I want tp order an alvarez jersey. but what is the process if its provincial?
marlorustia
Xedric,

As much as we wanted a COD arrangement for provincial and overseas orders, we were not able to negotiate for such a system with any of the forwarders. What we have now for provincial buyers is a prepayment system wherein they are first asked to deposit the cost of the jersey(s) plus shipping cost (P100 for the first jersey through Air21/FedEx) to either a MetroBank or BPI account, then the package is delivered. We give every provincial buyer our guarantee that they will be satisfied with the transaction. We do not require that they fax us the deposit slip or wait for the funds to be credited to either of the account. Once we have all the necessary data to ship, we ship as soon as we get the call/SMS from the buyer that he/she has already made the deposit. We know that this is a very risky way of doing business, some would even say foolhardy and naive, but we are dealing with Ateneans and people who appreciate what Ateneo stands for. We are merely reciprocating trust and we are convinced that the honor system still works.
joescoundrel
Perhaps the folks behind the jerseys could give us a rundown on shipping terms and conditions for those interested but are not in Manila right now.

We actually have pictures of joescoundrel wearing the new jerseys. We, however, decided against posting them because, in the photos, the features of the jerseys were consistently undermined by the overwhelming handsomeness of the wearer. We are now in the middle of negotiations with Chris Tiu for him to model the jerseys.

Seriously, sorry paralusi for the delay but the pictures will be out really soon. We just had some technical probelems with the photographer, este, the photos. Thanks for your patience.

Eslon Blue,

We got your PM. Its great that you finally decided to register instead of just always lurking around. Say hello to our fellow Ateneans out there in the East Coast for us.

As we said in our reply PM, the procedure for overseas is practically the same with the provincial purchases. The difference is that the remittance has to be made via fund a transfer service like Western Union or, like what one of our buyers from Daly City did, through a forwarding service like Johnny Air Cargo. It is also better to do a group purchase instead of individual orders. Rates to the US and Canada are almost the same for all the major delivery services with a range of US$12-15 for the first 1-1.2 pounds and an additional US$9-10 for each pound thereafter. With a jersey weighing about a pound each, there is considerable savings for bulk shipments. We are now arranging for a 12 jersey package to the West Coast with a door-to-door shipping cost of US$85. If they were to be delivered individually, the cost would be more than double. Also note that instead of the usual less than five days delivery, the forwarders are not giving any guarantees because of the busy season.

For your reference, our Large size is 46 inches around with size increments of two inches so the Medium is 44 inches around, the XL Large 48 inches, and so on. We have from Small to XXL and a single girls size that's much shorter, tapered at the sides and only 34 inches around. Pare, the normal focal point in determining your measurement is the chest, but for guys like you and me whose bodies have been ravaged by gravity and time, it has become the widest part of our torso, usually our gut. Sorry, the XXXL size is made to order but I hope and pray that you are asking for somebody else, not yourself.

We hope to hear from you soon. Keep warm.

The price is the same but if you order now the earliest we can deliver is mid-January. The manufacturer's production capacity is already booked for the year and custom orders will be included in our next production run at the start on the new year.

Thanks allblue for the link. Naunahan mo na naman ako!

Someone asked if the materials we use for the retro jerseys are the same as the ones used in the originals. The answer is no simply because better materials are now available.

Let us start from the earliest jerseys, the Arnaiz, Gaston and Watson. These jerseys were originally made from an acrylic type synthetic cloth that was non-absorbent and dissipated heat very poorly. This, aside from the early air-cooled (perforated) material was the only available material for jerseys up to the eighties. I remember getting uniforms made from this air-cooled cloth as a member of track teams and basketball teams. It was already stiff to begin with and it progressively got stiffer as you wore and washed it. By the end of a season, even if you had already soaked it with sweat, the crease caused by clothesline was still there. But I digress.

The Hizon and Ticzon jerseys were made from a better type of acrylic cloth, thinner and lighter but it still ventilated inadequately. The later jerseys of Alvarez, Gonzalez and Villanueva were made of a variation of the now ubiquitous Dri-Fit, a proprietary material exclusive to Nike. I say "variation" instead of "knock-off" or "copy," but you get the picture. The name Dri-Fit has become a generic term for all the "variants" of the original and nobody can deny the success of this material. In all its forms, it is thin, lightweight and has excellent ventilation properties. From a production point of view it is very pliable and comes in all colors. That is why its widely used from racquet to endurance to team sports.

The material we use for the Watson and Gaston jerseys is another "variation." This time of Adidash, a proprietary material of Adidas. This is the family of cloth used in official NBA jerseys. Compared to Dri-Fit, it is heavier and thicker. This is why it has not gained as much popularity locally. The NBA can afford to use it because heat retention is more of a problem for them than heat dissipation due to their air-conditioned venues and their fall-through-winter playing season. In their summer leagues the NBA teams use the latest air-cooled materials that have improved fabric blends that keep it a supple thoughout its use. These are the materials we use for the Arnaiz, Hizon, Ticzon, Alvarez, Gonzales and Villanueva jerseys.

The most common uniforms now are rubberized silkscreen prints on Dri-Fit "variants" or on a material known simply as "Shiny" or "Shinny" (I am not sure if the pronunciation is the same or manufacturers just spell differently), a type of cloth with a satin-like outer side (I just realized the possibility that the correct pronunciation may be SHEENY because of its satin-like sheen, but I digress again) and an absorbent inner side. PBA teams, among many others, use this kind of combination because even complicated designs are easily executed on these print-friendly materials.

The decision as to what materials to use with what jerseys all came down to aesthetics. We wanted the jerseys to be of premium quality so we decided to use stitched patches for the names and numbers as well as embroidered seals and shields. Printed patches were a cheaper option but we declined because they look, well, cheap. We also went with more premium materials like the Adidash "variant" and the more modern air-cooled cloths, which structurally complemented the patches and embroideries. The collar and arm-hole (Sorry, I do not know the technical term for it so I settled with this one) linings are knitted, not folded cloth. This is not only aesthetically more pleasing, but more durable as well.

We realize that these jerseys won't probably see any playing time, although I did witness joescoundrel making his old-school low-post moves wearing his Ticzon jersey, talo nga lang. These jerseys are meant to be worn in appreciation of Ateneo's rich basketball history and in support of our current basketball teams, whatever league they may play in.

Thanks also BETK. I hope to see you in your Ticzon jersey before you leave.

I hope you guys will later on have jerseys also of the other great Ateneo players of the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60s, 70's and 80's like Andres Francisco, Baby Dalupan, Luis "Moro" Lorenzo, Bibiano Ouano, Pocholo Gayoso, Tiny Literal, Ed Ocampo, Cristino Arroyo Jr., Bobby Littaua, Anthony Trillo, Bernardo "Joy" Carpio, Padim Ysrael, Seph Canlas, Danny Francisco, Alex Araneta, Olsen Racela, Jun Reyes, Nieto, etc.

Shadow,

So that you know, these jerseys have the official permission of the players. The group behind this would love to do the others but they have to secure the rights. And according to marlorustia (cool alternick), there are a few more down the pipeline.

Stay tuned to atenista.net for more info.

By the way, I got the Arnaiz and Watson. Love them. The Watson is just like the Mitchell & Ness material.

Thanks cubao fleahouse for the interest but like sidventura I prefer my real identity, as well as the origin of my nick, to remain SECRET. I was actually quite pleased that you were so enthralled by the Watson jersey you purchased that you didn't notice that I was wearing a mask when I handed it to you. I, however, still insist on forwarding you your P5 change, most probably through joescoundrel. I'll ask him to take the MegaTren to give it to you personally.

There have been numerous inquiries about the jerseys of other legendary players especially the back-to-back '87-88 UAAP champions (Olsen Racela, Jun Reyes, Danny Francisco, Seph Canlas, Jet Nieto, Nonoy Chuatico, Alex Araneta, Gene Afable), the rest of Francis Arnaiz's '69 NCAA champion team (Jose Gepuela Jr., Lyle Ross Jr., Frank Harn, Luis Afable Jr., Freswindo Cayanan, Mario Fernandez, Guillermo Balmaceda, Richard Palou, Rafael Morales Jr., Cristino Panlilio III, Marte Samson, Cesar Ijares, Roberto Rius, Ricardo Cleofas & Gregorio Araneta III) and the rest of Fritz Gaston and Steve Watson's back-to-back '76-77 NCAA champion teams (Joy Carpio, Padim Israel, Chito Narvasa, Gerry Verzosa, Bambi Cabigting, Pons Valdez, Jojo Gamboa).

There have also been a lot of inquiries about the younger set of players like the rest of Rich Alvarez, Wes Gonzales and Rico Villanueva's '02 UUAP champion team who have already graduated (Gec Chia, Epok Quimpo, Sonny Tadeo) as well as the fellow '90s stalwarts of Vince Hizon and Richie Ticzon (Sandy Arespacochaga, Gabby Severino, John Verayo). And, yes, we take all inquiries or requests seriously, even if they are punctuated by smilies. As such, we now have an official inquiry by paralusi and an official request by missus personality for, drum roll please, Dodot Jaworski.

Our procedure, as Bleachers King said, has always been to get the consent of each of the players before we make a production run of their jerseys. We are currently in negotiations with some of the mentioned former players as well as those from even earlier eras and we plan to come out some of their jerseys early next year. ALL the jerseys are or will be on limited runs.

John, coincidentally, is my cousin and he is currently in the States. I will try to get in touch with him and tell him about your brother's inquiry.

Thanks again cubao fleahouse. I hope to see you soon, even if you won’t be able to recognize me.

EBlue,

No my friend, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. The Hizon and Ticzon jerseys on the main page are the prototypes of which only very few were made. The Ateneo and numbers patches on the Hizon prototype have no white outline. Much less noticeable is the Ticzon prototype that appears to have a darker Ateneo shield.

But if you are beginning to doubt your eyes, I recommend that on your next visit home you see a certain Dr. Leo Fores who is an excellent ophthalmologist at Makati Med. Not only is he a very competent specialist with matching gracious manners, he is also a certified basketball junkie. He can give you the lowdown on local and international basketball while he looks you over. He also has a basketball shoe fetish which he openly admits: he knows what player wears what, who is under contract with what company, what new shoes with what features or colorways are coming out when and how every major shoe is doing in the users' fora and at the market front. After examining your eyes, he can even recommend a basketball shoe that's right for you. You can't get a better deal than that!

Dr. Fores was sighted in the Gloriatta area wearing his Watson jersey. I, however, do not want to venture a guess on what kicks he had on because he has so many of them.

i was invited to a pick up game last week with some Ateneans at the Metro Gym along Pioneer St. in Mandaluyong. i arrived wearing my Laterre jersey and to my surprise two other guys were also wearing Ateneo replica jerseys as well, one a Hizon and the other a Ticzon. as it turned out we were to play on the same side but our team was supposed to wear white. while i was profusely apologizing for not bringing a white shirt (hindi naman dominante ang mga Atenista sa barangay namin kaya sanay ako sa dark vs. light lang, hindi blue vs. white.) these two other guys casually walked to their Nike and Lacoste gym bags and simultaneously whipped out Arnaiz jerseys. after i was told that a light colored jersey would suffice i, likewise, casually walked to my Milo gym bag (giveaway nila eh. kahit na ba libre sayang naman kung hindi magamit.) and whipped out the bright yellow jersey that matched my shorts (the set was on sale, 50% off. kahit na pangit ang kulay, mura naman!). to make a long story short, our team lost most of the games. the two guys in the Arnaiz jerseys, 'ika nga eh, "got game" and played very well while i sucked the entire night. i was actually dunked on for the first time in my life! the other team's trash-talk strategy affected me greatly. up to now i can still hear the guy guarding me saying "Taxi, taxi!" everytime i'd handle the ball or "Anong batch ka sa UST?" every time he'd get a rebound off me. i vow to get back at him as soon as i get the Arnaiz jersey i ordered. magsasama na rin ako ng mga kabarangay ko para sigurado.

Mr. Fleahouse informed me that the best place for Ateneo replica jersey sightings is Glorietta. On his way there last weekend aboard the MRT, he sighted a Hizon jersey and while roaming around the mall he sighted an Alvarez, a Ticzon, an Arnaiz and a Watson all in the same afternoon. While I have not doubt about the credibility of Mr. Fleahouse's report the last part of his story appears to be somewhat embellished. He claims that while waiting for a companion he sat near an employees' entrance. He allegedly saw a man wearing an authentic Cardona jersey over dark blue pants and black patent leather shoes enter and minutes later came out already wearing a white top with name tags, dark blue cap and thick leather belt accessorized with billy club, first aid kit and flashlight. Believe it or not.
