Will there be a repeat? Looks like I've been missing out a lot for the past three games I've missed. sad.gif

Unfortunately, none anymore for this year. This thing only comes every second to the last game of each season. Hopefully, you'll be able to catch it again come next year. wink.gif

hmmm nung panahon ko it was the last game of the regular season where the band went down.

I always enjoy it when its the bands turn to perform for half time. I guess its also to give them recognitions for all their hard work, so they go into the limelight for once. I mean they're a big part of the pep squad, and they're always in upper b.

ganda nung halftime nyo mga chong! ei i really like the attitude of the drummers coz even if ndi sla pumapalo humahataw parin sa pagcheer! anlakas! For me u guys are the best out there and i hope u don't stop surprising us! BTW, pag Go Ateneo sana may sayaw ung cheerdancers nyo! hehe

Without the Blue Babble Band ang panget ng UAAP! mawawala kac music and nakakawalang gana ung mga laro if u don't hear:

Sayang. I never even saw one since my freshman year. First time I saw it, on TV pa. Hehe.

Congratulations to the Band for yesterday's performance.Truly, the Ateneo Blue Babble Band is still the measuring stick of all UAAP bands. The drums were dominating yesterday.Louder and more defined.Malakas yung drums ng DLSU but there was no sound definition...no punch and ours was louder. They still can't find the answer to their drum woes.

Or maybe they were just trying to produce static? blink.gif

hehehehe those are my normal excuses just to watch the games!

as always the band was great! keep it up! cool.gif

The perks of sitting in the band area: I woke up today with echoes of the drumbeats buzzing in my ears.

But it was great! Boundless energy talaga dun sa area namin. Never stopped cheering. smile.gif This Sunday, I probably wouldn't mind sitting there again.

Kudos to the Band! smile.gif

The band did veryyy well all through out erm...every season.

They looked exhausted after the La Salle game a while ago, but surely, smiles were plastered back on their faces after they were comforted and praised, by...everyone I went with in the game.

Kudos to the Babble!

And yet, there is many other things to do. Juniors...Team B...etc.

Hope they do as well as they always do in a game!

Band, good job! Even if we lost, you have shown the entire Araneta your indomitable spirit! It was highly infectious, guys! smile.gif

It might sound cheesy, but thank you for a job well done. You guys made the final game of my college life worthwhile. smile.gif

yung classy, yung magiging proud ka na atenista ka pag napanood mo. di yung tulad sa ibang "school" dyan na panay pa-cool ang ginagawa. kakasawa na.

pwede mag-request?

all boys naman. yung parang throwback to the babble of old.

kung pwede retro babble jackets din.

pwede. mas tigasin pa yung mga lumang (parang sapatos a...) babble e (na kung ating tawagin ngayon ay "alumni"). kahit na mga out of shape at kadalasan ay pandak, mas nakakasindak yung mga sina-unang babble. talagang di aatras kahit gaano sila kaliliit at kapapayat / katataba.

I don’t usually share my opinions, I just read posts here, but there’s one thing that bothered me a lot that I think it’s really worth sharing.

I went to the cheer rally yesterday to watch the Ateneo Legends vs. 2005 Ateneo Blue Eagles. It’s been a while since I felt that feeling – watching our team playing on the hardwood with us cheering out loud with our own Blue Babble Battalion. However, I noticed something wrong that wasn’t there during the past two to three years – there was something wrong with the beats of the Babble Band. So I took a closer look and listened very well. I’m not a drummer, but I’m into music, so maybe I can say if there’s really something wrong. I noticed that our drummers are not synchronized the way they were a few years ago. They don’t sound like one loud bass drum and a noisy snare drum. It’s either the left side yesterday was going too fast, or the right side was going too slow. I really don’t know. Another thing is the drummers are hesitant when starting or finishing a beat. The start of our “get that ball” cheer doesn’t sound pretty good and solid and sometimes, the ending is as bad as well, having those noticeable mistakes like not ending the beat in a proper way or having extra beats that I believe is a result of the hesitation of each drummer to end the beat or play another measure of that beat. I also noticed that the volume of the band decreased a little, although this cannot be tested until they go into battle at the Araneta Coliseum. But based on the way they played yesterday compared with some Blue Eagle Gym games that were played during recent memory, they were not as heart-stopping as before. I don’t know what can be done to address this situation. Maybe it’s too early in the season to tell whether the boys are not as competitive as before, but we’re just a week away from the Ateneo-La Salle showdown, and honestly, I don’t think our twenty or less bass drums and around 12 snare drums can compete with the twenty-five or more bass drums and much more snare drums of La Salle. They will be tested later, at the Classic showdown, but who knows what the green side will bring. And we’re just talking about one school, what more the whole UAAP community. I just hope that the band members can gather themselves and be the band that fuels our spirit in cheering for our school. It’s not good to see some of their members sitting and watching the game. I even saw someone texting and calling through his cell phone. I just hope that the Babble administration will address this situation. I don’t care if they have internal problems (I know this, because I know someone who WAS from the Band, but he did not know that I was this bothered) I just wish that they bring back the same force they brought during Ateneo games. I don’t want our school to be disgraced (sorry for the lack of a better term) in front of the whole UAAP community. I believe we’re number one in cheering, but if one component is down, how can we maintain our position? I think we must do everything to support our team and our school. Maybe someone can enlighten us or update us if they are doing something about the whole situation, whether they’re training more to improve their sound or solving internal problems that might be the cause of this situation.
Eagle_Eyes
i was at the showdown yesterday and i would like to share the same opinion.

having gone to 90% of all ateneo uaap basketball games (not only against dlsu) since i was in grade 5, i've seen the various batches of the babble come and go.

i was there during the dark ages of ateneo basketball. i was also there during the 2000's when everybody realized that our team was already improving considerably year after year. I was also there 'til the end of last year's campaign.

one thing that was constant all those years was the loud, singular-sounding boom (of the bass drums) and crack (of the snares) where it felt as though the playing venue would collapse from the sheer effect. nakakadala talaga ng emotion. kahit lolo at lola mapapatayo at mapapa-cheer. Even if we were the one catching up on the opponent.

now, i have to be honest. i agree with blueforlife. during the exhibition game, the band did not sound organized. Hindi nakakatakot. But then, I let it slide because naisip ko, oh well...acoustics lang siguro ng BEG ang problema. But then I realized that I've attended countless games of the blue eagles in the BEG and the effect of the drums then was similar to that of games held at the araneta. Parang dinudukot yung puso mo. Yeah, that's a better way of describing the effect of the babble band. Even your heart pounds like hell. And the effect of this? Damn, you cheer your heart and lungs out...whether the team is leading by twenty or losing by thirty.

During the cheer rally a few days ago and the ultimate showdown yesterday, i did notice a slight difference (and I'm phrasing this lightly) in the way the band performed. I don't know if the members weren't as organized or the drums weren't properly pitched. But I know one thing. Hindi nakakatakot. Hindi nakakasindak. Hindi dinudukot yung puso mo. I know you guys can do much better than that. Kudos to the crowd at the araneta though. They were solid and cheered so loud, especially when the blue eagles were rallying (which is the normal thing we all do). Even the BBB and the cheerdancers were into it - - jumping and waving like it was game 3 of the finals. Natatawa na nga lang kami ni subzero because we kept on saying to each other that the game was just for fun so no need to expend that much energy tongue.gif

The band may or may not be undergoing a transition period right now. Either way, come Sunday, we have to come out full force. No holds barred. No hesitation. The Sixth Man. The Blue Babble Battalion. The Cheerdancers. And the Babble Band.

Handa na kaming lahat sumigaw at mawalan ng boses.

Handa na din ba kayo pumalo as one with all your might, at manindak (ng mga atenista at lasalista)?

For the sake of tradition and of what everybody has been used to all these years, I certainly hope so.

GO ATENEO! ONE BIG FIGHT!
bluewing
oo nga naman. even students from other schools make no secret of the fact that they are either intimidated by the ateneo beats or they love it as much as we do...

we can't disappoint our loyal opponents... smile.gif
Kamakiriad
Frankly, I never was into the cheer thing. I go to games, especially Ateneo games, because I love to watch basketball and see my team win. If my team loses, it's OK--the important thing is they played hard and gave it their all. But I won't scream silly till I turn blue in the face, which is how passionate fans show their devotion and school pride. I admire them, but, no, I'm not one to cheer like the team depended on my temporary fit of insanity. That's what the BBB is for, the way I see it: to give voice to the laid-back alums like me.

What I gathered from my sources and from the threads is that there's been some changes in its leadership and direction. And yes, the drumming in last Saturday's broadcast sounded discordant and "dissimulado," unlike in years past. Perhaps new members have yet to properly learn the different drum rhythms. Perhaps the new drum coaches (if there are) have yet to fully drill the drummers and percussionists. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

Obviously, what we're seeing are the growth pains of the new BBB. Given time, though, they will become better and more coordinated. So what I'm saying is that we have to meet at some middle ground: fans and alumni will have to bear with the BBB as they make their formative steps, and the BBB will have to do a lot of catching up at the soonest time possible.
A-ra-ra-ra
I can get pretty wild in cheering and I can be a little laid back at times. What I experienced in the Legends game was ok considering that there are reported to be several new members.

If there are really a lot of new guys on the band, we can't expect too much from them right away in the same manner that Rabeh Al Hussaini, Jai Reyes and Eman Nazareno aren't expected to be the leading blockers, Scorers and defenders of the UAAP.Growing pains muna nga talaga siguro.

I'm no expert in drumming but for a casual but loyal Ateneo fan, the band sounded OK.DLSU may have sounded great but we din't sound all that bad either.

To the band:Good job.I know you'll get there soon enough.
To the community:Let's support the teams and the Babble.

Go Ateneo!
true.blue
My observation --- positioning. The drummers should be evenly spaced and all of them should have a clear view of the Captain who should set the beat with his hand gestures. Disarray happens when a drummer merely follows the beat of the one beside him. And in a large venue, everyone knows that sound travels slower than light. So visual coordination with the captain is a must. In contrast, in the cheer rally, I was a lot of people standing around that would block the view of the leader.

I also wish that the BBB can practice singing the Ateneo (2x) Woh woh woh, Go and Fight, at the right and same key, and in the correct melody. There are some cheerleaders who cannot carry the tune correctly, and unfortunately, the crowd gets misled. Then, when the drums come in to join the singing, I wish they could merge with the singing at the same tempo. Most often, the drums tend to slow down the chant.

Just my suggestions. I'm sure the band will do well when we need them. OBF!
atenean_blooded
Offhand, I think the band played a lot better in the Ateneo-La Salle classic compared to the cheer rally.

Some comments:

- Someone tell the HS band to get their butts in gear. HIT HARDER! PLAY TOGETHER!
- College Band: louder, but not loud enough. A bit out of synch. Practice pa.
- KEEP THE BRASS BAND. ADD MORE. And place them in front of the drummers.

I think the college band played a bit soft because of equipment. I think they bring the new skins and stuff on July 10.

Remember the move Drumline:

ONE BAND, ONE SOUND.

maawa ka naman sa brass band. if you put them in front of the drummers, malalaglag na sila sa upper A. at sa bigat ng mga bitbit nilang mga instrumento, God knows what will happen to the people at upper A blink.gif

kung iaatras mo naman yung drummers para may puwesto yung brass band, maawa ka din sa kanila. pag labas nila ng araneta, 2 buwan na nga silang bingi, baka masagasaan pa sila sa kalye. blink.gif

if you meant in front of the snare drummers and behind the bass drummers, di rin pwede. the brass band will block the snare drummers' view of the captain.

if you meant the brass band stay in upper A while the drummers remain up there in upper B, baka pwede pa. otherwise, status quo na lang.

from what i saw, MAGANDA performance ng Band especially first game ng mga bago (well majority are new). Malakas, i had the opportunity to go to the La Salle side and guess what? I heard our cheers even though pumapalo sila. Kahit na may mga slight errors in the tempo tau I know maayos nyo yan in the long run. Basta Congratulations for a job well done. Oh btw, one thing puzzled me though, sa La Salle side malakas kau, pero when i went to the right side, likod ng ring, parang ang hina ng both sides? Bakit?Ü

Hats off to the college and highschool bands! biggrin.gif ,you guys rocked yesterday, though i agree with admuhot that minsan may mintis sa tempo. one thing i also noticed is that parang nauunhan tayo ng dlsu mag cheer....maybe the babble captain can do something about that.

i also hope that the captain of the banda would check the letter positioning, mejo nakatagilid kesi yung ibang letter kahapon. i noticed before that all the letters were nicely standing sa mga stante nila.

i know you guys would continue to hone your craft...goodluck on our next game!.

one big fight!.

p.s. oh yeah a friend of mine who is from dlsu was puzzled on why the band kept on playing kahit tapos na ang laro....hay,i didnt bother to explain cause they will never understand! tongue.gif

I know this is unbecoming and dirty and all that,

pero if they can fart at our alma mater song,

we ought to drum their stupid

"fail fail almoranas yadda yadda and ever shall we fail" song to oblivion.

I'm griping, of course.

For what it's worth, kudos for the band for being louder than La Salle's yesterday. Just a bit more work on the tempo. smile.gif

ah, siguro yan yung effect ng bass stands.. nakatutok sa court yung mga bass.. so sound travels down to the center or straight to the opposite side instead of merely spreading out smile.gif

Dagdag: yes, i heard that la salle horn go off when we were singing our alma mater. la salle: konting respect lang please. smile.gif

thank you for supporting the blue babble band. im sure they knew that since it was the first UAAP game of the season, they knew it would really matter to give it their all. there were a lot of new people (and yes, including a few girls.. astig!), but i gotta say that yesterday's performance was a HUGE improvement from the cheer rally. it's good that we can give our comments even though it might hurt sometimes, but it was obvious yesterday that they really gave it their best shot. nakita ko sila having their pep talk before the game.. nakaka-inspire talaga. and you could see by the way they played, they played with HEART and PASSION. that's what really matters. makita mo talaga sa mukha nila na binigay na nila ang lahat ng kaya nila. i just wish everyone would cheer more during the games, kahit tambak tayo, dapat magcheer pa rin diba? i think it would encourage the band to play harder if everyone cheers na rin.

take it easy lang on the bashing. i know some of them naman.. they're really trying their best to recover from the issues that happened.. i think most of you know about that. it's really tough for the band.. and you can't expect them to play like the band did last year. the blue babble band lost a lot of talented and skilled drummers this year.. it's going to take A LOT of work to bring back the power and force they delivered last year. the season is only starting and based from yesterday's game, i personally think that the band is on the right track. i know it's hard to keep our opinions to ourselves, but there are always better ways to say things. the last thing we should do is discourage them. after suffering a big loss, im sure theyve felt discouraged enough already.. there is no need to make things worse for them. what they need the most from the ateneo community is SUPPORT.

so to the band.. here's my share of support.

banda, alam ko mahirap.. pero alam ko rin na nagsisikap na kayo ngayon. just keep up the good work.. don't stop improving. don't settle. you can hit harder than you think. hataw lang kayo sa bawat game..

GOOD JOB, BANDA!!! i applaud you.
