Before the start of the game, Coach John Flores emphasized the strength of the inside game of University of Mindanao because of their big players. He told the girls to be aggressive on rebounding and watch out for the put back. Then he told the girls to "run them down until they get cross-eyed!"

Gametime in a jampacked gym greeted our girls with banners made overnight for Ateneo, Dcay Caynap, and Che Ngo. A poster was also made requesting Coach John to field in Number 16 (Krissy Tiu).

It was a rough defensive game with our girls meeting the aggression of the skinheads. Quarter scoring is as follows:

1st Quarter 16 - 8
2nd Quarter 45 - 21
3rd Quarter 65 - 34
4th Quarter 74 - 48

Box Scores:

Che Ngo 14, Cassy Tioseco 12, Kat Quimpo 11, Pipay Villanueva 9, Dcay Caynap 8, Aileen Grajales 6, Carolyn Tanchi 4, AJ Barracoso 3, Kring Leyco 3, Tin Chua 2.

Coach John could not give in to the request to field in Tiu as the game was too rough. Other teams are really now so baffled because they do not know who and how to guard Ateneo. This is because different players have risen to lead the fight in each of the games. Chalk this defensive game to the Destroyer, Che Ngo.

As the Final Buzzer rang, the girls were rushed to the dugout as the crowd started pressing in. The fans had to be locked out this time to avoid the mobbing. The fans formed a long line and patiently handed in Backpacks, T Shirts, Note Books, and pictures of yesterdays game (apparently developed overnight) for autographs. After the laborious signing, the girls exited through a back door and were sped away.

Hmmm. Malapit nang ampunin sa Dumaguete ang mga girls natin. blink.gif

Our Lady Eagles scored a come-from-behind 42-40 win against the hardfighting FEU Lady tams at the Loyola Center yesterday. Down by as much as 34-22, the newly-crowned National Titlists leaned once again on the steadying influence of senior Danica Caynap, and the timely shooting of Pipay Villanueva to outlast the Lady Tams.

Although they didn't practice at all for this game due to academic catching up and carry-over fatigue from their Dumaguete conquest, the Ladies dug deep to pull off the win. Coach John Flores made timely adjustments in the second half to take the tempo away from FEU. Lady Tams Jose (#12) and Adriano (#6, younger sister of the PBA's Kiko Adriano) look to be big problems for the rest fo the UAAP next year, with their size, athleticism and steady shooting.

We face the Lasalle Lady Archers this Saturday 12 Narch 2005 at 4pm sa Loyola Center ulit for the Home and Away Championship, Women's Division.

Speaking of Danica Caynap, she also happened to be the steadying factor during the tough championship game against PMI in Dumaguete. To those who think she's a little too slight of build and doesn't have the skill to play point, y'all can stick that where the sun don't shine! This girl's got major league GAME! Oh, and she's also graduating on time next Friday I believe, congratulations D-Cay, and thanks for showing that true leadership isn't just about the stat line, its about composure, consistency and class.
john_paul_manahan
i watched the game.

feu led by 40-31 at around 6+ minutes to go. they never scored again, we scored 11.

we played very well defensively. our shots finally fell when it was needed. hindi sila nagmadali.

great job. meron pang article about carolyn if i'm not mistaken sa guidon.

BLUE HORSE
Some DLSU fans are rallying their own troops to invade BEG this Saturday for the championship game. It will be like a regular season game of the mens team because both sides are hoping to bring their cheerleaders and band.

Does anybody know who are the organizers? The LaSalle fans are complaining why the game is once again being played in BEG and not their home court. I do not think the team had anything to do about the scheduling but they should have scheduled it at a neutral gym that could sit a large number of fans. Since it is LaSalle/Ateneo for the championship, BEG was the biggest gym available wherein the organizers did not have to pay rent.

jancarlo, what kind of a description is "magmumukha tayong tanga"? mad.gif

Even though the BBB does not show up - although I hope that they do - the Ateneo gallery will not look "tanga" if the people who do show up to watch the game cheer for the girls and support them wholeheartedly. And I can assure you that quite a few of the Ateneo faithful who do plan to watch tomorrow can put the entire DLRT gallery to shame all by themselves.

Ghostrider is correct. The Blue Eagle gym is booked for the ABL championships and the game scheds can not be moved anymore. The Organizers together with Mr. Ricky Palou is still trying to get an alternative venue.

Will update you as soon as I get word from the University Athletics Office as to the new venue. smile.gif

for newbies to the ladies' game who might want to pick up valuable pointers on inside footwork and beating defenders off the pivot, you might want to check tin chua, who wears jersey no.9. she's the lady eagles' do-everything workhorse and most versatile player. honestly, i've seen her split double teams inside the paint i thought nobody can escape from. she's an excellent ballhandler and passer as well, but it's her drop steps that leave fans in awe. go catch her on saturday when ateneo meets la salle at acropolis gym.

Congratulations to our Lady Eagles for winning the Home and Away League in a masterful fashion with a final score of 61 to 54.

It was a close contest with La Salle leading most of the way. This was the situation for the first three quarters.

The Lady Eagles then clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter to pull away, leaving La Salle fouling crazy to stop the clock and hope for a miracle.

Kudos to the coaching staff. The individual defensive skills of the Lady Eagles are a class of their own. They know how to break the press handily and out-posiiton their defensive assignments. They execute the behind the back dribble with such ease and as if it is second nature. The painstaking work and training is so evident.

Scores:

Pipay Villanueva 13 (1 blk, 4 rebs), Cassy Tioseco 10 (6 blks, 6 rebs), Tin Chua 11 (2 blks, 7 rebs), Grajales 7 (2 rebs), Che Ngo 6 (5 rebs), Kat Quimpo 5 (3 rebs), Dcay Caynap 5 (2 rebs), AJ Barracoso 2 (4 rebs), Carolyn Tanchi 2.

woooooohooooooooo! galeng! galeng talaga! biggrin.gif was fortunate enough to watch the game yesterday, kahit ang init sa gym okay lang. the trip to acropolis was worth it,the ladies showed and stamped their class over their rivals. though i must admit that the lady archers were no push overs....the contest was tight for 3 quarters.

magaling talaga si tin chua and cassy (actually lahat naman ng pinasok ni coach flores delivered). i hope that the men's team picks up a thing or two from their lady counterparts and that it to play every game as if its your last.

talagang loose ball was dived upon by players.....and to top it all kahit wala yung babble malakas pa rin a cheering ng ateneo supporters!. haaaay sana UAAP na!

great game ladies!....keep it up! biggrin.gif

Three Championships in three weeks! Correct me if I am wrong, if I remember it right, they won their NCR Finals last March 21,2005,they flew to Dumaguete the following weekend for their second crown, and a national crown at that! Then they won the HAIL finals yesterday.

It goes to show that our Lady Eagles are truly a tough bunch. Any ordinary team would be happy with less than what our girls have achieved. Winning championships I hope has become a habit for this resilient team.

Despite all the rumors going around about the troubles plaguing the Lady Eagles, they go on playing like a team on a mission. This team may have found the right formula for neutralizing all forms of distractions.

Have they grown up as a team? You bet they have! I saw the game versus FEU last Wednesday and the way they played showed the confidence and poise these kids have developed. The best way to guarantee this team's success is leave this team alone (haven't we learned from the seniors yet?). Let the coaches and players realtionship grow. And to some of the parents, well.....do what you do best, JUST BE LOVING PARENTS.

Congratulations to the Lady Eagles!

NCR Champions...

National Titlists...

Home and Away Champions...

Well, I guess we all know what comes next. U-A-A-P!

11-all at the end of the first quarter, 30-29 Lasalle at halftime, 41-all at the end of the third. Then all hell broke loose... 10-0 run on nifty fastbreaks and great set shots had the Ladies up 51-41 still a little over 6 minutes left and a bunch of fans singing "Fly High". It went up as much as 54-43, but never got closer than 54-48.

While everyone was being awed by the drop step of Tin, the inside rule of the great Cassandra, the long toms of Pipay and the masterful leadership of D-cay, the little things that spelled the difference were a joy to behold.

Carolyn Tanchi could've easily been the leading scorer were it not for some really shitty charging calls on her, but she proved steady hitting three straight jumpers when Lasalle was threatening a comeback late in the fourth.

Che Ngo put the clamps on the entire Lasalle perimeter that had allowed the Lady Archers to dictate the tempo for three quarters. Our very own Destroyer was at her finest, denying Huelar, Alon-alon and even Glorianni from once again bombing away from outside.

Mon Jose and Dominic Uy took all of 6 or 7 minutes to figure out that John Flores had taken away their perimeter game. That matchup D by our Ladies was positively gruelling, leaving the greenies huffing and puffing. Kristine Prado was practically high-fiving the ball into the swatting arms of the great Cassandra, ditto the other Lasalle forwards. Grabe resistensiya ng mga Ladies natin, start to finish na walang patid ang press break at matchup sa extended foul-line.

Hey guys,

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the DLSU Lady Archers for a hard-fought HAIL championship game. You Lady Archers should hold your heads high. You have great players and your team will only get better. I'm really looking forward to the ADMU-DLSU ladies matchup in S68.

Now here's a big congratulations to the champs... the classiest, most efficient, and hard-fighting team out there... the Ateneo de Manila Lady Eagles! The Acropolis gym was incredibly hot but hey, we hardcore fans have endured such heat cheering for our beloved Team B.

Here are some observations:

a) Dcay calling for everyone to begin warmups with Carolyn and Kat still on the bench studying
cool.gif Ateneo fans heaving a sigh of relief when Cassy walked in with minutes to spare before the start of the game
c) Ateneo fans cheering wildly when Kathy Tan walked in with a sheepish grin late in the 3rd quarter (i think)
d) The singing of "Fly High" and "Roll out the Victory" was great!
e) The incredible support of the Ateneo fans all thoughout the game with cheers of "Get that Ball" and "Go Ateneo, One Big Fight"

As for the Lady Eagles, what I will always remember is:

a) Cassy's defense on Prado
cool.gif Dcay and Tin's on-court leadership
c) Pipay's step-back 3-pointer (ala LA)
d) Che Ngo's running jumper which doused a Lasalle rally
e) Carolyn's jumper which put us up by ten

GO LADY EAGLES! And by the way, good luck in all your final exams!
