Unera said he’s also trying to pave the way for Ateneo rookie Japeth Aguilar, a 6-7 wunderkind, to enroll in an NCAA Division I school.
Rab,
I find it hard to believe the news coming out of Sam Unera given his profession of being a player agent. My reasons are the following:
Does Sam Unera know the NCAA rules? No US university will touch a player who is being fronted by a known agent. Having an agent in the eyes of the NCAA makes the player a professional. It is a known fact that Galinato and Aguilar are suppose to have the same agent but I do not think it is Unera.
I believe Aguilar qualified for Ateneo by taking the DECS exam. He was pulled out of Mapua after the NCAA season to continue his studies at Reedley International School. LaSalle did the same thing with Galinato, Sto. Domingo Academy. I wonder if the NCAA will accept the DEC results in lieu of a high school diploma.
The NCAA also requires the players to have a certain number of core units in the 3R's. I am not sure if they need to take the SAT like student athletes who graduated from American high schools.
Aguilar played well against the UBC college team. But UBC is not a division 1 school. I am sure that UBC could not beat the top high school prep school in the States. The top Canadian players play in the States not for UBC. Aguilar will not be the defensive demon that he is in Manila if he played in the States. Though athletic, he will be undersized to play the 4 or 5 spot.
Rab, who will you pick between Aguilar and Ronny Turiaf of Gonzaga? In a heart beat, Turiaf to play the 4-5 spot for a team. Maybe Aguilar can play for your alma mater since the team badly needs bench help.

You can be his personal tutor!
