Mhm. I love managing stuff. XD
Reminder: If there was another thread like this, it is in the abyss now, so leave it alone, and work with the new generation.
Basic Instruction: Computer games, platforms, console games, etcetera, is most welcome here. Anything about the games of today. Anything else, is not supposed to be in this thread, nor in this forum (hence the board title). Keep off-topic (non-video game related) away. Thank you.
Talk about any kind of video game here that you think is cool. Or talk about the ones you hate and debate on it with the people who love them! Whatever, really. Just keep it all about video games.
Hrmph, I hope some of you appreciate this. :O~ This thread, as well as the other FF thread I made is just to spice things up, to make it easier for all, instead of everyone going off-topic in threads, and filling it up with stuff they don't even have anything to do with.
Regarding FF conversations: Yes, it's a game, so where do we talk about it?
In the FF thread, if you can. I'll be keeping an eye out fr every conversation that will be happening. Final Fantasy already has it's own thread (as it prefers to), so there is certainly no need to talk about it here, anymore. BUT! Since it is a video game, you can talk here. Just keep them to a minimum.
Thank you!
Feedback? More threads you'd want me to do? Just ask. It's no trouble. :3

CHrono Cross rocks my world. *hearts*
For any fellow CC lovers: why do you love this game? ^^ DIscussion starter lang.

Nov 5 2004, 02:04 AM
well what i really like most about CC is the soundtrack. For me, it's the best Square has ever composed. Better than ff7 and ff8's in my opinion. Second, i just love the fact that you're able to use more than 40 characters. Maraming nagsasabi na panget daw kasi walang character development. Sakin nman, malamang hindi lahat ng 40+ characters na yun mabibigyan ng attention. ANo yun, magic? Syempre they'll just focus on the main characters- Serge, Kid and Lynx. I think the purpose of the others really is to help you on your journey. Medyo nag add sila sa story pero ang use nila is para magamit mo sila in your quests, right? Basta wala akong paki sa knila, I love CC, love all the characters, love everything about it. The graphics were awesome too, for a ps1 game. And the storyline's unique w/c makes the game even better. Pero music talaga fave thing ko about this game. I could listen to the entire soundtrack every single day!
My favorite characters are: Males: Fargo, Viper, Serge, Glenn and Grobyc
Females: Steena, Miki and Leena
Other creatures: Poshul and Mojo!

Chrono Cross??? tfour thumbs up in my book...
i love the gameplay, the system and the story...
my fave characters being karsh, norris and glenn... of course serge and lynx are out of the question... he he.
don't know how many times i finished it... every new game, new characters to develop. it took me almost 250+ hrs just to get tired of it... he he.
nobuo uematsu is leaving square... (sigh)
question... why is xenogears so underrated?

I find the Silent Hill series very engaging. I am scared and freaked out by the games, and yet at the same time, I feel compelled to play and complete them. It's survival horror at its best. And I like its underlying premise that you are basically some ordinary guy/gal drawn in by the mysteries and weirdness of Silent Hill. You ain't some soldier or ninja with mad skillz or kewl p0werz confronting the malevolence of the town, and that makes the terror and suspense more genuine and easier to connect with. Plus the whole series relies less on the shock and surprise factor in other survival horror games, and more on rising tensions and building up the suspense, which I think adds to its appeal. And there's a strong philosophical and psychological undertone to all the characters and events and imagery in the series, which I appreciate. If you want to know what I mean, check out Silent Hill 2.
Also, check out Tekken 4 and Tekken 5 and the Devil May Cry series. I got the inspiration for my forum name from these games.

i think Silent Hill's the best horror game, but it's just too scary. I cannot play it myself even during daytime.
dmc is cool too, i prefer dmc1 than its sequel though. mas feel ko yung environment. mas creepy para sakin

as for tekken, well, let's just say that im not a fighting game fan. i suck at it. but i find dead or alive cool. not a big fan of it tho.
darker_angel_akira
Nov 8 2004, 10:02 AM
silent hill? three thumbs up...

it's actually more of a psychological thriller... every of the game like the doors... the eerie sounds... etc.. leads you to think you really are part of the game... it actually scares the heck out of me... i mean just to think that i would ever be in that god-forsaken place.
but it's still just a game...

dead or alive? enuff said... he he.

(echi level rising.)
oh yeah... zone of the enders 2 from konami. try it. it;s one hell of a joyride... i mean, if you like mecha and stuff.

(i wanted to make a new thread about KH2 but i don't really think a lot of people play this game)
when i first heard about kingdom hearts, i thought it was the silliest idea in the world...
imagine disney and square... but i spoke too soon, ha ha.
it looks kiddy, i know... none of the dark, brooding mega-cool aesthetic stuff, earth shattering weapons... and those awfully hot chicks... (don't forget that darn bike from FF7 which was oh so cool!!) but even without all those things, Kingdom hearts has it's own identity... the characters and the storyline are absolutely out of this world.
i absolutely love the game... tetsuya nomura's a god, he he.
@HK: btw, here's the squall-gackt pic...

HK's 1st post- That's nice to hear. ^^; My favorites would be...
(not in a particular order)
•Final Fantasy 7
•Chrono Cross
•Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
•Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
•Final Fantasy 8
•Suikoden 2
•Wild Arms 2
•Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland
•Realm of Fire 4 (I think I got the wrong name)
•Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
•Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
•Space Colony
•Star Ocean 2: Til the end of time
bfly26- Hmmm...I think it's the atmosphere. I wouldn't say it has great graphics, but it's good enough to make you think that you are actually in the game yourself. Beautiful music, magic, characters, and story plots are what make me feel secure.
HK's 2nd post- My favorite characters:
Males: Lynx, Nikki, Serge, Glenn
Females: That mermaid...(forgot her name), Harle, Kid
Others: uh...the water elves!! XD
Every other post- Silent Hill is not exactly my favorite, but it's very good! Call me strange, but I like being scared to death of it. I always try to play it during the night...around...3am. It's nice. XD
DMC is a nicegame, too. Not exactly my favorite, neither, but the story is interesting enough...
DAA- When I first heard of KH, I thought it was really interesting. When I did try to play it though, it went downhill from there. Personally, it was too easy...but I do like a storyline a bit...

Dec 15 2004, 03:58 PM
i guess kingdom hearts isn't for you...
of course it's easy...
FFVIII could be played by an elementary year old and finish it without breaking a sweat...
ffVii is still the best because it was still patterned from old-school rpgs. (i just remembered ruby and emerald (or was it jade? that underwater thingie?) weapon. i beat that underwater villain with the time limit... adrenaline rush... hehe.)
ffIX was crappy... alexander was great though ( i mean on the aesthetic side)
ffX was ok... it wasn't much of a joyride but i liked the story. kinda tragic but it's still ok.
FFX-2... i hate it. it's too sissy.
FF tactics... now that's my kinda game. it's not so difficult but not that easy. it's a chess game on a different level.
Chrono cross... hmmm... difficulty's 2/5. i loved the game though... and i don't remember how many times i actually finished it.
harvest moon? tch...
BREATH of Fire 1-4. let's just say if you played one, you played them all.
suikoden 1 and 2... whoah.. cool. i hated 3 though...
and i have a new favorite... it's not the best game in the world but i enjoy wandering around... STAR OCEAN 3:till the end of time (star ocean 2 was "second story")
and SHin megemi tensei:Nocturne... he he
(oops! i forgot xenogears... and xenosaga.. he he)
BlueTintedWings
Dec 15 2004, 05:05 PM
It was EMERALD Weapon who was underwater. It was fun. Not much of a sweat, but it wasn't easy neither...especially when you did it late at night (around...3 am on a school night once) and ate your heart out during dinner time. <.<;; Meh. Ruby was my favorite. No time-limit is better, but I appreciated the challenge of Emerald.
FFVIII-Wasn't exactly the hardest game ever I played.
FFVII-Was the first Final Fantasy game I played. So personally, for my age and lack of experience, it was...difficutly: 4.8/5 (don't blame me, it was the first time I played a FF game) I've only finished it thrice. It was getting boring after the first few times, but I doubt I'll give up on that new saved file I have to finish.
Chrono Chross-Was the first...something I've played. I'm slowly finishing it again, but I keep forgetting what to do. So...the first time I played it's certain kind, it wasn't that easy for me. Things to do were hard, but battles in between is cake.
Harvest Moon-How dare you even talk about it when you hate the game, DAA. Personally, I think it's cute. So if you don't, just keep quiet.
Breath of Fire (my bad. I lost the CD a looooong time ago)-Keep your mouth shut about this one, too. I personally liked the 4th one among all the rest. 3rd was practically the same, but not really.
Suikoden-Whatever. 2 is the best one, I'd say. Graphics do't matter much. It's the game-play. 3 wasn't a challenge. 4 was worse.
My bad on Star Ocean. The CD cover must be wrong or something. In any case, I just liked running around the place and fighting. -.-
Xenogears and Xenosaga...can't understand why people like that. I've seen everything from it. Maybe the specific plot, but the general one, I've seen it before. Graphics and names are everywhere. Tch, to it, as you said to HM, DAA. >:(

Woo! really Suikoden 4 is ugly? Man I was going to play that when it will be release here in the US. Can you elaborate more on how it sucked? I bought the 3rd one but simply just didn't buy the whole game so I traded it

--> Anway it was 6 years ago when I bought Suikoden II --> good story and i like it just because it was simple.
BlueTintedWings
Dec 19 2004, 05:23 PM
Yeah! I only liked Suikoden 2 because it looked so easy. It wasn't, but that's what kept me going on. XD
4 wasn't ugly...I mean, characters and graphics and the story line was good, but gameplay wasn't my type, personally. To put the elaboration simple enough, it's control. Not literally control as in moving around and stuff, but...uh...it's like keeping it all organized and actually getting the story. It took me days after I finished the game to get it. But sometimes it's just as simple as 3rd grade math if you looked hard enough. I was just confused.

Dec 22 2004, 03:11 PM
I also bought during the same time with Suikoden II the Lunar series. I like both somewhat in the same quality with Suikoden, I wonder if they will remake one for PS2. back in grade school I was just buying random games that I liked and then one day going to my storage I saw Lunar and I haven't played it after a year of buying it.
BlueTintedWings
Dec 22 2004, 04:12 PM
Only after a year after buying?? o.o; Lunar's not bad, I do like that characters, and the storyline at times, but when I did play it, I ended up shouting "No! Don't go that way! Say this! Not that!! Argh, wrong way!" XD Control terrible.
Remake for PS2? They said they won't be remaking anything, but I'm not sure. Rumors are everywhere, so I won't know if it's true.

I'd like to disagree on the statement that FF9 is crappy - its flavor is from the old incarnations of FF, like FF5 and FF6, which may have turned off those gamers who only started playing FF7 and FF8.
Furthermore, an existentialist nine year old black mage? Come on - that was cool!
BlueTintedWings
Dec 23 2004, 06:36 PM
Welcome to the thread. XD
Thank you for the polite disagreement.
FF9 isn't the worst, I'd agree. It isn't totally crappy, I think DAA said that, if I'm right.
Anyway, I do like some stuff about it. ^^ Vivi was my absolute favorite and one famous song from it in particular when I first played the game. I played it when I was nine...o.o; Vivi was my idol. I started having hallucinations about kicking Garnet's arse. XD No, but seriously, FF9's good, compared to MUCH MORE EARLIER versions of the FF series. Compared to 1 or 2, whose storyline isn't bad, it's two thumbs up.

i only said it was crappy. i liked vivi, too.
it's not the worst game in the entire universe...

xenogears isn't for everyone, that's a fact. it's too darn deep for some people to appreciate... kidding. The plot was mature... very... it was about questioning everything, why their so-called "god" did not give a f*** about them... Fei's a schizo... elly's a murderer... Citan is responsible for a lot of things... Bart is a pirate... billy was...well... abused... and this barely scratches the surface, aside from the fact that the plot is all about love, lies and death... he he

FFVI - IMO the best of the FF series so far, sans the graphics and MIDI music.
FFVII introduced me to the series, and will always have a place in my heart.

8 and 9 weren't too challenging. Vivi is a certified a$$-kicker.
Other games I like:
Armored Core series
Xenogears (more for the story than the gameplay)
FF Tactics and Vagrant Story
Budokai 3
Tenchu series
OMFG, someone else has played PoyPoy! coolness.
DAA, you forgot to mention that Chu-chu is a gross violation of real-world and RPG physics.

oh yeah, i forgot about that humongous poor excuse for a giant whatever... ha ha. poor chu-chu.
final fantasy tactics is a classic. I don't really know why i was so engrossed with it... to think hated the ending because the final boss was so easy...
vagrant story... when i first played it, i found it a bit challenging. My bro actually spent an hour and a half killing the final boss since he only likes doing combos and running around like crazy... ha ha.
and of course... resident evil. It was pretty cool back then.

xenogears is the game I've played that also has the most secrets (I like secrets...)
My favorite level in Poypoi is the one where you can throw around the gigantic green boulder that turns into a tyrannosaurous rex, how sweet it is...
I didn't really appreciate the "ending" of chrono cross, although the continuation option makes playing through it again (to remember the story) very easy.
Any front mission 3 players? I just got tired of having to upgrade the wanzers and didn't play anymore. Was the story good?
Also, even though I am interested and would like to play them, the final fantasy games are the only rpg's I've bought that I haven't really tried finishing or playing for more than 4 in-game hours, I would have finished the Anthologies but my cd's got lost...
Syphon filter had tense moments
After learning of grander musashi's food system (it actually spoils dammit...) I didn't bother playing it anymore

Eggmund:
Front Mission 3 was okay enough. finished it with both storylines. story's a tad bit too open-ended for my tastes, though.
it's not the wanzer upgrading that takes up time and effort, really. it's the weapons proficiency thing. i managed to get everyone to S class for their assigned weapon (i was that bored). not really worth it, as i found out.
Front Mission 4 was a bit more challenging (in the beginning, later on it gets ridiculously easy). if you haven't already tried it, i would recommend it.
