i think the team needs to work on its ballhandling when it is pressed. we also had a big lead against la salle and we lost that lead.

Did you guys display the banner in Araneta during the game of the lady Eagles? If not, dapat. The banner is a good luck charm for the players specially for Tioseco.

Our Ladies handle very well, we have very accomplished guards, who happened to be pretty exhausted guards playing the last 11 or so minutes of the FEU game. FEU did a good job shuffling players, making sure they had fresh bodies in for their lategame push. I noticed the FEU coach was pulling his girls in and out at like every four or five minutes. That ensured two things: well-rested players who can outrun a tired team, and nobody gets cold sitting for too long. I noticed the FEU girls started hitting their stride when we were already giving extended minutes to our starting five, and only putting in short stints for Cheryl Ngo, Aileen Grajales and AJ i.e. we basically shortened our bench to eight or nine when we were going up to 11 deep in our previous two games.

Kawawa talaga si Katrina and D-Cay, halata mo sa mga pasa at sa dribble, hingal talagang mga gwardiya, hirap din tuloy sa press break, Tin and Pipay were running into all sorts of FEU walls. Nung OT halata mong pagod na lalo sa free throws, the usual fluid motion coming from the shooting foot was not there. Almost everyone was shooting from the shoulder, flat tuloy ang follow-through. That was a sure sign of fatigue. I was surprised nobody got cramps.

The usual extended parallelogram press break we use didn't work in the late game stretch because our girls were all breathing hard from the mouth. Ganyan nararamdaman ko dati kapag Round 5 pataas na sa Yaw Yan; hirap ka na ngang iangat man lang dalawang kamay mo. And I cannot for the life of me understand why Coach Flores didn't dig a little deeper into his bench, lalo nung third quarter when fatigue was taking its toll. Imagining scoring only NINE POINTS in the thrid after 29 in the first half? We had other girls there ready to go, and they already showed game in our first two games.

Oh well, isang talo pa lang naman 'yan, and FEU si indeed a good team. Kita na lang tayo sa Adamson mga katoto.

We brought the banner and even cheered our lungs and larynxes out! Too bad we were all the way up in Upper A where you'd need glasses to see us, bought the damn tickets too late in the week.

Cassy had a good game, got her usual double-double I think and a couple of blocks. Kaya nga lang, talagang hiningal silang lahat towards the end. Baka 'ka ko hindi sanay sa ginaw ng Big Dome at parang microwave sa Adamson Gym.

That Jose girl of FEU was steady all throughout, matinding poise niya. Don't worry Horse, we'll get the next one.

The loss of the girl from Cebu hurt the team against FEU. I heard she would have given the starters plenty of relief. I trust Adamson and teams like UP and LaSalle will once again attack the guards of Ateneo because this is the teams weakest link. To much reliance on Quimpo and Caynap, both girls are definitely earning their tuition for the team.

I thought refs would call it tighter in the Women's game but you should see all the grabbing and holding they let the players get away with. Cassy gets the same because of her size, parating may pabaon na siko sa kanya ang mga bantay niya.

Cassy Tioseco, Kat Quimpo, Carolyn Tanchi and Danica Caynap all participated in a 1-minute shootout yesterday in Quad 2 (area between rizal library and colayco). They were really very good. Danica Caynap topscored with 24 shots in one minute, she beat LA Tenorio's score of 23.

Big Shout Out to our Lady Eagles who scared the living bejezus out of defending Women's champion Adamson, coming just short 45-44. Cheryl Ngo missed an off-balanced lay-up in the last 2.1 seconds that could've won the game for us. Cheryl was tough all throughout the game, scattering bodies, grabbing rebounds and helping break the Adamson press. She is my best player of the game for that one. I guess it helps to be the one to pick up the team psychologist on your way to the game. Adamson raced to a 15-5 spread to start the game but we took the half 23-22 on a nifty up-and-under by Cassandra. We even led 40-35 going into the last 4 minutes or so until Adamson went on a tear courtesy of Arayi and Gadian.

I have no stat line on Cassy Tioseco although I'll be damned if she did not get her usual double-double, grabbing rebounds, scoring underneath and generally altering shots she didn't swat. Hats off to Caroline Tanchi for the great third quarter defense on Adamson star Arayi. Aileen Grajales had a pretty good game and was rewarded with more than her usual minutes.

Coach Flores had a better rotation, making sure we would not get run off the floor like last time. We had Kat Quimpo, D-Cay, Stephanie Villanueva, Tin Chua, Cassandra, AJ Barracoso, Macky Herrera, Caroline Tanchi, Grajales, even Sy in the rotation, all of them getting good minutes allowing our starters to get good rest time.

Some game notes:

Adamson was all over us with their press, with Katrina and Pipay running into all sorts of trouble early on. We were able to put together our own press break in the second half but Adamson was still generating a lot of turnovers from us. Bad freethrow shooting came back to haunt us as our girls missed something like five fourth quarter freethrows that could have changed the complexion of the game. I am not absolutely sure but I think we did not make a single trey in that game.

I've a bone to pick with the Babble. How is it there were at least 52 guys and four girls for the Men's game agaisnt UE yet not a single one of you showed up for the Women's game? We were in hostile territory and there couldn't have been more than a dozen guys rooting for Ateneo in Adamson's homecourt! Out of a grand total of maybe 60 members you couldn't even send three or four guys over even without drums to cheer on our Ladies? Our Ladies really needed all the support yesterday morning, and the only people there were the banner guys, Cassy's family, one or two other parents and Mr Capistrano. I thought the Babble was for ALL our varsity teams?

Cassandra had MVP numbers pala: 22 points and 17 boards! *whooping and applause*

My bad and my apologies to the Babble, apparently they were still in the semestral torment known as MIDTERMS, thus the absence at the Adamson game.

I know Blue Fuel and his merry gang will make up for it next game.

One Big Fight!

Hearing Sunday Mass at the Adamson Chapel is such a refreshing experience. For fear I had jinxed my beloved Lady Eagles I decided not to watch theie game against UP yesterday. So with the trusty Cassy Banner guys in tow, we instead decided to hear mass at the neighboring chapel and wait out the game. Needless to say the jinx seems broken as the Lady Eagles pulled a 57-52 victory over UP.

AJ Barracoso had a near-triple double with (unofficially) 10 points, 10 boards and 9 BLOCKS! AJ made up for Cassandra's referee-aided poor game. Reports have it that as usual the referees missed my usual "paglalambing" from yonder mezzanine at the north basket of the Adamson Gym and were so whistle happy on Cassandra they were blowing her for fouls for merely EXHALING in the direction of an opposing player. Ang masasabi ko lang sa mga NABRO are the immortal words of Sen. Fred Lim when he was Mayor of Manila, "Kapag ipinagpatuloy nilang ganyang gawain may paglalagyan sila."

Ladies I promise I shall return to my familiar perch in your next game. Well done on UP, bring on the UE Amazons!

On a side note Joe:

I was saddened by the acts of the Coach of the UP Lady Maroons.

Last year, even without a protest, the Lady Eagles voluntarily forfeited their game against UP because of an unnoticed violation of the rules. This was a difficult decision but our Lady Eagles made it and showed all and sundry the integrity they embody.

Yesterday, the Lady Eagles brought their light colored uniform instead of their dark colored uniform. It was 7:00 a.m. when this was discovered and the game was set for 8:00 a.m. The Lady Eagles were facing a forfeit. The only way out could have been if the UP Coach allowed the game to go on. He refused. He wanted to win on a technicality. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Panic time.

The parents and staff of the Lady Eagles scrambled to get their uniforms from various places. The jerseys were being repaired and the shorts were in the dorms. Whew! By game time, they had at least five complete uniforms. Some members of the starting five still did not have their correct shorts so we started with a different set of players.

To top it all, UP had their cheering squad booming with: "Matatalino, matatapang . . etc." Sana sinama na lang nila sa cheer nila: "Kung pwede, manggugulang . . . . Unibersidad ng . . . Kayabangan!"

The situation became the rallying point of the Lady Eagles who dominated the game. It was a lesson in sportsmanship.

Amazing indeed. Trying to win on a technicality. I always thought games were best decided on the court, but apparently some people will do anything for an easy W.

Just want to say that I saw Kat and Cassy in their WNBA commercial and they were great in it. As a matter of fact, all the players featured were well-spoken young women. Rock on, ladies!

This just in: Lady Eagles wallop UE Amazons 74-58 to close out their first round at 4-2. Good show Ladies! AJ led the way with 15 points. Cassandra didn't play, had something wrong with her eye. Ok na din or we would have won by like 60. Great show Ladies! On to the second round!

I've been meaning to watch a game for so long. I hope I get to watch at least once in the 2d round. Saan nga ba ang Adamson? (Teka, malamang natanong na 'to dati...)

If you are coming from Ateneo your best bet is to take the Megatren at Katipunan Station and get off at Legarda Station. From there walk towards San Sebastian Church, you cannot miss its twin steeples. At San Sebastian take the SM Manila jeepney and get off at SM Manila itself, that would be San Marcelino street. Walk along San Marcelino, that is Adamson's street as well. You have two major landmarks to guide you: SM Manila and the Manila City Hall. If you are anywhere in that vicinity you are no more than 15 minutes away from Adamson on foot.

If you are coming anywhere from EDSA, I suggest you take the MRT to Cubao Station then take the Megatren as specified above. Games are usually on Sundays at around 9:30 am. Tell the NSTP guards you are watching the UAAP and they won't give you lip.

If you live anywhere acccessible by the LRT along Taft and Avenida that would be even better since you could simply get off at UN Avenue Station and walk to Adamson from there. From the LRT you can already see the Adamson Gym. Same thing would apply to those commuting via Quezon Avenue, E Rodriguez and Espana, go down at UN Avenue or better still Kalaw.

These directions would apply as well to those who are driving, although parking is limited in Adamson itself.

with the way these two teams are slugging it out with the opposition and displaying their own versions of ateneo heart, they deserve nothing less than the noise and love we've constantly showered on the eagles.

You may want to talk to the Babble about that. kasi kung gallery at gallery rin lang meron naman tayo every game sa Women's and Juniors. Kahit nga the last game against UP nung Sunday the Ateneo parents were wondering where our Babble guys were, kasi the first three games ng Lady Eagles they were able to send a crew of about eight or nine guys and even a couple of drums. Tapos biglang nawala nung Adamson game (understandable because it was on a weekday morning during Midterms) and inexplicably kahit pala nung UP game nung Sunday. Samantalang nandun sila in full force for the Men's game that same afternoon at Philsports.

Thanks joe. I thank God for the privilege of taking those pics. I actually want to go to more of the women's games, problema lang kasi is first, schedules (Wed mornings), and second, ang layo. Sunday games are a problem too coz they tend to overlap with the men's schedule, plus I need to cover volleyball too, Sundays din yon. I wish I could split myself in three.

If coming from Ateneo just go via Aurora Blvd, sundan mo lang ang Megatren (its right above you along Aurora). When you get to the corner of Legarda and CM Recto keep going straight ahead and cross Ayala Bridge (you will know it is Ayala Bridge when you see the Department of Budget and Management, DBM, on your left side, once you are on the bridge itself Hospico De San Jose is on your left side as well). Turn right as soon as you get down from the bridge and follow that little street, turn left at SM Manila, that is San Marcelino, srteet na mismo ng Adamson. Just keep going until you see Adamson itself, the gym is on the gate on your right guarded by ROTC cadets, pasok ka lang and say sa UAAP ka.

Ateneo beat UP, 60-53, in overtime. Go Ateneo!

CONGRATULATIONS LADY EAGLES!!!!!!

Our Lady Eagles outlasted a game but outhustled UP squad 61-53 in OT last Sunday. (Sorry for the late post, just came from Lipa)

We are now at 5-2 and running just behind the defending champion Adamson Lady Falcons who are at 6-1.

Steady free throw shooting from Tin Chua, Pipay Villanueva and the Great Cassandra helped us seal the win. Special kudos to the game long brilliance of point guard Kat Quimpo, who had an answer for everything Roma, Tolentino, Canlas and Marasigan of UP threw at us.

Big Shout Out to the nine Babble guys who made the game. Sabi sa inyo mas ganado Ladies natin basta nandun kayo e.

Next up are the Lasalle Lady Archers on Thursday, although I don't know what time the game starts.
