a yelp of pain from her. Luckily it looks worse than it is, she sprained an ankle. Here's to her getting well soon.

The team's second unit is quite a sparkplug the way I hear it.

You should watch this team, they're just as fun to watch as the men's team.

Go Ateneo!

missed both the mens and womens games today. kainis. but i did catch the DLSU vs FEU game sa women's division.

and let me tell you that it was quite a treat. i left with a few minutes left in the game with DLSU up 3-0. FEU was never in the game as they spent like 85 minutes of the 90 minute game just fending off DLSU's repeated attacks on their goal.

what impressed me about DLSU's game:
1) their defense - each time, the ball would enter their territory, their defensive players would send it back right away with powerful kicks all the way back to FEU territory. no fooling around here. their D is anchored by player #8 who is plenty impressive. she knows where to send her shots and is not only taller and more mobile than the FEU players but is smarter.

2) their footwork and lateral movement - lotsa ankle breakers in today's game. they just plain outmaneuvered the Lady Tams. the score should have been much bigger had DLSU converted on more of their shots. it seems that there were times that they seemed excited that they were going to score that they misplayed their offense. but the best goal easily was a nice cross to Lazaro who headed in the ball to make it 3-0.

3) passing - DLSU got the ball where they wanted in the quickest possible time before the Tams could react.

Coach Hans has a very good team over here. I understand the the Lady Archers are the Uni Games champs. it should be fun to see them when they go up against our Women's team.

Profanity. Its not the first I've heard Hans berate his players but nakakailang pa rin. reminds me of the Lady Eagles' John Flores. bwahaha

Well, what's more scary about Coach Hans's team is that it's young...majority of this year's team are rookies...In fact all of his players will still be eligible next year. Plus, this team hasn't peaked yet...

DLSU has used the same system for two years now and still, no team has found the formula to beat it...(UP's just being lucky).

#8 player you're talking about is Stephanie Pheasant...She is probably the MVP of the team thus far. And she has been the most consistent. Lazaro, meanwhile is believed to be the next Marielle Benitez. But many say, as early as now, she will be better than Benitez. She has shown smart moves on the field and defenders just couldn't figure out those fakes...to think that this girl is just a rookie.

Tomorrow's game against ADMU will be a good test for both teams.

As for the profanity, well Hans wouldn't be who he is without it! laugh.gif

Thanks for your rejoinder about the DLSU team. Hans ....? have seen his antics for years. At times it's okay, but it can be a pain to hear after awhile. I always wondered about coaches who have to coach every single situation --- control freaks. Nothing wrong with that -- it's just a fine line one has to tread coz you can very well lose your team.

I agree with your assessment of #8, Stephanie Pheasant's game. she indeed makes that team so much more better with her playmaking skills despite being in the backfield and she takes all their free kicks! man, she knows where to place them and how to set her teammates up.

It should be fun to see them do battle with ADMU's tasmanian devil type of game.

Well, Hans has always been known to be a winner in DLSU...He loves winning and he loves to see his team enjoy the victory...Despite his VERY strong personality though, many of his past and present players joined his football team because of him. His girls see him as a father-figure off the field...And even the parents are used to him...In fact, it was believed that Hans was retained in the women's team because the parents of the players lobbied for it.

One should see how his players, both past and present, respect him on and off the field to really know the other side of him.

Well, our Womens' football team lost to DLSU 30-0.

Okay, it was 3-0, but it seemed like they scored 30 on us.

They could have played without their goal keeper and it still wouldn't have mattered. We had 0 shots on goal for us. Zero opportunities.

They must have had at least seven corner kicks to our solitary shot and that one kick of ours was well short of the goal and harmlessly went out of play.

We probably outscored La Salle only with angry words thanks to our coach who harangued our players from the opening kick as opposed to that Jake "the Snake" Roberts look-alike Hans who was uncharacteristically restrained this time around.

If the green and white kept their previous opponent, the FEU Lady Tams on their heels for like 85 minutes of the game, they we got the heck choked out of us because the game was practically played on our side of the field the whole game.

The inability of our defenders (notably #15 and #3) to clear the ball contributed much to the loss. La Salle knows that our team has been unable to field and clear balls quickly instead opting to kick them outside in time to marshall our defense. Against lesser teams, that might work, buy us time even. But against a team that can pass the ball around with pinpoint accuracy, possesses great footwork and has the speed to beat you, then you are only giving the opponent more opportunities.

Instead of trying to put the ball in play in the midfield, we'd opt to go to the sidelines where our players do not have the lateral movement to create opportunities or blow by defenders.

From the opening kick, they seized the momentum and scored three minutes into the game. Their excellent defense would send the ball back time and again foiling any attempt to put pressure on their defenders.

Our strikers had no help coming and were more often than not, left to fend for themselves. Time and again, La Salle's Lazaro, Uriarte and hmm... can't remember the other's name here --- would tie our defenders into knots with some great footwork.

When heading the ball, it's either to clear the ball or advance it to a teammate. La Salle is very good at this and would bring the ball upfield without too much effort. Our players at times would head the ball in the wrong direction. Our slow-footed defenders would try to double team their wing players who upon drawing the double team, would swing the ball the other way to catch us off guard. They'd wait for us to make a mistake that they'd quickly seize upon.

In the middle of the second half, La Salle's #7 misplayed a great pass by #8 and she bobbled not once but twice, but still had the ability to beat our defender to nearly score a fourth goal.

I could go on about what happened but all I'm doing is making La Salle look good.

Hey, coach, gotta work on our team's conditioning. They didn't look any good out there. Bawi tayo, ha? Hopefully, this will serve as a wake up call because that was a good old fashioned butt kicking our team got.

Darn. Congrats to the DLSU team. They sure play great football.

pero, our team improved so much.
