Post your random BUT Ateneo or UAAP related basketball thoughts here. These can be ideas, suggestions, observations or what have you.

Please please lang...wala sanang fan girl stuff here mad.gif

Here's a few of mine...

I've always thought that the Pumarens coaching in the UAAP (all 3 of them) will somehow later on lead into something fishy.Take for example, this coming game against UE...if DLSU wins, they can have a share or take solo 2nd.Now I know that bilog ang bola but still can't help but see it this way---UE beat Adamson and Adamson beat DLSU...shouldn't UE be able to beat DLSU? Ano kaya mas matimbang for Dindo--his loyalty to UE or to DLSU and his brother? We don't know what is up these guys' sleeves but we'll somehow get an inkling after this Saturday.

Doesn't the courtside barker calling Doug "Doog" bother any of you? dry.gif
Ghostrider
Well, I've entertained doubts on the quality of the officiating. Initially I suspected that they were somehow connected to the father of a pg belonging to a rival school. However, I recently received reports that the NABRO are quite close to a Morayta school as they practically work there year round as intramural referees and summer league/tune up game regulars.

Certainly, working at such close proximity would create biases in favor of some schools.
Apocrypha
While I seriously doubt that UE will pose much of a challenge for DLSU, I can't help but wonder just how serious Dindo/Derek are about putting one over on Franz. La Salle can ill afford a 3rd loss in the first round, and the alumni pressure to keep winning games must be enormous. Not to cast any aspersions, but I am eager to watch out how hard they'll try to beat their brother.

Nakakasama ng loob na pwera lang sa iilan wala masyadong nanonood ng Women's at Juniors' basketball. Team din po natin sila!

I don't know if this is going to sound like a fangrrl thing, but this has been rattling around in my head for the past few days and this is the perfect thread to let it out:

I used to think that Colorado Avalanche left wing Paul Kariya was cute, but now all I can think of is his striking resemblance to a certain Adamson Falcons coach...

Seriously, guys, click on the link. The resemblance is freakin' creepy.

im still clueless on why the coaching staff wont let jobe play yet unsure.gif and yes i guess the barker should really make the correction in regards to doug's name...mejo nakakainis na. how many years ago it waAs " foul paolo BOGIA" dry.gif

kala ko naman kami lang ng friends ko yung na-bo-bother about the pronounciation thing. kakaiba talaga,eh.

JC Intal, for Doog Kremer.

parang what the hell??? i thought nung una na-barok lang siya or something. but NO! ganun talaga pagpronounce niya ng Doug,eh...
5FootCarrot
I think I can do a better job than the court announcer, but I don't have the voice for it. Dapat siguro may sariling barker ang bawat team para tama yung pronunciation ng mga pangalan, and maybe for some color, too tongue.gif

"Foul on No. 21, Paolo Bugia, although I didn't see it and the entire crowd didn't see it and the coaches didn't see it and the other team didn't see it...ref, talaga bang tunay na nagmemeron yang foul na yan?"

EDITED TO ADD: "Tenorio, 3 pooooints! Lundagin mo, beybe!"
BLUE HORSE
Pasensiya na kayo, matigas talaga ang dila ng barker. Hindi kasi sila Arrrrneeoow graduate! tongue.gif Seriously, the least the barkers can do is talk to team management before each game and check for the right pronunciation of players name.

I think that's what pro barkers do, especially the ones who work hockey games and have to contend with multisyllabic Eastern European last names. At least I know of one who spells "Janne Niinamaa" as "YAW-knee Knee-NAH-mah" so he can pronounce it properly without the aid of a Finnish dictionary cool.gif

Makes you wonder how they're going to pronounce Jobe's name when he does something. "Substitution, Jo-beh Nnnn...Nnnn...anak, huwag ka na lang kaya maglaro."

Tough sked for the Blue Eagles. Two Final 4 climbers and two Final 4 favorites.ANy of these teams can trip us and give us our first loss. All the more reason we need our 6th man, the Ateneo Gallery, in full force during the games.

Let the war begin.

are we getting good at training our players or do we have a keen eye for talent or are we just plain lucky?

bugs - came into the league in 99. the least heralded big man in his batch that included kong, ramos, espiritu, layug (adamson), jones, estrada. he was awkward, clumsy and timid. people said he was too soft. now it seems he'll be the only big man from that batch who'll play in the PBA.

JC - wasn't he supposed to be a mere consolation prize after we lost out on jr reyes?

BJ vs Larry/Wes - wasn't bj supposed to be the can't-miss prospect? wasn't BJ supposedly the best among the AHS swingmen of that era? even without the injuries, i think bj had already been left behind larry and wes. think of all the things larry and wes could do on the court, as opposed to bj who had been reduced to a 3-point specialist and a defensive liability.

LA - we knew he'd be special after his very first play in his very first game. but how could we have known? If, for example, we had a choice between yuri, LA and tabique and all we had was their high school stats, who would we pick? they're all roughly the same size and all had spectacular high school careers. would we have picked yuri who's a steady pass-first pointguard? or tabique who averaged over 20ppg in high school? would we have taken the risk with LA who had a rep for being out of control? does Ateneo get credit for turning him into a special player, or was Ateneo lucky that it got someone who'd eventually turn out to be a special player?

Speaking of new recruits, check out the column of Janelle So in the Philstar. There is a group of fil-ams coming to town and they are talking of applying in DLSU or ADMU. Looking at the present line-up of DLSU whose only fil-am remaining is Cardona, will they try to get the guards or the only 4-5 in the line-up. Remember, DLSU was successful when they had a lot of fil-ams. REmember Cortez, Ramos, WIlson, Castro and Allado. Talk n text is sponsoring. Do we have an inside track?

Prof, sabi sa akin nung driver ni MVP atin na daw ang mga Fil-Am! wink.gif

Has anyone noticed Araneta is already selling beer? P40 a can! I can only imagine the mayhem if a 14 BP was held DURING A GAME!

As for the munchies, yeah, them burgers are a real bargain and a real treat!

Just wish all that ass-waggling during halftime would go away. If I wanted to see asses waggling I'd go to this place along Taft where the girls get on the table tops after a few beers. Its very near the McDonald's at ... nevermind ... rolleyes.gif

Don't you guys find it funny that when there's a "minor" game for Ateneo say NU,UST,UE our side is still always full while the other side is empty? Eh bakit nagsisiksikan pa din tayo?Hehehe...that's what I call tight wink.gif

...which only goes to show that there are no "minor" games in season 67.

After going through the schedule for the second round, I observed that ALL of our games will have TV coverage. Wala na tayong 1:30 game on a Thursday. Good thing for people who have a hard time getting tickets.

Expect tickets to even be harder to come by with all our games, with the exception of those versus FEU and DLSU, to be played at ULTRA.

What allblue means to say is that tickets for games at the ULTRA will be hard to come by. I think the only games that will not be played there are the ones against DLSU and FEU.

And I think I will save money during this round by just watching the games at home.

Here's some added pressure for the Archers...

It's been an eternity since they've lost three in a row.

Even if I feel our confidence and our APPARENT SUPERIORITY record-wise, I know the proud DLSU will program will do everything they can to avert a 3rd set back tapos another record shattered by us AGAIN.

The game on sunday has the makings of a miracle game.Either by us or THEM!!! It can happen. We can get tripped.Yeo plays his weirdest best against Ateneo and it can happen. We don't have our Hook stopper in Larry.Gaco ONLY plays good against Ateneo.

We have Japeth though...we have the gritty bench mobsters in Kramer,Escalona,Magnum,Badjie. We have LA supremely confident now.Intal has blossomed just in time.

Most importantly, we have the ATENEO 6TH MAN.The most powerful force in the UAAP.

Excited ka yata masyado sa ADMU-DLSU game, pare. DLSU still has a game this Thursday (against NU) before we meet them on Sunday.

Depending on that game's result, we will either meet an Archers' team facing the possibility of a 4-game losing skid or one looking for a 2-game winning streak.

Peace.

saw the following exchange outside ULTRA before the UST game..

Scalper: Ticket. May ticket na kayo, Boss?

Atenean: Meron na po.

Scalper: Baka may extra kayo diyan, boss. Bilhin ko na lang.

Atenean: Wala na po eh. (Looks at his friend and smiles)

Name of Atenean: Dato Arroyo.

Psycho Speaks...on School Pride

Any of you catch the previous La Salle - Ateneo game? The one where La Salle blew a 15-point half time lead? The one that robbed many a Green's wallet and savings accounts of their contents? The one that most of you rubbed in my face the moment you saw me? Yeah, that one.

Well, it got me thinking of several things. Chief among which was how I can get away with bleeding Cardona's throat for choking YET AGAIN! But it also got me remembering about my college days. It seemed like eons ago and yet some feelings seem so fresh today even after 6 years.

I was a diehard Archer fan back then. Win or lose I'd be at the games, cheering and shouting for all I was worth. School Pride. You loved your campus and hated the others.

We all outgrow it eventually. Or do we? Let's test it shall we? Listed below are several schools and what I think of them. Try to see what you feel after reading what this jack-off had to say about your university.

Enjoy.

ATENEO

This school's trademark is arrogance. Nothing more, nothing less. I have, to this day, not met an Atenean who does not think that their school is THE best there is. Even La Sallites and um, uh, UP people (what do you call yourselves anyway?) are not this shamelessly boastful. This does not mean to say however, that they are all pricks and witches. Some of the best buds I have are Ateneans. All two of them. But come on! Seriously, the only thing Ateneo can claim to be the best in is creating a 2-hour gridlock over a road stretching 3 damned kilometers!!!

Oh, and Interdisciplinary Studies is NOT a course. It's Jesuit charity for the incurably dumb and lazy.

ADAMSON

Hmmm, let's see what I can say about Adamson. Well, there's the fact their school color is blue like Ateneo. Their team mascot is a bird like Ateneo. Aside from that, there's not a shred else. Damn this school is boring.

FEU and UE

Do any of you know what FEU stands for? Forever Useless! Yes, I'm an ass. But joking aside, the Far Eastern University and the University of the East are two schools whose names imply that at least one of them was founded by a group of people who had the creative, artistic, and imaginative prowess of a pile of rocks.

Seriously though, these are feel good schools. If you don't believe me try visiting either campus. The moment you see them, you start feeling good that you don't go there.

UP

Here's a school that, for better or worse, is totally bereft of any identity. Some people regard it as THE premier educational institution in the country. There are those who, for good reason, look at it simply as one big vicious playground. And others see it as a breeding ground for militant wannabe rebels who try to lobby for whatever cause they deem to be in the country's best interest. For those of you who can truly relate with the latter you have to be in your late 40's or 50's. Shit you're OLD!!! La lang.

I favor the first two views. It really IS the best educational institution there is. And I'm not just saying that because I'm surrounded all day by UP graduates who'd just as soon throw me off the 11th floor balcony given the slightest provocation as look at me. I really, really do believe...that they will kill me if I say anything bad against UP. Can you blame me? The only thing longer than the list of UP's distinguished alumni (Miriam Defensor included) is the list of all the in-campus violence. There's a psycho lurking deep inside each UP educated man/woman/child. This will be confirmed by the amount of hate mail I'll be receiving from them.

UST

Here's a school that will totally drag down one's social status just by being enrolled in it. I don't care how rich you are or how cultured you may be, if you're from UST it don't mean shit. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I know of several obnoxious AB kids who were brought down several pegs while studying there and are now some of the nicest, most unassuming people to walk this planet.

It's funny to note how much this place of learning mirrors the current social state of the country every time the UAAP season kicks in. Come the basketball tournament, they're all friends. You see them chanting, clapping, and giving each other high-fives. United by a common goal, the rich and the poor are united as one. After the event is passed, they all go back to hating each other.

DLSU

Di Lumusot Sa UPCAT. That's a classic ain't it? It's as hilarious now as it was when I first heard it in 1994, which is to say, it's about as funny as getting kicked in the crotch. It's sad to note for a proud alumnus such as myself that a school with as impressive an academic pedigree as La Salle has become nothing more than a money-hungry institution whose only requirements for acceptance nowadays seem to be a pulse, an IQ over 80, and the financial capacity/ability to pay.

Nowadays, whenever I incounter a person clayming to be from La Sall and they speech bad, have poor grammage, and cannot spill correctness, I am not surprice.

NU

I'm not even sure if this place is a real school. And I don't mean that in a snooty-you're-nothing-compared-to-my-school way. I mean I'm not even sure this place actually exists. I actually started believing that its initials really stood for Negative sa UPCAT.

Think about it. Do any of you really know anyone from NU? Do any of you even know of anyone who knows anybody from NU?

And if any of you even point to their basketball team and the audience that watches its games as proof of its existence, I beg you to think of this point. They act like absolute maniacs and they even look the part.

If we go by that, then the National University is not a school. It's a correctional facility.

CSB

This school has had a bad rep since the day of its inception. Admittedly, it started out as a place where DLSU can deposit its non-performing students so as not to give up the sizeable revenues from those hopeless bastards who have the money to shell out but not the ability to count it. Everybody knows this already.

What people don't know is that CSB now boasts of fine world class courses designed to equip the Benildean with the tools necessary to succeed in the real world. These courses include Basic Arithmetic majoring in the Multiplication Table, Whining with a specialization on Tantrums, and the ever popular Strategic Investments: What to do with your Parents' Money.

CRC/UAP

Them Opus Dei folks can slap it with whatever initials they deem fit, it would still not change the fact that this school will forever be known not by its academic achievements but more by the fact that it is the only school with a car to student ratio nearing 1:1. (No my dear
CSB students and alums, that is not read as one colon one.)

The meanest thing one can say about CRC is that it's a school filled with students rich enough to be Ateneans, but will never be smart enough to be such. The nicest thing one can say about CRC is that it's near a Starbucks open until 2 am.

Now I realize I might have offended some people out there. Let me tell you right now that I am whole-heartedly and humbly sorry. I am sorry that you have no sense of humor and nobody had the heart to whack your uptight head when you were growing up.

For those of you did appreciate this, I give seminars on insensitivity and creatively callous writing. Feel free to email me.

Peace and chill folks.

-psycho!!!

You know what, it was my first time to try the burger in Araneta. I, too, used to settle for the pizza. But of all the days for me to try the burger for the first time, we lost. That was the first time this season that I have watched live and our team lost... hhhhmmmmm..... maybe I should stay away from the burger laugh.gif

On a side note, I was just thinking that we have lost to two teams this season so far (hopefully never again): DLSU and UE. Isn't it strange that we lost to two teams coached by a Pumaren? huh.gif

since lower box seats in ultra are "reserved," i can spend more time for a good, hearty (read "no burgers, no hotdogs, no pizza") lunch before going inside the venue itself. anyway, heard dinky's is good. is that true? presyong snaxx lang ba dun? laugh.gif

Eagle Eyes,

You may want to try out Aysee for their super yummy sisig with egg! It's really a heart-attack-on-a-sizzling-plate but well worth it. Pair it with some garlic rice and you're good to go. Sa sarap niyan, sigurado, hanggang 9pm, kayang-kaya mo pa din mag-cheer. tongue.gif

Aysee is just across the service entrance of Ultra, on the side of Valle Verde Country Club. It's also wallet friendly since sisig is only 70 per order.

Sisig? Anyone say sisig?

From this ex-afficionadio's pre-high cholesterol count point of view, a couple of sisig "must-trys" are the old reliable Trellis' and Dencio's (tostado) versions.

Trellis' version will always be classic for me. It reminds me of college and our beer guzzling days of yore. The sisig goes well with their burong hipon that goes with eggplant (and chopped onions yata.)

Dencio's is another story. I hear it has just been acquired by a large food conglomerate (Jollibee foods?) so I dunno' if it still has the same QC. Anyway, ask for their sisig "tostado"- it went really well with their garlic rice and fried tofu with sesame seed sprinkles. Yummy! Sayang, wala na yung isang Dencio, yung Mariano, madali paki-usapan yun pag special request.

As for the Sisig with egg of Allblue, that I'll have to try. (Naalala ko tuloy si Danny Vanni, "SARSI with egg" naman yun, hehehe)

(Naalala ko tuloy si Danny Vanni, "SARSI with egg" naman yun, hehehe)

yo giant, on the money ka when you mentioned trellis'.

pare, the best sisig ive ever laid my eyes and tongue on. i remember those days spent with friends in their forbes branch way before there was the Fort.

danni vanni laugh.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif guy reminded me of kenny loggins (or was it the other way around?) hehe
