Brush up on your chemistry (periodic table of elements - memorize the most important elements and be aware of the sequencing and the signifiance of the rows and columns) and general science. Practice on your reading comprehension. Memorize formulas in math and physics esp volume of triangles, cubes, probability, permutation, arithmetic sequence, velocity, acceleration, etc. If you don't know the answer to an item, do not leave it blank. Unlike the UPCAT, it's best to guess in the ACET when you don't know the answer.
Practice on your reading comprehension too. There are like 7-10 short stories in the ACET.
There are two 25-item portions in the exam (math and english) that have to be answered in one minute. Answer the easy problems first, so you wouldn't spend too much time on the hard problems. CUz if you do, you'd end up answering only a few hard problems, instead of answering many easy ones.
And guys, it really helps if you start practicing on abstract reasoning now, or at least two weeks before the exam. It makes up for almost 90% of the thinking ability portion. If you're applying for ME, PSCE, and other tough courses, you'd have to have a high thinking ability score. There are some techniques in abstract reasoning that you can easily learn. YOu can look it up in the net.
Heheh sorry.. this isn't about the topic anymore (application form). But I hope this helps you on your ACET. good luck!

"How will an Ateneo education help me become a catalyst for [possitve change ata] in Philippine Society."
So, has it changed?

hello, seniors. don't worry too much about the essay. just follow everything you know about writing a 3-part theme as your 3rd year english teacher taught you.
these are the important components of getting accepted into the ateneo:
1. acet score
2. present grades
3. 3rd year grades
since you can't do anything about your 3rd year grades anymore, prepare for #s 1 and 2.
best way to prepare for both numbers? study well now while it's still early in the school year. by studying now, you get to sharpen your brains and get a lot of practice in math. the english part will be tough (esp. the vocabulary and reading comprehension) so the best preparation for that is to do a lot of reading (school books or books of your interest). by studying now, you prepare for the acet. you hit 2 birds with one stone.
why you will not get into the ateneo college:
1. low 3rd year grades
2. low acet
3. low present grades
4. disciplinary records (serious cases or frequent offenses)
if your 3rd year grades are low, don't worry, your present grades and acet scores will bail you out. wag matakot kung hindi kayo nag-aral nung 3rd year although makakatulong sana yun.
the key is now.
believe me, i am a reliable source

low meaning "summer" low and maybe having a 2 average. for 4th year grades, if you have:
1. one failing grade F1 or lower
2. 2 failing grades
(of course these aren't the official guidelines but generally, if you get 1 or 2, that would count as low.
getting into UP and ADMU are 2 different things. in UP, the test is easier (because it is a state university and it has to address the whole nation) but because it is a state university, that means you are competing for slots against practically all the seniors of the country. the ACET is definitely the harder exam compared to the UPCAT but competition less, meaning, less number of competitors. problem is, maybe higher quality of competitors (ex- you'll be up against the best of good schools like: st. scho manila, woodrose, xavier, ica, poveda, etc.). your ateneo background is not a technical advantage, it might only come in handy when you get waitlisted or rejected but that really isn't much.
i'd be glad to answer more questions

if you get either wait-listed or rejected, the admissions committe will look at your 3rd year grades and pray to God you had good 3rd year grades. your involvement in extra-curricular activities might help but not so much.
in any case, make sure you appeal and appeal and appeal and appeal.... if you really want to get in the ateneo and you're either wait-listed or rejected, prepare to "pester" the ateneo.
reasons why you are waitlisted:
1. low but passing ACET score and low 3rd year grades = in this case, your 4th year grades will be the critical factor
2. failed acet score but good or high 3rd year grades. again your 4th year grades become important
of course, it doesn't help if you could have some prominent teacher, alumnus/alumna, etc. vouch for you in writing (although this is not a guarantee). kung baga, no harm in doing all these things.
basta ganito, do well in the acet and your problems lessen.
good luck! anyway, icans have traditionally gotten a good passing rate into the college.

I'm really starting to feel stressed out because I want to pass the ACET and get into Ateneo. I have tons of extra-curricular activities, and I joined a lot of academic contests, but I still feel that I wouldn't get in. Hirap daw ng Math, 'cause there are a lot of questions about the Conic Sections, or Math 4. Sobrang pressure daw sa time.
What if I passed everything but did horribly in the Math part? What are my chances of actually getting accepted?
Is it true that the extra-curricular activities and academic achievements are important? How will it affect their decision of accepting the applicant?
Sorry if maraming tanong, I just want to pass talaga...

depends how low your acet is. you'd probably be waitlisted and once you get waitlisted, then your extra-curricular activities might be a factor but it will be your perseverance (read: appeal, appeal, connections, etc.) that will save the day.
now re: math, the key topics would be algebra, trigo and some geom. ang katakutan ninyo ang english, walang stir.
don't take the english part for granted because that will make or break you.
told you the upcat is easy. it's the ranking that will make it hard to enter.
good luck to everyone!

It's mostly in trig. You know the power to which a base, usually 10, must be raised to produce a given number. If nx = a, the logarithm of a, with n as the base, is x; symbolically, logn a = x. For example, 103 = 1,000; therefore, log10 1,000 = 3. The kinds most often used are the common logarithm and the natural logarithm.

shotgun tip # 2:
when you shotgun for an answer, choose ONLY 1 letter and go all the way for it. this way, you would have a higher chance of getting the right answer, instead of missing the right ones by alternating or constantly changing letters..

isa pa:
this is pretty much given, but if you feel you've lost all hopes, never give up! still finish the test! not finishing it means you're a sore loser, so your appeals
in case you got wait-listed will most likely be immediately trashed.
why? ano na lang isasagot mo if they ask you the simple question, "bakit, tinapos mo ba yung test?"
boom pare.
yun lang! syempre, don't forget to pray. and don't get surprised of people crying over the test.. nangyayari daw yun.

friendly reminders:
the submission of acet forms has been extended til august 22. only a few were informed about the said extension, so most of the applicants would be arriving on thursday. we're expecting 3,000 applicants from wed-fri. do come on wednesday/friday cuz people traffic would probably be heaviest on thursday.
you are allowed to submit scanned photos on your exam permit and admission form as long as it is clear and scanned on board paper (thick paper) or photo paper. ordinary bond paper is not allowed.
erasures in the recommendation forms/secondary school record and principal's recommendation form must be countersigned. there shouldn't be any blanks in your secondary school record.
photocopies of exam permit are not allowed.
last but certainly not the least.. don't forget to rank your courses. if you leave it blank or put check marks instead, ateneo will assign you a course you might not end up liking

re: the shotgun method, i don't think going for one letter all the way (when you're guessing or out of time) or alternating matters since your probabilities don't change (laging 25% chance if you have 4 choices for each number di ba?). what matters is you answer everything since it isn't right minus (a percentage) wrong like in UP.
