If you do watch a San Beda game, you would notice that our crowd is no different from yours. Sheer fanatics

Yeah congrats to the Red Lions. Parang may koneksiyon nga talaga tayo sa kanila. Their best HS players play for us, their coach is an Atenean, and Manny Pangilinan was watching the final four game.

I watched the game at the Rizal yesterday with my bedan friend. Beda lost big time. Ncaa in my opinion is really in a soorry state of affairs. They don't sing their alma mater after their games. I think beda is just one of the few schools that sing their alma mater. When the bedans were singing their hymn, the PCU people were chanting..."Uwi na kayo!" but the worst part is...the bedan players themselves were running to their dug-out and not even listening to their schoolmates sing!! The only cheer that PCU has is just chanting P-C-U (just like feu's chant of F-E-U!). The cheering of San Beda is in a sorry state as well. They did their vaunted indian yell, but I only heard the drums and none of the students were mouthing the cheers. No little indians at half time as well, because their grade school is now in Rizal province. They also copied the "Lets go archers lets go" cheer of DLRT and replaced it with "Lets go beda lets go," apart from that cheer I could distinctly hear the drumbeats from another DLSU cheer. (whats going on with Beda???!! I thought they had lots of traditional cheers???!). As an added bonus -Beda chanted "ISKWATER ISAKWATER."

I was really sad for them. Maverick was right...Beda is wasting away in the NCAA.

The first half was hard fought, but after two quarters San Beda was only 1 point behind. The Red Lions' overwhelming defense plugged the scoring flow of the Altas early in the third quarter, giving them only four points inside seven minutes.

Meanwhile, Cordero, Paterno, and Aljamal whipped the crowd into a frenzy as they grabbed rebound after rebound, resulting in a fifteen point lead by the fourth quarter. It was just a matter of forcing the Altas to risk long-range shots which ultimately sealed the game for the Lions.

By halftime, the Altas hadn't even yet broken thirty points - their forceful playing resulting in three of their starters having three fouls, which resulted in a very near foul trouble result for them. They relied mainly on spots and long-range shooting, but by the fourth quarter, they were evidently demoralized. San Beda's players were in the zone, their comfortable lead gave them about 70% accuracy from the charity stripe. It was over before it was over, so to speak. Another great game!  8)

According to Mr. Dolor, there are 2 pre-requisites that San Beda has not met to merit a University Status from the CHED.  First, our research program and faculty development programs are far less impressive, to say the least in comparison to ATeneo and La Salle.  While UA&P is a small university, they meet this criteria quite well because they started out as a research/thinktank institution.  The Second criteria is the level or course offerings in the School.  This simply means, at least 2 Doctoral Programs must be offered.  Hence, the opening of the GRaduate School of Liturgy, Business and LAw.  Currently, we only have one Doctoral Program(Liturgy), but the GSLaw will soon follow suit with a PhD in Law.  I can't confirm this yet but San Beda will soon be opening a Graduate School of Philosophy as well. 

I have heard from Admin sources that the target date for the University-status is 2007, the year when Father Rector is scheduled to step down as Rector President.  I'm not sure though whether the priority is the University Status for Mendiola or the SAn Beda Educational System, which will include SBC Alabang.
