Have you ever thought of inviting some celebrity or sports personality to dinner? Who would you invite and why?
Here's my guest list:
1) Paul O'Niell - great insights and very objective when it comes to discussions
2) Charles Barkley - we'll need a hotdog to liven up things
3) Muhammad Ali - every gathering needs a Top Dog and the Champ is the bangka for this group
4) Steve Kerr - his humor lends a nice touch to this group
5) Yogi Berra - with his stories and quotable quotes, this is gonna be a fun night
Ah, we'll watch Kobe vs Shaq. See who can stop the Patriots from creating their own dynasty in the NFL, and play cards. Loser buys the beer.

Cool thread, BK!

And especially appropriate because it's the holidays - you know, all the sitting around and eating...?
*tumbleweed rolls by*

Anyway, here are my picks (since it seems that they all have to be still living, I limited my list to the ones who are still among us, last time I checked):
1. Detroit Red Wings forward Brendan Shanahan - because he seems like a highly entertaining guy
2. Hall of Fame hockey player Gordie Howe - he's bound to have quite a few war stories to tell
3. Yankees outfielder Bernie Williams - maybe he can give us a musical number after dessert

4. Coach Joe Lipa - another colorful character (plus I can tape everything he says for Coach Sandy's benefit

)
5. Professional wrestler Adam Copeland AKA Edge - I know pro wrestling might not be considered a sport, but he's invited, so there *razzberry*
I think we will spend this time eating good home-cooked food and hanging out like ordinary folks, except that said ordinary folks will have some extraordinary stories to tell

This is fun. Maybe I'll come up with an all-women version in the future.

1. Michael Jordan - ask him how it feels to be MJ
2. Kobe Bryant - ask him what really happened in Colorado and if he had the good sense to have a pre-nup with vanessa
3. Wayne Gretzky - ask him how it feels to have so many untouchable records and being called "the great one"
4. Babe Ruth - ask him how he felt about his long time curse being broken
5.Barry Bonds - ask him if he really thinks the world is that naive to believe he had no idea what he was taking from his trainer
and if I can add one more
Derek Jeter - details details details on his well documented dating habits and adventures

the 5 non-American Athletes I'd invite over for dinner:
Vlade Divac - this guy is way funny
Pele - imagine what this guy has to tell!
Dikembe Mutombo - Deke has this worldly view of things and is one of the NBA's model citizens
Sarunas Marculionis - this guy knows what hardship is all about; a very passionate and intense guy
Zinedine Zidane - sapriste, mon ami. i'd love to hear his stories of Les Bleus.
the 5 women athletes I'd invite over for dinner:
Anastasia Myskina - sorry, prefer her to Maria Sharapova
Laila Ali - to ask her what it's like to be walking in her father's footsteps
Sue Bird - yo, my fave (Mhel Garrido's as well)
Mia Hamm - with her amazing streak as a North Carolina Tar Heel and as USA Women's soccer all-time scoring leader, what's not to tell
Chris Evert - imagine her stories of Jimbo, those great Wimbledon and US Open games she witnessed and played in, and of her foes on the court
the 5 coaches I'd invite over for dinner:
Casey Stengel - the man's a genius
Phil Jackson - imagine all those Knicks, Bulls, and Lakers stories he has to tell
Joe Torre - calm and has quite a lot of insights, plus he's been around

Early in his career as a stand-up comic, Billy Crystal had a beauty called "Howard Cosell, Right There!" where he impersonates the late Howard Cosell interviewing the great boxers of the 70s/80s such as Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Ali at his smooth-talking best, and Larry Holmes.
Having Billy and those five characters over for dinner would be a stand-up comic fan's dream, and I wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall having a front seat perspective to the pow-wow. Imaging those four sluggers slipping off their seats laughing at Crystal's antics, trying to out do each other, and Billy himself trying to "out-Howard" Mr. CBS Sports. Thank God I have a copy of Billy's "Mahvelous!" CD as this is the closest I could get to being that fly on the wall.
It's a pity Crystal sent to pasture his impersonation of sports figures early in his career. There's a motherlode of clowns passing themselves off as athletes who are cannon fodder for comics to make fun of. But I guess I'm a little too late - FOX TV's Frank Caliendo of MAD TV/Damn Best Sports Show/Fox NFL Sunday fame has this thing down pat, and watching the likes of Terry Bradshaw and Jeremy Roenick reduced to laughing softies while watching Frank spin his magic is a sight to watch. I'll save Frank and his victims for another sit-down dinner.

But seriously, I just want to see if he has the brains to carry a good conversation or if he's just another pretty face. Is he really a prick like what my upperclassmen buddies have been telling me for the longest time or is he just seriously misunderstood?
Anyway, whoever Im having for dinner, the good news is Im not cooking; order ko na lang sila ng pizza
