Ateneo beat La Salle today on a great shot by Roger Lastimado. It was a no bearing contest since FEU earlier eliminated La Salle from any chance at getting into the finals by beating UE. UST kept pace with FEU by thrashing UP 4-0.
UST and FEU fight for the right to beat Ateneo twice in the finals by going against separate opponents on Thursday (or is it Wednesday?) Ateneo should rest its starters--if only to avoid yellow cards and automatic suspensions--against its final opponent, UP.

current standings:
FEU def. UE - 1 - 0
ADMU def. DLSU - 1 - 0
UST def. UP - 5 - 0
ADMU - 6 - 2 - 1 = 20 points
FEU - 3 - 4 - 2 = 13 points
UST - 2 - 7 - 0 = 13 points
UE - 2 - 3 - 4 = 9 points
DLSU - 2 - 2 - 5 = 8 points
UP - 1 - 4 - 4 = 7 points
UE, DLSU and UP are now in the bottom three which means even if they win their last game, they won't have a chance in the finals anymore, anyway, hehe...this last two teams are the ones who are in the finals...ADMU gets the twice-to-beat...
Scenarios:
1) IF FEU wins and UST loses
FEU - 4 - 4 - 2 = 16 points
UST - 2 - 7 - 1 = 13 points
2) IF FEU loses and UST wins
UST - 3 - 7 - 1 = 16 points
FEU - 3 - 4 - 3 = 13 points
3) IF FEU and UST draws
UST - 2 - 8 - 0 = 13 points
FEU - 3 - 5 - 2 = 16 points

what if they both win? UST goes because it has no losses/superior goal differential/more goals scored?
jancarlo
Feb 14 2005, 06:36 PM
uhm, yeah, UST has a superior quotient who has 10 goals while FEU has 9 goals, just check kung ganyan yung basis...kasi sabi sa kabila, ganyan daw....

A lot of the players will not be able to play against UP. They are suspended after getting second yellow cards during the last match (players are suspended for every 2 yellow cards that they get).

now i get it. pat was constantly pissing off dlsu by kicking the ball away from free kcik spots. is it because he wanted get his second yellow card? AFAIK, once you get suspended from accumulating 2 yellow cards, the count is reset.

hmmmmm... utak nga naman hehe. just like what david beckham did during their international against wales. he got an injured rib so he intentionally went for his second yellow card of the qualifiers to get the yellow card out of the way and at the same time recuperate from his injury.
Wow, no bearing ang UP vs. ADMU. never expected that...

Ateneo beat UP today 3-1.
I know its a no-bearing game but tama pa rin yun, hindi nagpatalo.
Now all we have to find out if it's FEU or UST.
We'll have our hands full with them as both are plenty tough teams.

Best Ateneo goals of the tournament:
Mickey Ingles for the win against DLSU in the first game of the season. He goes one-one-one with the keeper and beats him with a nifty move.
Roger Lastimado against DLSU second round. In his previous shot. He hits the crossbar. The next time around, he fakes of the lone defender then kicks one (from some 20 feet away) over the keeper who takes a few steps forward from his normal perch in front of the goal.
In case you didn't know, the DLSU keeper is the grandson of former BBB legend Totoy Avellana (I miss my old boss! Hope you're still thundering away with those Fabiliohs in that great arena in the sky!).
The keeper's dad, Joey, is from both La Salle and Ateneo. Joey wore blue to the second round Ateneo-La Salle game by the way.

Off topic. I know Joey (College '79). He used to wear our colors for the Men's Volleyball Team. He was part of the Seniors Champion team with the likes of Louie Gepuela, Boy Ramos, Andy Nanagas and Choy Cojuangco.

Sayang he didn't send his son to the Ateneo.

During the post-game awards ceremony, Gian Achacoso led the team in an accapella version of Gary Glitter's "Rock And Roll Part 2" which is commonly known as the "Hey Song." Then the BBB joined in. Man, galeng nun. Saya talaga.
Love it when the BBB plays this song during football games which first became popular as a fight song during the MJ-era Bulls. Now its a staple in basketball and football games.
BBB, keep playing the "Hey Song" before you know it, gagaya na naman yung mga ulopong na La Sallista na yan.
Trivia bit: In case you don't know, Gary Glitter was a 70's Brit rock icon and was popular during the glam rock movement of that era. interestingly enough, "Rock And Roll Part 2" is of three popular songs of that period that are staples of stadium rock or sports songs. The other two being Queen's "We Are the Champions" and the Bay City Rollers' "Saturday Night."

Okay, so this isn't about the college team, but this might have some bearing in the long run.
Someone should get rid of the small guy running the AFC. How he got that post is beyond me. The way things are going, despite the recent string of successes, we'll find the program in trouble if his lunacy continues.
What is it with these small guys? First sa BBB, then the AFC.

UAO was hoping to throw a bonfire party for the football team this weekend except for one glitch ... the Loyola Schools forbid any on-campus celebration in this month until mid-March. So if there's going to be one, it's going to happen 'round March 20. Unfortunately, some of the players won't be around by then.
Sayang. Hmm. Maybe we can torch this school along Taft and hold the bonfire there.

There is a nice article about the mens soccer team in Teamateneo.com. The author is a regular poster in this fora. Hulaan na lang ninyo kung sino ang writer.
Major news in UAAP soccer as mentioned in the article is that the Ateneo team is a bit green. A third of the team are rookies with majority of the players home grown from AHS and a player from Southridge. Pinakyaw ng FEU ang Philippine Youth team. LaSalle is tired being in last place, it recruited at least 4 players from SBC to play as graduate students. UST wants revenge after their loss in the shoot out last year.

just a word of concern to everyone...
i remember a month or so ago, members of the football team were selling tickets for their cake raffle. the cake raffle was supposed to be for the benefit of the team because they were lacking funds, and that some of their players might be pirated by other schools if the funds can't cover their team's expenses.
i know this sort of sounds bad since our players might seem as if they have football and not studying as their main priority, but we do ahve to consider that our players are sacrificing a lot to play in ateneo. they leave their families (for the provincial players), they have a harder time studying and practice pa..
as a concerned student and fan of the team, i honestly hope anyone offers whatever form of help they can give to our back-to-back champions. the team isn't just the players and coaches, it includes all of us in our own little ways, so let's contribute...

i'm not really a hundred percent sure, but i'm guessing these expenses would entail simply what the team needs for its training and games. maybe jerseys, food, transportation costs and the like.
if you really would like to help them, i know somebody from the team. just PM your contact numbers and i'll try to find a way to coordinate. thanks.
