Just a little food for thought...

As of 2004, out of a total population of 86 million, some 8 million Filipinos — or about 10% of the population — live overseas.

That's why I've been telling my college friends not to lose hope if they can't find dates back in Manila. There's lots of pretty Filipinas in other countries who don't try to hard to play HTG. wink.gif

What I find disconcerting is the fact that our politicians ask that overseas Filipinos contribute to a so called fund to help solve the country's financial woes, yet these same politicians do not want to do their share in terms of cutting down on spending activities such as reducing or abolishing the pork.

Jaco's right.

Politicians are asking them (and us back here) to make sacrifices, but they won't give up their pork. Right now, they keep on quibbling over who should begin: Gloria tells them to cut their pork, but they say she should do it first, and so on. No one WANTS to take the first step. It's irritating.

In the first place, our congressmen and senators shouldn't have that pork. Their job is to simply pass laws, it's the executive's job to approve the laws and projects. I don't give a rat's ass either if they claim they need it to fund their constituent's programs--that's why there's an allocation in the budget for local programs. And whatever the case, it is ALWAYS a source of temptation for them. We should get rid of it once and for all.

But back to the Filipinos overseas. Yeah, it's good they're working there because that's our greatest source of revenue. But the problem is: what if those host countries' economies COLLAPSE? We have to strengthen our agricultural and industrial sectors as well.

Congressmen are now working on a pork-free, line-itemized budget for the year 2005. I hope this measure will push through.

JDV and cabal's proposal of line-item budgeting is pure and unadulterated hogwash. Line item budgeting is the same pig dressed up as a (milking) cow. All this translates to is that tongressmen will be inserting lines in the budget to the tune of their pork's allowance. Same trash, different name.
