My golly, have you seen this guy play?

If his averages (#3 in ppg and #1 in 3pt %) dont speak enough for his talent already, get a load of his numbers in the amazing game against UPIS!!

22 pts, 7 assts, 2 stls, 5/7 3pt shooting

Wow. This guy is almost like LA Tenorio and Larry Fonacier combined. Surely a future king eagle!

ONE BIG FIGHT!
muffetteer
Magaling nga, he just needs to build more mass (as long as hindi mag-suffer shooting niya kung magka-muscle na).
pusong atenista
he improved a lot compared to the way he played last season.
f00bar
But then college ball is a whole different ballgame.
He definitely has the capacity to be a great player, but especially with his height, he'll have to work even harder to be a competitive guard in the UAAP senior competitions.
pusong atenista
i agree. iba nga talaga ang game pagdating sa college. i mean, look at Ken. MVP siya nung high school pero he can't do that much ngayon sa college basketball. and also, marami rin magaling sa team B so di pa talaga sure if he would be included in next year's line up for the UAAP.

he gets my vote to replace escueta's spot.he's a tough cookie. he wont back down.

yes, i agree jai has the makings of a king eagle. however, right now i feel he needs to gain college basketball experience and toughen up in team b even for a year. may i ask why bump off escueta when he has not been given the chance to play? in my opinion if there's a guard who needs to be replaced, it's escalona.

isn't he the pamangkin of chot reyes? or imahinasyon ko lang? hehe.

i hope this kid gets to grow at least 2 inches taller before he joins the seniors team.

mas magaling si yuri kay macky. si macky na lang ang palitan.

Jai Reyes will have a place in the seniors team, though maybe not yet next year. But once LA and Magnum use up their playing eligibilities, the only legitimate shooter is Chris Tiu. Jai's outside touch will definitely be needed.
randy
if and when escalona is bumped off then i say take in jai. you have a potent trio in LA, yuri and jai. small but dangerous!!!
blue devil
Jai Reyes is a big game player although I think that it'll take some time before he can make the adjustment to college ball.

In my opinion he's rather small for the college game and he has a tendency to force the issue on offense and take too many shots (although this is possibly because he knows that he can dominate at the juniors level).

yup, he's chot's nephew and i'm proud to say, pinsan ko yan!!! wink.gif
AnneCaluag06
wink.gif he has a long way to go. and know what? he has the potential! i believe in this guY!

i saw how escueta played this season. all i could see were errors/turnovers. its not as if he wasnt given a chance. he was. i think he was fielded in 4 a couple of games and he broke every rule in the book as a point guard. he was a horrible point guard if u ask me. and to think he was in team b 4 awhile to gain experience. he may be team a material but he needs more time in team b
iceman
no matter what ppl say about escalona, he's an able backup. he just needs to dribble a lot less. he has shown flashes of brillance. i dont care if his skills are limited, palaban eh. that's what u need in basketball , not some puppy demeanor like some guys in team A. i like "angas" if chanelled smartly and correctly. i like jai reyes kasi palaban sya kahit maliit.

Seems Jai has doen very well - TWO gold medals - in UAAP Track and Field. IF he can't make the regualr basketball varsity next season I think he may have found a sport that suits him just as well. It may not have the tv exposure of hoops but its still a chance to represent that Blue and White in athletic competition.
Pineforest Crunch
Hey I didn't know that Jai was also part of the Track team!

The kid has so much energy in him! Watching him play during the tryouts (with bandage and all) was as if seeing a smaller LA Tenorio with the shooting accuracy of Chris Tiu.

And yes, I'm taller than him. Now that makes me all the more frustrated because I couldn't handle the ball as well as he does. tongue.gif

*bump*

any news on the development of jai-namite? since he is part of team A in the ongoing FMC tournament, i would like to assume that expectations are high for this kid. so how's he coming along?

does coach norman have a special program to address the strength and conditioning that our little guy needs to go head-to-head with more seasoned, and sometimes bulkier, point guards?
gaslighting_abbie
jai is being brought on slowly owing to our depth at the guard spots. right now he is being given as much exposure to seniors competition together with fellow hobbits pao dizon and meds medina, who can be quite a handful because of his natural playmaking skills and overall peskiness.

what's going for jai reyes is his ability to drain the three. however, from a technical standpoint, he can become even more deadly if he can shoot with equal ease at the corners as from his usual sweet spots. he also has to work on his dribbling skills and learn to avoid the double teams in the opponent's red zones. of course, he stands to benefit from weight training to protect himself from the physical play at the seniors level and to give him greater shooting range.

jai has the goods to make it in college ball.

thanks gas.

was just wondering because from accounts here in a.net, a couple of big and effective, although new, guards are trying to make waves as part of team B.

being the atenean that he is, medyo slightly biased lang ako sa bata natin to make it to team A this coming july. pero siyempre in the end, i'm all for whatever is good for the entire team.
joescoundrel
Jai has been doing very well in the brutal practices of Team A, more than holding his own against the veteran guards like Macky and Eman. Although there are a lot of guards in the program, most of whom are bigger and stronger, Jai still has the best shooting range among the lot of them. Jai however needs some serious conditioning to be UAAP-ready, otherwise he'll get the stuffings beat out of him by the big and highly physical UAAP guards.

Well,, i think so,, since Macky is not a member of the team next season, maybe jai would fill the point guard position for the team,, I mean he is a good pointguard,,, he can shoot from the 3 point area, plus he gained lots of confidence because of the trust of coach Norman... I like the way he plays especially when i watched him played against Mapua Cardinals in Rizal Memorial,, He was red hot back then,,, then when he was'nt able to shoot and coach sandy took him out for a while.. he said "Coach Babawi ako..." and he did,, he scored 20 points in that game... eventhough they lost,,, he showed what he can do for the team,,, Galing niya.... ONE BIG FIGHT!!!!

jai is a good off-guard (meaning shooting guard & this is what he does best) but he should not be given the task of a point guard. he is too small .... kakainin sya ng mga malalaking opponent. a point guard is the "coach" on the floor. he directs the play, creates scoring opportunities for his teammate (ASSIST IS VERY IMPORTANT AND DECISION MAKING). just like what LA Tenorio has been doing during his 5 years stay in the ateneo & DID IT BEST - yun ang tunay na point guard (it is not his score that matters and the ability to shot 3 pointer but making his teammates scores). one has to look at the assist record & passing ability. thenm you would know who should be the point guard.
BigBlue
i have a weird feeling that Jai might be cut from next year's UAAP team. A year with Team B would do good for his confidence, and hopefully, his consistency.

But then again, this all depends on how things work out in the offseason, and how the other aspirants like Medina, Dizon and De Guzman perform.

Jai should be a shooting guard. He is not effective as a point guard as what we have been witnessing in the past games of Team A. There are better point guards than him and the coaching staff should look into this. As what was mentioned in the previous post, assist and decision making are expected of point guards. They are not after their own glory and fame but their contribution to the team.

jai's making waves this season 70 of the uaap games...ang ganda ng game nia against adamson.. he was the one who made the team alive!! it was like raining 3pt balls!! sabi nga ng commentator, "WHERE WOULD BE ADMU WITHOUT JAI?"...That's a tough compliment... he really has the potential to become the premier point guard in collegiate league!!! his game against up was also good... but the game against UE was a different story... 1st loss ng ateneo and some people are blaming jai!!! mad.gif being his number 1 fan... i just don't find it fair that these people are blaming my jai for ateneo's loss... who the hell wants his team to lose diba? and for a person like jai who's really serious about the game and winning the glory back to ateneo...it's really not his fault!!! I hope they would do better and make their campaign for season 70 a success!!! *i love kuya jai!!!* tongue.gif
