he can provide great insights about the team and he is articulate enough. But as mowcee said, he may have other palns... he is still taking up his MA and maybe he's helping the coaching staff... Also he's busy recovering and on his therapy so he might not have time to be a host ...

mr. 100% reiterated that his role in the team was simply that of a teacher and not a coach. he also said that he was not purely there as a "big man" coach. he also teaches our guards the finer aspects of the game. he also made it clear that the last thing he wanted to do was coach college basketball, so that kinda clarifies the issue of him being a backseat driver like one of the coach-consultant tandems out there.
black magic pointed out that the loss of the team's best player forced the emergence of a lot of role players. he also expects more from japeth in the days ahead. (more? i could only imagine the potential he sees in this guy)
coach norman also preferred working with college players versus pros for the main reason that the former were simply easier to coach/train because they had more gusto, unlike pros who are harder to motivate because they have already reached the plateu.
some quotable quotes from the show...
"the law of averages is only for average teams, and we are not an average team."
(chot reyes trashing the the idea that the law of averages may catch up pretty soon)
"you have to be good to be lucky."
(coach norman's reply on the luck versus skill issue)
"we draw strength from our family. you are our family. please watch our games."
(reyes & medina on how the ateneo community can help the blue eaglets make it through these hard times)
"may asawa na ako!"
(coach norman's reply to gabe mercado's question: as a consultant, do the players consult you for love-related issues?)

Here are more things Norman said:
- Most of the work he does with the team happens before games. He joins the team in the dugout at halftime, but otherwise it is coach Sandy's call what happens during games.
- The team does not have any dominant big men, but what they do have are big men who know their roles and perform them admirably. He said JC and Bugs are the main big men, but he made special mention of Marty and Doug as well.
- The coaching staff was expecting a lot of contribution from Japeth before the season began, but his operation pushed back the timetable. Hopefully towards the end of this round Japeth can do more.
- On the loss to UE, he said the team was flat in that game. He gives credit to the UE defense, but he maintains that the Eagles lacked energy in that game.
- On the upcoming game against DLSU, he said that they play a lot like UE, so Ateneo has to be prepared for the full and half court press, and that the Eagles should play tough defense.
- Norman also credited team management for making his role in the team clear. The lines of delineation between him and Sandy were explained up front. He adds that it is his goal to help Ateneo win the championship this year.
One of the most hilarious bits was Mel Garrido's answer to the question of the night. When asked what the Ateneo team should do on Sunday to beat DLSU, Mel said "show up."

No mention about Arao from the big man coach? I'm interested to know how Arao is doing since his name doesn't come out that often in the online press. Has he performed according to expectations and what are his prospects looking forward? Will this guy be able to dominate the center slot or will he become a Pinoy version of Eric Montross?
