Thanks Joe!
Even though we support all Ateneo teams, it's always nice to support a winner. Joe and Cack, you guys really crack me up with your comments.
Carrot, PFC, Salsa, marlorustia... missed you guys. You would've loved cheering for our Lady Eagles.

Congratulations to our Lady Eagles!
I was also there at Acropolis! I didn't want this historic event to pass me by!

Kudos to the team and to the coaching staff!... Defense wins championships. and the girls proved just that.
on a side note: nakasabay namin si Kathy dumating sa gym... naliligaw pa nga siya kung saan yung entrance. i asked her why she arrived late and she said that she had an opman defense.

Congratulations also to our Graduating Lady Eagles! An Ateneo Diploma is just as good (or even better) than any championship!

We'd like to thank the Lady Eagles, Coach John, and the Admin Folk who were kind enough na paunlakan naman ang aming munting salo-salo para sa kanilang MGA tagumpay. The 1-2-3 game that Carolyn Tanchi initiated was a most raucous and very much welcome ice breaker for the Men's team players who also came that evening. I was told after the party that a certain "isolation play" was actually cooked up for the 1-2-3 game to get two people there more, uh, acquainted with each other. I hope that turns out all for the better, and I must say it couldn't have happened to a nicer pair of people. (Pair na nga ba...?

)
Speaking of Carolyn, Proctor and Gamble awardee pala siya and she had an interesting on-stage anecdote, the telling of which is best left to her should any of you ever run into her, it was HILARIOUS!
And speaking of graduation, congratulations to the Team Captains, all of whom graduated ON TIME thank you very much! Pipay, D-cay and Tin. If memory serves Banans and Kathy Tan also graduated. Hay naku... partida na 'yan sa ibang team ha, madalas mapuyat kakaaral mga bata namin!

The team will not be releasing its final lineup for next season yet. Apparently there are a few up-and-coming players from our own Ladies B Team, apart from a handful of recruits, that might make the grade. And since the Ladies are not seeing action in the Martin for the summer, they are taking their time evaluating the talent we have on hand. Stay tuned for further developments over the summer. Don't sweat it, the lineup for last season didn't come until the end of last summer's Martin, mga bandang late May na din.

Offseason strength and conditioning is the key to a successful run into the regular season. Getting stronger with weights, calisthenics and even crosstraining (like say boxing) allows the body the room it needs for growth and sustainable power across the board. This in turn allows for slamming into unwitting opponents who think Ateneo women are all country club princesses who haven't got what it takes to play the combat basketball of the UAAP.

THOUGHT ON SEASON 68
by Coach John Flores - Ateneo Lady Eagles
Season 67 was a rewarding year for the Lady Eagles. All the lessons learned from the UAAP and the post UAAP tournaments will be valuable for our preparations for the coming season.
The previous season was the year the whole team came together. It was a time for learning and discovery for all of us. The UAAP finals brought out the best in our team. Our girls played an opponent rich in experience and took the series to the distance. We were able to prove what we have been saying all along, Skills, smarts and teamwork can offset athleticism and experience. Well, we almost did.
We also discovered a lot of things about ourselves as individuals and as a team. There was a time when we had to do battle with our inner demons. Just like any team, we had our shares of doubts and external influence that could have broken our team. The trip to Dumaguete put an end to all of that. The team was together again, we were by ourselves, doing what we do best, relying on each other, fighting together as one to bring honor and glory to God and Ateneo. In Dumaguete, I found out that if a team is left alone to fend for themselves, they discover that the real battle will forever be fought inside the four corners of the court and not outside of it. I am glad that we were able to rekindle the bond that kept us strong the last four years. I discovered that during difficult times, I could rely on the strength of character of my team.
At the start of last season, questions were raised on who would take over the leadership of the team. Tin, Pipay, Dcay let their play do the talking and everyone else followed their lead. I am particularly happy for Dcay, somehow she found a way to grow up quickly. Dcay’s growth in terms of maturity and creativity surprised even myself. We all knew that it would only be a matter of time before the three captains took the brave step forward and seize the reins of leadership.
I also enjoyed watching Carolyn play with confidence last year, her true blue collar attitude was a blessing for us.
The Recruitment Class of 2003 and 2004 gave us a glimpse of the future. We all saw the MVP play and focus of Cassy, the courage of Kat and the increasing confidence of Che. AJ will adjust to the system next season, we expect her to be even more confident and dominating.
The best way to evaluate the maturity of a team is to observe how well the players accept their roles. Cathy, Tere, Ana, Kring and Macky; all part of the “Lulubelles” performed their roles beyond expectations. Our starters and back ups looked good in games because our “Lullubelles” gave them fits in practice.
We will miss Macky in Season 68, next season was suppose to be her year. Aileen’s raw courage and toughness will be very hard to replace, we will miss our spark plug.
The recruitment class of 2005 was not as deep compared to the previous years. We were still able to get a couple of recruits that will help our system of reloading. We hope that they can adjust quickly and make an impact next season.
Our staff remains intact, Coach Ron, Coach Haydee, and Coach Joey will continue to help in bringing out the best in our girls. Coach Rico Perez will come onboard this season. We are fortunate to have Coach Rico, his guard play skills will be valuable to the team.
The long season required us to give the team three weeks of rest. They deserve to be “regular girls” again and spend quality time with family and friends. Next week we all go back to practice. The Off-season and the Pre-season is the best time for the team to reboot. We are going full blast on fundamentals, reinforcing good habits and doing away with the bad. We will take advantage of the lull to catch up on our strength and conditioning. This is the rationale behind our absence in the Fr. Martin Cup this summer. We felt that the experience we needed to play at the next level was acquired during the post UAAP season.
All the important lessons that we learned last season will be crucial to our preparations for Season 68. I am truly excited about the idea of working with a team that is wiser and tougher. I look forward to being on court with a seasoned group of girls whose strength is their trust and reliance in one another. This years Lady Eagles will be a team with experience, one forged in adversity and toughened by competition.
Despite the modest achievements that we have accomplished, we must constantly remind ourselves to be always humble. We must always remember that whatever we have today came from all the pain and effort that we put in each day of practice. We will always be grateful to all the people who inspired and stood by us the whole season.
Notes: astig, Coach Rico Perez of NU Bulldogs will be our Assistant Coach.

The Dandans, Manny and Ricky, Rico Perez and Ladies Eagles Coach John Flores are longtime friends and proteges of the great Joe Lipa.

The Lady Eagles, including 3 rookies and 1 utility person, are trying to raise additional funds for their exposure trip to Bangkok, Thailand, where they will be playing against 4-5 Thai teams.
The trip is scheduled for 2-5 June 2005, but three (3) roundtrip tickets are still needed.
If you can lend the girls and hand, please send your contribution directly to Coach John Flores, and specify that it is "FOR LADY EAGLES' BANGKOK TRIP."

Allen Iverson straightened his hair and masqueraded as a girl baller trying out for the RP Women's team.
Ay, si Ems Matreo pala 'yon... That hesitation dribble and crossover could've fooled me. Actually it was the scooting fadeaway jumper. No, it was the shuffle step. No, ... well, whatever, I could've sworn it was Allen Iverson...
(Peace tayo Ems ha!)
