I was only able to catch the last 4 minutes of game 3, plus all 5 minutes of the OT (ang layo pala kasi ng makati coliseum, naligaw pa ako). It was enough to see that Villanueva is a big time player. Some of the stars in the men's team should take shooting lessons from her. Her free throw release was perfect. Does she shoot that well every game? If she had gotten to the free throw line a couple of times more during the OT, it would have been a different story. I hope she plays out her last year of eligibility. I agree that the women's team is poised to win it all next season.

Congrats to the Lady Eagles for a great 2004 UAAP season.
I admit I wasn't much of a Lady Eagles fan barely knowing the players aside from Cassie and AJ. After watching them play this grueling 3-game series against a much stronger Adamson team, I take my hat off to these ladies who proudly wore Mary's colors and fought till the end.
To Dcay, Pipay, and Tin: thank you for the 4 years and I hope you decide to play out your eligibility next year. I felt your disappointment after the game after having fought so hard and still coming up short... for some reason, I felt even sadder than when our Team A lost to Lasalle. Not to worry, better things are still to come for our Lady Eagles... I just wish you guys are still around to be part of it.
Dcay, I was seated behind your friends and boy, were they rabid Dcay fans! They unfurled two banners just for you and supported you all throughout the game. You sure you want to leave the Ateneo?
To the rest of the Lady Eagles... I am so proud of how you carried yourselves both in victory and defeat. Congratulations to all you for a season all Ateneans are immensely proud of.

I guess the poster does not want to give credit to the MVP of the womens game. Arayi was criticized for her lackluster performance in game 1 and 2 given but came back big time in the rubber match. Congraulations to the Lady Eagles for a great game and for a great 2004 season. You have made us all very proud.
It was my first time to watch a game by the Lady Eagles this season and I almost had a heart attack. Exactly the way I like my basketball games served. It was purist basketball at its best. The girls executed well, ran their plays to perfection, defended like pit bulls and played with all their hearts. My hats off to that spunky girl Pipay Villanueva. She was like an assassin out there. It was like watching Magnum three years ago, only with a better handle. I hope the seniors stay another year. The crown is yours for the taking next year.
I am now a big fan of the Lady Eagles.
I am such a big fan that I am already pledging my pre-school daughter to the 2017 line-up of the Lady Eagles. She's barely 4 years old and is already the biggest and tallest kid in her Assumption batch. She's very athletic and is already very fond of hoops. She actually begged me to buy her an adjustable basketball goal last Christmas and she already has a mean stroke from the perimeter. Her pedia is estimating that she'll probably shoot up to AT LEAST 6'2" by the time she's 16. Well she does have the genes: I'm over 6'2" while my wife is 5'7" and is actually the smallest in her family. A GOOD OMEN: I took her to watch me play in an ABL game at the Loyola Center. As soon as she saw the court, she started screaming, "BASKETBALL!" and immediately ran inside the court to shoot baskets. She's already bugging me to get her a replica jersey.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think all of our players can come back next year. However, I think only Tin Chua has committed to come back, not too certain about the plans of Pipay and DCay. In any event, if we come back with the same team, we won't actually need to add any significant recruit right away, at least not for Season 68. We've got more than enough weapons in store. Concerns about another legit pointguard are not really that heavy, considering we have more than enough players capable of playing point like Aileen Grajales and Cheryll Ngo, aside from Katrina Quimpo and DCay (if she comes back next year.)
I think we'll see more minutes from other players as well, like Anna Rapes and Kathy Tan. Those girls have great games, but lack exposure. Hopefully we can extend the bench a bit more next year. I am also hoping Macky Herrera can come back from her MCL injury and play 100%, so our three-headed monster will always have at least two big women at any time. See you all at the games over the summer and for Season 68!

Four years removed from HS and here they are in Makati Coliseum still cheering their friend on... you said it... galing.
After the game, I leaned over and told them to go over and talk to Dcay and they said they would after the game as they wanted Dcay to be more composed and be allowed to spend time with her fellow Lady Eagles.

I hope Dcay and Pipay will, too! They can start taking their graduate studies naman. Their precious championship experience (and that of the other players as well) will definitely be a big asset for the Lady Eagles' season next year.
I overheard though from a huddle of some of the players' parents that Aileen Grajales is eligible to play for only a year (as she's already graduated from Lyceum and is only taking her masters in Ateneo), so she won't be back next year. Sayang naman if this is indeed the case. She definitely has become a great alternate point guard for the team. And her one-woman fastbreak is awesome! Too bad she didn't have the opportunity to execute this in game 3.

Aileen Grajales, like Jerwin Gaco, has two years of UAAP eligibility as a grad student with no previous UAAP experience. She should indeed be back next year. Without giving anything away, let me say that we will have a superb recruiting class who will make an impact over the next five years at least, starting with next Season. The point guard position is the concern. Dcay is a converted point guard. Aileen Grajales is more of a "2". While Kat is fantastic, she simply cannot do it all for 40 minutes.
We should have our reliever point guard the year after next. We would have our Ladies LA version sans the nose. She will laso have less hair on her legs.

Cackler,
It is against Adamson and UP that I wished Suki was playing with the lady eagles. Both teams have dynamic guards and I expected both teams to attack Quimpo. If she does not commit a lot of fouls, she will end up playing longer minutes. The longer she plays the more susceptible to turnovers. DCay and Grajales were both 2 who are forced to play 1 by necessity. I hope the coaching staff finds another point to give Kat some blow during games. Two years is to long although Adamson will feel the sting of loosing 2 of their veteran leaders. But UP and DLSU have surplus pg to use on Kat in future games.

For me, the best UAAP women's baller right now is Cabral of UE. Too bad her team is on the losing end so she does not get stat support. Otherwise, she would be hands down ROY and MVP. Sayang lang at sobrang liit.

For the record, only Larry Fonacier beat Pipay in a three point shootout. Partida pa 'yan kasi puyat noon si Pipay.
I would also love to see Martin or Doug or even Ford go toe to toe against AJ Baracosso in the paint. Ang lupit ng pivot at drop step. Cassy could teach our tall boys how to get over the back rebounds. Tin Chua could teach JC how to cross over effortlessly when going for the drive and Sheryl Ngo could teach a thing or two about defending the perimeter. Kat can teach our guards a thing or two on how not to get the ball swiped from your back.
Heck, the Ladies Team can teach the Men's Team a thing or three on how to cover the drop pass and the baseline. And they can all teach Tiu how to finish the fastbreak!
When they are done teaching the boys some basketball skills, they can then start tutoring some of our players.

not that i don't want to give arayi credit. she, and the other adamson players who came big at the end, truly deserve credit for winning that game.
given the fact that adamson already has the talent and skill to win it all, i don't think adamson needed any more help from us. unfortunately, somebody on the team made crucial turnovers near the end of the third, and at the end of the game that, i think, spelled the difference in that contest.

And besides, it's much more efficient to watch a women's basketball game than a men's game. I spend 10 hours for one men's game broken down as follows:
queueing for tickets - 3 hours
watching the game at the venue - 4 hours (had to be there early!)
watching the tape (I tape the games!) at home after the game - 3 hours
Total = 10 hours
For a women's game, no queueing for tickets, no tapes to watch as it is not televised, and I don't have to arrive early at the venue. So in watching the game, I just spend 2 hours at the venue.
So that's why watching women's games is more efficient...
