maybe you can lend your position as ateneo team manager to help out our lady eagles.
ai!caramba!
The Adamson Lady Falcons are the defending NCR champs. I saw the game last year, our Lady Eagles lost by 2 points in overtime. It was an exciting game, Erika Dy and Karla Larosa were still playing for the team. Lyceum College beat us in the National Finals held in Lucena last year.

This year was payback time for the Lady Eagles. Despite being relegated to number 2 spot due to the loss to PMI, our gutsy Lady Eagles had to face the vaunted Lady Falcons in the semis crossover. They prevailed and it was sweet revenge for our tough ladies last Monday against PMI.

I am really proud of the Lady Eagles performance during the NCR semis, it showed that despite all the odds, they are capable of coming back big.

Why were Carolyn Tanchi and Teresa Sy not present during the finals last Monday?
I wasn't able to ask coach Flores because he went straight to the locker rooms right after the photo session.

As for the financial support, I guess all teams not involved with the men's basketball team share the same situation. The UAO probably has limited resources to aid all the sports program. The other UAAP schools have thesame gripes as ours, so we are not alone in this.

I was approached by a friend of mine and informed me of our Lady Dribblers fund drive for next season. He told me of how the coaching staff sold the idea to him, it was quite amusing. biggrin.gif Lahat ng lasenggo hinihingan!

For anonymous donors, who should we send it to?

Good luck in Dumaguete! Bring home the crown ladies!
joescoundrel
Before we bring the crown home we have to get the team over to Dumaguete first. Dig deep people, a little goes a long way. I'd call a meeting but its a little too late for that. You can give your contribution straightaway to the UAO and just ask for a receipt, snd specify that this is for the DUMAGUETE TRIP of the LADY EAGLES.

Grabe Lady Eagles! biggrin.gif

I got money for two plane tickets! I am sending it the UAO!

Sana ganito tayo kasolid sa lahat ng sports!

The Lady Eagles may have started something big!

Thanks.

Status So Far:

(1) There is cash for two (2) tickets;
(2) P2,000.00 check;
(3) P500.00 pledge;
(4) Offer (Mother Goose) to arrange for more tickets;
(5) Sleeping quarters for four (4) people;
(6) Two (2) more houses subject to confirmation.

There are inquiries from somebody in Hong Kong so we are arranging that the funds will go directly to the account of Team Captain Tin Chua. As soon as it is set, we can disclose the account number. In this way, even small amounts from us who are simple employees but admirers of the way the Lady Eagles play, can put in a little.

I will try to update everybody as often as I can.

Ooops. This just in.

Hey guys,

When are the Lady Eagles leaving for Dumaguete?

Count me in for the Lady Eagles Dumaguete Fund Drive. Is the best way just to send it to Tin's account or the UAO?

code blue, the lady eagles are scheduled to leave friday afternoon. as to your query, i think it's better to send it directly to tin chua's account. after all, she's the team captain smile.gif

good luck and all the best, lady eagles.
joescoundrel
Keep those contributions coming folks. If possible we'd like to get cash or plane tickets right away so at least the transportation is good. Any amount will go along way. These are OUR Lady Eagles carrying our Blue and White so lets send them on their way.

(I was trying to armtwist an Air Force C130 Commander to fly the whole team there but he said the flight bound for Dumaguete had 12 heroes who died with their boots on, bad omen I should think, not exactly the right way to prepare for the national championships...)
joescoundrel
Speaking of the National Championships, we will be facing the best teams from Visayas and Mindanao as well as (all over again, PMI and maybe Adamson). And may I just remind everyone that this NCR Championship is the first title ever of our Ladies. Kakahiya naman kung hindi natin sila matulungang mag-champion na din sa Nationals 'di ba? I am supremely confident the Ladies will bring home the crown. cool.gif

<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>(I want to say "Dumaguete or Bust!" but this being the Ladies' thread, well "bust" seems, uh... never mind... Go Lady Eagles!) </span>

So keep the contributions coming folks!

Thanks Blue Eagle The King, Code Blue, Cubao Fleahouse.

Thanks also to Blue Horse and others from the States who are scrambling to find ways to get even a few of their dollars remitted. Pledges are also so welcome.

The trickels coming in are certainly heartwarming and, before we know it, we could have a pile for the Ladies.

As of now, I think we have enough funds to send our first five and two from the bench. Pwede na. Knowing the Lady Eagles, lalaban 'yan kahit pito lang sila.

The Alumni in Dumaguete are also scrambling to help the Lady Eagles somehow. Indeed, every little amount and every little effort counts.

ONE BIG FIGHT!

Ooops! As of the time of this edit, two more tickets so we can now send nine (9) players to Dumaguete!

Thanks Mother Goose. Paampon naman!

Mukhang photo finish. We might be able to bring the whole team. We are getting volunteers to have a portion of their credit cards swiped to pay the cost of tickets. Then we will find ways to pay them when the pledges come in, hopefully before the month end statement of account kicks in. Whew!

Big shout out to Caveman for the support and grand contribution. Thanks too to the families in Dumaguete volunteering food and lodging. I think the Coaches will have a place to stay and even get to eat.

Thanks to Jun Sy and family as well as Nonoy Chuatico. Big thanks to canmaker for sourcing this angle too.

I will keep you guys posted and accounting of funds will be sent when the dust clears.

Fourteen (14) of our Lady Eagles had taken off on board Air Philippines Flight 2P 0793. Thanks to MissD and Atty. Quimpo, they have a little pocket money to tide them over until March 6, 2005.

Well wishers will welcome them in the Airport and, like in the past, their games will be eagerly awaited by the fans. They will be shuttled to the Sy residence where they will settle down.

They will then go to immediate practice and try to get used to a cemented basketball floor. That is right. Hindi kahoy ang playing court. Scary thought but trust the Lady Eagles, they will still dive for the ball and burn Portland on the break.

Thanks to Petron Blaze for the bags and Blue Angels for the shirts and banners.

Quote: "Grabe. Mas nakakatakot pa sa Adamson ang University of Mindanao. Parang mga kanto boys at may mga nagpakalbo pa!"

That is why the National Intercollegiate Basketball League Title is so prestigious for Women's Basketball. It is not as well covered and glamorous as UAAP but the best of the best compete. Its schedule is tough and the toughest from all over the Philippines come to play under hardcore conditions.

Please pray for the Lady Eagles. They have two games in the first day. On the second day, their game ends at around 9:00 p.m. They have a game the next day at 8:30 a.m. They will hardly have time to recover. It will be a test of their minds over their tired bodies.

On a side note: Useless pala magdala ng labandero. Sa dikit ng mga laro, wala nang laba laba. blink.gif On second thought, riding in a plane on the way back home with all the unwashed laundry would be a tougher test of the mind. unsure.gif

Watching the other teams, you begin to realize how tough it is to compete in a tournament where you look like the only real ladies team. Whew!

Just In:

Lady Eagles beat UE with a score of 49 to 61.

Kring got a hard elbow to the head and she fell backward. Again. This time on cemented basketball floor.

Good she did not hit hear head. Ice pack needed though. She really should have brought a helmet . . . and knee pad . . . and elbow pad. blink.gif

Ladies will rest a while for their game this afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
joescoundrel

Mother Goose
Hay naku! I just hope that Kring and the rest of the girls are ok! I even made her biro before they left-told her na baka kelangan din niya ng crystals and anting-anting like Zion kasi she's "accident" prone.

Katakot naman those "gurls" from Univ. Of Mindanao. I just hope the don't get intimidated and that they continue playing well and playing smart! smile.gif

Go Lady Eagles!

edited to add:

This just in from Coach John: "Please tell everyone in Manila that it was nothing. She's (Kring) fine, not even one perscent of what she got during the UST game." smile.gif

The strength of PMI had always been their driving and fastbreaking game. They figured the Ateneo Ladies were too lady-like to try a running game on a cemented floor where, early in the morning, Kring Leyco had a nasty fall.

It seemed PMI had the right strategy as we struggled to keep a 27 to 30 lead at the end of the half.

PMI kept on driving hard to the basket and challenging the defense of Cassy. Our Ladies however, would not be pushed around. Cassy met every incursion to register nine (9) ego-busting blocks. Our girls then let it all hang out and took the game to the face of PMI. The Lady Eagles went drive after drive after fastbreak after fastbreak that left the crowd wild chanting "Quimpo!" "Quimpo!!" "Quimpo!!!"

When the Portland dust cleared after the last Quimpo undergoal stab, our ladies stood victorious with a score of 57 to 49.

Kat Quimpo 22, Cassy Tioseco 12, Pipay Villanueva 7, Dcay Caynap 4, Aileen Grajales 4, AJ Barracoso 4, Tin Chua 3, Che Ngo 1

From : The Philippine Star 03/01/2005 (Red Cubs pound Perpetual)

In the women’s division, Ateneo, last year’s runner-up and NCR eliminations top qualifier, thrashed University of the East, 61-49, in the early clash between Metro Manila-based teams.

The Lady Eagles built an 18-9 margin in a show of force the Lady Warriors failed to check.

The Lady Eagles are expected to contend for the national title after defending champion Lyceum backed out, opting to play for the WNCAA tournament instead.

Over at the Foundation University gym, Philippine Maritime Institute downed University of Mindanao-Davao, 66-63, in the other women’s game.

Janice de Guzman led PMI with 21, while Aileen de Jesus and Melveriza Quirante had 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Marlon Bariga exploded for 26 points to steer Salazar Institute of Technology High past Taytung High-Bacolod, 90-85, also at the FU gym. Kerby Cuizon and Jefferson Teves had 14 points apiece for SIT, which posted its second straight victory.

**if the Lady Eaales beat PMI then they have a good chance of beating the "kanto boy looking - bald toughies of University of Mindanao!

Go Lady Eagles! smile.gif

With the win of PMI over University of Mindanao and the win of the Lady Eagles over PMI, it really looks like the Lady Eagles have a good chance of beating the kanto boys.

However, there is a catch. PMI players are not altogether ladies themselves. PMI is a school for merchant marines. The word is: "Super dumi maglaro ang University of Mindanao - - - isang gang kung kumilos." PMI also played very rough against University of Mindanao. Maybe this sapped the strength of PMI.

The question is how rough will our girls play or will they? Manya nyantsing ba ang University of Mindanao or will they be awed and torpe like our Boy ____ is to our Girl _____? What kind of trashtalking will there be? Or will it be sweet talking? How will our girls react? How will our girls counter the University of Mindanao man-to-woman sticky defense?

The Lady Eagles have two games the day before the match with University of Mindanao. The last game of the Lady Eagles for the day would end around 7:30 p.m. Then they battle University of Mindanao the next morning. Will they still have enough energy? With the "no laba laba" format, will they even be able to stand the smell?

There are still so many uncontrollable factors. This is hardcore ball at its best. However, we are confident that it is in these situations that our Ladies thrive best.

One Big Fight!
Cubao Fleahouse
what's the scouting report on the university of san agustin? anyone can give us an overview of what we're up against today?

go lady eagles!
joescoundrel
San Agustin apparently has a twin tower combo of their own, both about 6'0" and widebodied 150-pounders, think Jurj Estanislao doing a Juanna Mann and you get the picture. Ang matindi pa sa mga lintik, puro maliliit ang sinali sa opening day parade, akala tuloy natin mga smallfry. Awa ni bathala may dalawa palang higante, both of whom are at least as accomplished as AJ in the post, so siempre pound it inside ang San Agustin. Looks like our best hope is full court pressure to prevent their guards from setting up the two orcs in the post. Stay tuned...
cackler
Joe:

You are right about the six footers. University of Mindanao has their own. Remember, this is the Olympics of Women's Basketball. The girls come from all over the Philippines. Lalabas at lalabas ang mga six footer.

Correction about the monster game of Cassy yesterday. She had 9 assists and 14 blocks in addition to the points scored. Of course, Kat Quimpo was the darling of the crowd.

On the current game with University of San Agustin, Iloilo, we are murdering them with a 33 to 7 score in the Second Quarter.

Carolyin Tanchi just arrived and is playing.
cackler
A fan was overheard as saying: "Akala ko ang hihinhin. Mga halimaw pala maglaro."

That summed up the 90 to 40 murder by the Lady Eagles of University of San Agustin (Iloilo). This was a game they played to instill fear among the other teams. They did this wihout three point shooting. Our ladies have not shown their perimeter game yet.

Our ladies are getting quite a following with fans vowing to watch all their games. After the slaughter, our girls were hard pressed to leave the venue as fans pressed for autographs and photos. Anything the fans could get hold on, but mostly their own shirts, were instatntly turned to autograph sheets.

Just goes to show you can be pretty in blue.

Aileen Grajales 26, AJ Barracoso 14, Tin Chua 10, Casssy Tioseco 10, Kat Quimpo 6, Pipay Villanueva 6, Dcay Caynap 4, Kring Leyco 4, Carolyn Tanchi 4, Che Ngo 3, Krissy Tiu 2, Kariz Javier 1.

On a side note:

Carolyn Tanchi was only supposed to watch. She could not help herself so she donned the Blue and White and joined the fray. Welcome back Carolyn! rolleyes.gif

Congrats also to Tiu and Javier on their first points, on a national competition at that! rolleyes.gif

mayroon bang nag tape ng games?

spirit65:

Sorry but the only videocam is reserved for scouting.

The tapes are viewed by the coaching staff over and over while the girls are resting or sleeping. Then individual scouting reports are made per player of the next opponent. These notes are then passed on to our defensive players and pointers are discussed, specially strengths and weaknesses. Individual folders are even prepared. During tournaments, 2:00 a.m. is an early nap for the Coaches.

If a demo is required, the opponents play will be shown and broken down.

Ganyan kasipag ang staff natin. The Coaches really take time out to scout, tape, and analyze. That is the only way.

I hope we are doing the same for the Men's Team.

Early tomorrow, we go up against Silliman University itself in their home court. The girls will carry the fight to their guts.
joescoundrel

Thank you for the regular reports, Tito Cackler smile.gif It's great to hear that our Lady Eagles are doing well in the tournament. Hope they go all the way to win the championship!

Welcome back, Carolyn, and good luck to the team!

I find myself becoming more and more of a Lady Eagles fan. I love the team composition ( Cassy and AJ dominating the paint, Pipay launching the 3s, Dcay and Kat controlling the tempo, Aileen on her one-woman fastbreak, Kring and Che supplying the tough D, and Tin providing leadership and all-around court savvy ) and the way they have such sound fundamentals. Do you guys notice that their free throw shooting is the best among our Ateneo teams?

Their movement and plays also show that the coaching staff has done their work allowing them to come out prepared at game time and still allow for adjustments at halftime should some tweaking be needed. Kudos to Coach John and his staff... maybe our other teams can learn from you guys.

I know the Lady Eagles are Ateneo's Team A but I've found a certain hardcore edge to their play... they play with the passion of Team B, they play to a few fans mostly parents and friends, and they do it all for love of school. Imagine us alumni having to come together to fund a trip to Dumaguete... you think that would ever happen to the Men's Team A?

Go Lady Eagles... win or lose, you have done us all proud!

Prior to the game, Coach John emphasized the need to silence the hometown crowd of the Silliman University Stallions. They are no pushovers, being contenders in the WNCAA. As the hosts, they have prepared well for the game and they filled the rafters of their home gym.

Coach John challenged: "Ang unang ma iskoran, siyang magpapakain!" To make sure everybody understood, somebody mumbled the English translation: "The first score will eat."

At the end of the first quarter, our girsl led 33 to 0. The crowd was stunned. The first point was scored by the Stallions on a free throw with 1:30 remaining at the half. The first half ended with a score of 56 to 4. By the end of the third quarter, the Stallions rallied to close the gap at . . . . 74 to 7. The game ended with a score of 91 to 15 with the Lady Eagles winning by a whopping 76 points!

It is said that the female of the species is the more vicious hunter. This is true with the lioness hunting and going for the kill. It is true for most carnivorous species. It is also true for the raptors. But what the Lady Eagles did, right in front of the home team, in the home gym of the homeschool, was to mangle and gore their hapless prey. It was bloody murder.

Yet the Lady Eagles played with such a love for the game and a sweet killer instinct that no one, absolutely no one could help but admire them.

After the game, the fans were getting rowdier. Security was getting to be a problem. Our girls were being mobbed for autographs. Fans were following so tight Coaches had to act part time as body guards.

Lets pray they get enough rest for the game this afternoon.

One Big Fight!

P.S.: Are you sure you still need to know who scored how many? Whatever it is, it was too much.

Joe:

Top four teams enter the semi finals: 1st vs. 2nd and 3rd vs. 4th. Winners will fight for the championship.

Hindi tayo ginu good time. Sila ginu good time natin. Remember, we have not shown our perimeter game. Last night, not a single shot was attempted from the three point arc. We are scaring the sh_tlights out of them. We are telling them we will run them to the ground and we will take it to their gut.

They are trying to psyche us out by showing their kanto boy behavior, complete with skin head players and six footers. They think Manila girls are soft and sosyal. We are responding by showing them our game. Today we showed them we really go for the kill. We showed them what DEFENSE means. We were merciless today and to think, it was our bench that played with Javier making 16 points and Tanchi grabbing 11 rebounds! That is right, the message for today, since all the other teams are watching us, is: "Our second unit is meaner than our first five!"

That way, when the buzzer sounds for the start of the next game, the opposing team already thinks it has lost. Panic sets in as they try to figure out how badly they will be humiliated.

Iba talaga mag isip ang Lady Eagles. Galing ng Coaching Staff!

Dapat mo talaga silang ipag laba! blink.gif

Changes in Schedule:

No more games for today.

Last eliminations game will be tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. against University of Mindanao.

Semi Finals will be on Friday at 5:30 pm.

Finals on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Other Notes:

The fan base is growing. They already know the first names of the girls. Yesterday, the crowd was just shouting the numbers. Today they were shouting "Pipay" "Dicay" and even "Chrissy". The autograph line was rather long and rowdy. Some were trying to hold our girls so coaching staff had a hard time.

In between breaks, the girls are either resting or glued to their laptops finishing school work. Every now and then, some girls have to find internet cafes to receive or send over some school materials.

Tomorrow promises to be a bruising game against the skinheads and kanto boys.
