During the half time break and when Ateneo was cheering, the camera showed a line of Ateneo lifters. Two of them were not even opening their mouths. They were not helping cheer at all. Do they deserve to be in the Babble? The other lifters were helping in the cheers.

sir cackler, please forgive them, kasi medyo mahirap ung mga lifts nung iba e, and most of them are newbies, only 3 or 4 of them were veterans from last year...

Question is: Do they know the cheers at all?
admu_addict
of course they know, one won't make it to team a if he/she doesnt know the cheers. the lifters even led the cheering in some galleries of Upper B. smile.gif

admu-addict,

May we suggest the following:

1. Those new girls and guys learn the cheers ASAP.

2. If there are try outs to be a lifter, make learning the Ateneo cheers and battle songs a requirement to entry.

I think these are very reasonable to ask. Every Atenean worth his or her salt should know the cheers.

Anyway, kudos to BBB for a job well done during our match against DLRT.

July 11, 2004, Araneta Coliseum:

Today was a perfect example of the sheer force of the Ateneo crowd

You guys lifted the team to victory, and for this the BBB is entirely grateful

Congrats to the Blue Eagles. Congrats to The Crowd.

Let's continue to rock the stands in every game!

One Big Fight.

Good to hear that.

As long as you're taking suggestions and comments, I'd just like to point out that the tempo of some of our cheers (particularly, "Blue Eagle Spelling" and "Fabilioh") is a little off. Everytime the crowd yells these cheers, they tend to rush through them. The actual tempo is actually a little slower. This was pointed out to us in our time by older alumni who said that "you don't rush the King. Ateneo cheers are regal and shouldn't be cheered like you're trying to get them out of the way."

Did we have a band for the game? There's nothing like hearing "Blue Eagle, the King" in a packed stadium.

ATENEO!
ONE BIG FIGHT!

great job BBB....ang ganda ng uniforms niyo! biggrin.gif

comment lang....maybe the cheerleaders could practice more on their lifts with the lifters kesi mejo dami nahuhulog yesterday. was a bit scared rin when i saw a lady doing a basket throw tapos muntikan na siyang di masalo ng mga lifters niya, she lamost fell. para lang walang accidents.

but i do agree that our cheerdancers have been improving year in and year out1 kudos to you gals smile.gif

and wala akong masabi sa BBB..kungdi you guys really rock! keep it up biggrin.gif

Walang problema sa maka kapwa Atenista ang magpatawaran at magkaintindihan. rolleyes.gif

Its just that the particular lifters had this smug look in their face as if saying: "Bakit pa ako magpapakahirap magcheer eh ang trabaho ko naman dito ay taga taas ng pwet!"

Sorry. I could not find another phrase to describe the work they do. But I could imagine that lifting as@#$s would be a heavy burden.

Now. lets prepare for the next game. ONE BIG FIGHT!

I noticed that the BBB tried to start a new cheer that went something like "Go Ateneo, One Big Fight". I don't think that will catch on... too wordy and has less impact. Nothing like a "Go Ateneo" to stir up a crowd to its feet, and nothing like an "Ateneo 2x Go and Fight" during a big rally. What would be nice if we can come up with another chant just like the latter which is now about 30 years old.
Blue Fuel
We're just adding to the repertoire wink.gif

"Go Ateneo" wasn't very popular when it was introduced years back.It took all of 3 years to make a solid impact as a staple cheer for the Babble.

The new cheer is fairly simple..."Go Ateneo One Big Fight".

It would have more impact if we ALL begin supporting it wink.gif

I like the drumbeats accompanying the New Go ateneo-One big fight cheer. Sanayan lang yan. But can I just make a suggestion...Why not change the One Big Fight phrase at the end into something else. There can only be One Big fight chant/cheer and putting the phrase into the new cheer is kinda misplaced.
ethanboy
the one thing that I really don't like with what the bbb did during the halftime show was using dance music, i can live with the lifting and throwing and all that stuff, but i just hope that we can just stick to the drums. Besides, for those who were there live at the coliseum, i think that we will all agree that everyone on the blue side just froze and watched while the cheerleaders did their thing, we all just had to wait for the 8 beat again before we all got revved up. Call me old fashioned on this one, but hey, its just my opinon, hope you'll take it in stride
bugoy_king
Nah, ok nga yung dance eh. Shows how much the BBB is improving on the cheerdancing routines.

As for the blue side just standing around, I believe it was due to being stunned at La Salle's end-of-the-half burst capped by a JR Aquino buzzer-beating layup that gave them a 45-32 lead. It wasn't the BBB's fault, parang walang gana lang yung tao dahil sa score at yung pagsara ng La Salle ng 1st half.
ethanboy
i agree that there's no problem with the dance and the crowd may have been disheartened a little bit, my problem was with the music, the coliseum sound system playing music is like listening to huge tweeters (maybe it sounds different when you're located on the floor but when you're in upper a or b, well....), wala ganong bass kaya parang nakaka-irita, i think if they did the same routine but with the band accompanying them the show would have had a greater impact
bugoy_king
Ah ok, misunderstood you. Peace.

Araneta's sound system isn't pretty good. The speakers are really small for a coliseum of that size. Sayang.
hunigurl
the BBB did one heck of a job yesterday! even if i only saw/heard them on TV

wawa naman dlsu, the only time they were heard was when we were resting...hehehe!

is it true that the BBB captain actually collapsed during the game coz of hyperventilation? wow, now that's what i call intense...heard the band members actually helped him up and he still went on to cheer with greater intensity

the ateneo gallery was just exploding on TV! you guys were rhe best!

GO BBB!!!!! Keep up the good work
ethanboy
Just also wish to convey to the bbb that i liked that idea where they use the bass drums with a little snare during the tip off, sa tingin ko comparable dun sa sound pag malapit na si jaws in terms of
"dating".. i thought it was cool
hunigurl
hehehe tongue.gif i saw Paolo in school this morning...haaay...i hope i can watch him cheer again this saturday. one big fight!

My thoughts exactly. If there's a new cheer, the words should ideally be different. Why not use "Fight, fight blue and white!" or "Fly High Ateneo!" or words to that effect that may fit the beat?
Blue Fuel
We actually have SEVERAL cheers that we don't perform during the games.Pag nilabas ba namin, would you promise to cheer them? rolleyes.gif

Hehehe...really we do have other cheers stashed as of the moment. We even have this "Fly Blue Eagle...Fly-High Blue Eagle"

The One Big Fight will even be bigger!

Go Ateneo!
bluestorck
as long as the madaling sundin...and the beat isnice im sure the crowd would have no problem in participating in the new cheers.....dapat lang i-guide ng BBB. biggrin.gif
bluewing
i have a suggestion.

instead of coming up with new cheers, why not dig up the really old cheers stashed waya in the archives? and i mean old. yung panahon pa nina joescoundrel biggrin.gif

You need a horn section for this cheer. Look for some of the guys in the old band from the late eighties like the professional photographer, Jo Avila. I miss this one. I heard it referred to as the "Ateneo Go-Go." It's all horns and drums with three One Big Fights in the middle.
true.blue
That cheer needs a brass band to lead into the 3 One Big Fight yells. We have to rebuild our band first. Doing so will also revive the Hail Ateneo Hail and Blue Eagle the King classic songs.

kuwatromanson!
to those who watched the ADMU-UST game live, who had the louder drums, ADMU or UST?

assessment of the drumming, please?
Maverick
Does UST still insist on bringing a drum for each letter of ROYAL AND PONTIFICAL UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS? Just asking out of curiosity.
bluestorck
watched the game on tv...i think ust had louder drums,i could hear the crowd of ateneo sometimes pag humahabol na ang uste.

i liked the formation of the BBB yesterday! keep it up!

obf!
true.blue
I sat behind the goal and so was equidistant from two sets of drums. Pareho lang. Sometimes Ateneo would even be slightly louder. Good job guys.

Maverick, due to the smaller venue, UST had 7 drums (VIVA*ST) while Ateneo had 6 (*AMDG*).

More of us now supported the new cheer Go Ateneo One Big Fight. Sounds okay naman.

I also noticed that we brought our horns last night and tried the Ateneo Go Go tune that was referred to earlier in this thread. Parang mali yata yung piyesa nila. I wish it broke into the traditional One Big Fight yells. Maybe you could ask the brass group to check out the Ateneo CD of traditional cheers and verify if they got the right melody line and sequence.
hunigurl
congrats to Paolo and the rest of babble!!!! i heard you guys did great in the stands at cuneta yesterday!!!!

keep it up!!!!

tall_tales
There's two guys on the Babble who I think are the perfect cheerleaders. One is this chinito guy with floppy hair, and the other guy has spiky hair (I think he's a sophomore). They're both so into the whole cheering thing. When they're leading the cheers, talagang mapapa-cheer ka dahil sa kanila. Ang infectious ng energy nila, sobra. They're so passionate about supporting the team. I wish lahat ng members ng Babble tulad nila. smile.gif

Oh, and good luck sa cheering competition. wink.gif

Cackler,

I saw the comment of Miss D in the other thread and I was tempted to hazard a guess on who made the sign. Heh heh heh ... . Sabi ko na nga ba, si JoeS ang may gawa. tongue.gif He did mention in another thread that he was preparing a sign. Pakilala mo kaya si Joe kay big Jim!

Sabi ni Miss D, inspirado ang laro ni Cassy baka dahil sa sign. You should give your extra ticket to Joe every time the lady eagles have a game so he brings the sign to the game. Humingi ka na lang kay misis ng extra tickets. Congrats on her appointment to the lady eagles.

Ayan, dalawa na ang stalkers among the alumni, si Carrot at si Joe. Parehong mahilig sa matatangkad. laugh.gif Carrot needs to make her own sign for master Marty para naman ganahan ang laro niya. Though a starter, he has hardly scored any points.

good luck on thursday's game BBB!!!!! im sure you guys can easily overpower the UE pep! hahaha!!!

i hope i can go to araneta tom para i can see Paolo lead the cheers again!!!! is he gonna perform sa halftime ba? coz he wasn't on the court during the UST game eh

oh well, you guys rock!!!! i'll be cheering my lungs out even if i watch on TV lang!

keep up the goodwork we would need that for this sundays game against up!

good job BBB. thursday games are usually dry days with lean and unenthusiastic crowds. but you guys made the best of what you had to work with.

i particularly liked this tune, i don't know the title, but it's played in NBA arenas all over, the one where the crowd gets to shout "HEY!" intermittently. as far as i know we're the first band to try playing this tune and with a bigger crowd i foresee this will be powerful. maybe we can get more horns to play for louder volume?

one big fight!

the BBB played this tune yesterday? hmm i guess medyo mahina nga. i was seated in the UE side and i had no idea they played it. rolleyes.gif

it was nice to view the BBB and individual cheerleaders (the ones who man the aisles) from the other side of the court. whenever the lively cheers like "Go Ateneo" and "Get that ball" were being shouted, parang mga mexican jumping beans yung mga naka blue-and-white getup. it was really an awesome sight to see - - very infectious. smile.gif
