Nice game and anime.. playing the game
right now and downloading the anime
series (very exhausting).
If you finish .hack Sign, you could
continue your saved game at the
sequel... levels, items etc..

great game.. interesting concept as well..
although, i would have liked it better if they made the whole "game within a game" thing more flexible, like being able to at least choose your class or something..

Have they translated that into English na ba?

.hack is actually a four part game. The one out in English is .hack/infection.
I played the game and got addicted with it. It's only a short game. However, if you really want to experience everything, you got to roam around and find those stuff like grunty food and the best weapons/armor.
I've finished the game already. The final boss is really hard if you're only level 30 - although it's beatable.
When .hack/mutation (out on May) comes, you can import your data and continue your game with your current status. You can aim for level 99 or so in part 1. However, it will be hard and long. The game distributes experience points by checking your character's level and comparing it to the stage's level. If you have a lower level than the stage, higher EXP points will be given to you every time you beat a monster. Vice-versa when higher. So if you happen to be a level 30 character in a level 18 stage, you'll only get 1 EXP per monster.
It's a nice game. Better check it out. If you got an original copy, you even get a bonus DVD of the anime series.

I know you can do it.
One technique is to trade and trade and trade. Sometimes, you'll get cool, higher level stuff like Masterblades (lv 13), Hell's Gate (lv 14), Dante's Blades for Kite (lv 14), Scarab Earrings (lv 26), Thunder Torque (lv 31) Starstorm Wand (lv 13) for Mistral, Flame Sword (lv 18), Spirit Armor (lv 28) for Blackrose, Fiend Spear (lv 14) for Gardenia. They are not the best of all but it has a high enough level to get through the game.
And also, data drain. Not too often though.

You got Hell's Gate by trading! Really?
Divi-Dead
Mar 15 2003, 07:02 PM
Yes, I was surprised myself. I got Masterblades from trading. Afterwards I went on a quest. When I came back, I think on the Theta server, there was a guy who was offering Hell's Gate. I even got that before Dante's Blades. Soon, many were offering Dante's Blades. Weird.

I got mine through trading. I'm not sure who I got it from though. I think it's either Gyokuro or M-78. Just trade with them until some time, they will offer this for trade.

ARGH!!! NOW I MUST GET PS2!!!!
TELL ME please...
which PS2 specifications should I ask for to play both American and Japanese originals with auto-loading?
I've been saving up, so I wanna get .hack and FFX International as originals...
ALso, where can I get good prices for the PS2, and where can I buy an original copy of .hack?
SATURDAY IS PS2 DAY!!!!

which PS2 specifications should I ask for to play both American and Japanese originals with auto-loading?UNIT: get the latest version of ps2.. US and Japan have both 7 versions of ps2 [so far]. i've heard that early versions of the ps2 easily breaks down and will eventually have a hard time reading discs.. check the model, it's the one with "SCPH-...". mine's SCPH-390001 US unit.. it's version 7..
MODS: most modifications nowadays are auto-loading/direct boot.. try to inquire about the modification with "multi-disk" capability or can play DVD9 discs.. some games that will come out in the future will be in DVD9 format like Xenosaga.
US vs JAPAN: depends on you.. if you intend to play region 1 [US] dvd's, then get the US unit..mod's doesn't affect the regional settings of the ps2, unless you buy another add-on [dvd region x]
I've been saving up, so I wanna get .hack and FFX International as originals...
ALso, where can I get good prices for the PS2, and where can I buy an original copy of .hack?UNIT: i've heared greenhills is a good place to bargain with prices.. i'm not sure whether the unit is already converted when you buy it there or in any other game shops..
FFX: you can easily find that at any department store or game shops..
.HACK: so far, i haven't seen any store that sells an original copy of that. i think it's because it has a dvd video with it and i think exporting dvd's to another region are not allowed.. well, try greenhills, there's a lot of possibilities there.. ^^
well, if you're not that in a hurry to get a ps2 [which i doubt you are], wait for a few years more.. say, 2-3 years.. they're targeting the release of ps3 sometime in 2005/6..

How much extra is the add-on that allows both american and jap orignals to be played...
I want to have my American .hack and FFX International at the same time...
And what drawbacks must I face?

How much extra is the add-on that allows both american and jap orignals to be played...
-->what originals? GAMES: modifications on ps2's would generally play anything, so you need not to worry the where the games came from. well, unless you don't want your unit to be modified, i think unmodified units would only play games from the same region. but there still is a consideration with regards to the kind of mod's.. modifications costs range from i think P3000-5000, depending on the ps2 model and the kind of modification.
DVD: the product i've only checked is DVD Region X, which costs about P2500.. it has this memory card and boot disc thingy.. well, i never got one since i had no problems with the region coz i only watch region all or region 1 dvd's with my US unit.. local dvd's here are region 3, but i had never tried to play it though..
And what drawbacks must I face?
-->this one's with my unit and kind of modification [i don't know if it's applicable to all].. before i got my unit modified, all operations were auto-loading.. just pop-in the disc and wait.. now..
GAMES: after placing the game disc in, i need to reset it again in order for the game to load. that goes as well as for original games and the "locally-bought" games.. ^^
DVD: after placing the disc in, i turn off the unit until it is on stand-by mode. with the dvd movie disc still inside, i hold the reset button to turn it on again and release the button only when i see the sony thingy on the tv.
DVDRgnX: i think you need to attach the special memory card and boot disc thingy everytime you want to watch a movie..
it's quite annoying actually at first but i've gotten the gotten the hang of it.. ^^
reminder: PS2 units from US are often MADE IN CHINA while JAPAN units are MADE IN JAPAN.. some of my friends have Japan units, and i don't remember any complaints from them, and mine's a US unit, but i don't remember anything bad happening to it [and am hoping that nothing bad will happen to it!] some things you need to consider with the unit is 1)what dvd video region will you be playing and 2)the model/version.

Oh... I meant whatever modifications need to be made to play Original Games from both America and Japan.
REASON: FFX International is a Jap original (if this is wrong, tell me!!!!).
.hack and most everything else that I want to play is American original.
What do you think I should do? Buy one that plays american originals only, get the American FFX (without the additional stuff from International) and watch DVDs on my regular DVD player, or should I just pay more para my PS2 is more versatile?

New modifications nowadays allow you to boot any kind of DVD (including DVD9) just like the original. No more standby mode or other methods. Just put the game inside and turn it on.
I got my mod. for only P2300.

ows? woooow... bago yun a.. last year pa kasi ako nagpamodify, wala pa sa vocabulary ko yung dvd9.. and back then, mura na yung P5000 na modify for direct boot.. hmmm.. and 2500 for new mods.. d*mn.. if you're comfortable with non-sony people opening up your ps2, i say go for it..
hmmm.. magpa-remodify kaya ako ulit..
on unmodified ps2's, they would only play local games according to my classmate.. [he has a jap unit.. he couldn't hold on much longer so he got his unit modified later on.. it's so expensive buying orig games all of the time] US consoles use US games only, and Japanese consoles use Japan games only.. that includes the dvd.. so, if you want more freedom of choice, go get your unit modified.. but some people suggest that it would be better if you have a separate dvd player other than the ps2. they say the dvd overworks the ps2. i don't know, but i have no choice.. we don't have a separate dvd player.. ^^;
if you want to stick to originals, go for US consoles so you will be able to understand your games, unless you are able to understand japanese or really like the games there..

Hehe... off topic again.
I think Onimusha is a solid game... good fighting system (when I played it outside) and nice historical fiction bit...
Just remember: Onimusha 3 is coming out, and features motion capture and facial textures of Takeshi Kaneshiro (Too Tired to Die) and Jean Remo (The french guy in godzilla).
From what I hear, this one kinda mixes time-space travel as well... Jean's character is in France, in the year 2004.
Anyway... when I play .hack, what should I expect? Any nice secrets or tips for newbies?

lev. 14 parin..
so ano yon? hanggang lev.
ayon salamat.

.hack / Infection... just a sec, checking my inventory for Twin Blades
Yup. In .hack/Infection, the highest twin blades you can get by throwing it in a spring is level 14.
There are two level 14 twin blades which you can get either by data draining, trading or throwing it in a Grandpa lv. 2 spring.
[*]Dante's Blades
[*]Hell's Gate (my current weapon - I'm sticking to it 'til I get a new one from Part 2 - much better than Dante's)
But...
There are two other RARE LV 14. twin blade weapons.
Hyakkidouran (data drain the Parasite Dragon - Special Final Boss)
Bom-Ba-Ye (data drain a Mu Guardian)
So you have four Lv 14. Twin Blades you can choose from. I prefer Hell's Gate over the four.
And no, just by pressing X will only use one blade. The other blade is used for Twin Blade skills such as Blazing Wheel and Thunder Dragon. What do you mean slow?
Secret Tips? Like I said before, trade frequently, drain occasionally. You'll never have problems with currency by doing these two. And, explore. You can finish this game quickly, less than half a week. However, the real fun in the game is exploring, trying out different combinations for the gate, raising the grunties and unlocking everything in the Ryu books.
Expect a real-time fighting system. I can describe it as a downgraded Kingdom Hearts battle system without the annoying camera angles.
It simulates a online RPG or MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) for all the techies out there so don't expect everyone to be there when you call them. Like one of the characters say (I think it was Orca or Blackrose), they all have lives outside of the game too (the greatest lesson in the RPG).
The playable characters here level up too even when not in your party. You just need to supply them with the armor and weapons as they don't have any idea where to get them. Like my good friend Mistral says when I give her potions, antidotes or restoratives, "Hmmm... I'm not sure what this is but I'll take it."
I played Xenosaga... I don't like it as much as .hack. Actually, it bored me to death. Sorry to Xenosaga-likers out there.

data drain is a special ability.. it's like stealing stuff (data) from something (eg. an enemy..)
well of course, it doesn't go well all the time.. it has some abnormal effects on your char if used to often.. (like casting protective or attack spells on your party, even having an instant death due to massive damage..)

I played an MMORPG before and my character only had 1 ordinary attack animation. Maybe, that explains why Kite has only one too.
As for data drain: don't be afraid of it. Just check your Infection status. If it's near red, data drain can bring you to the Game over screen. However, if it's still blue or yellow, data draining's still okay. You still will have to contend with the random side effects (good & bad) though. And, it changes the enemy to a weaker type. Therefore, it will give you lower experience points when you kill it (like 1 exp). It's a trade-off actually.

yung status, nandun sa may folder ng skills ng data drain.. yung may silhouette ni kite..
basta, nag-iiba ng kulay yun pag medyo nasa higher level dungeons ka na.. sa lower level, di siya masyado naaapektuhan, mahina pa yung mga kalaban.. the bigger the enemies, the more dangerous it'll be to use data drain..

ok lang yan, talagang matagal yun.. ang strategy ko is healer (first aid only) ko si mistral, blackrose is the "all-out" attacker and ako "strategic" attacker.. "all-out" meaning attack lang siya nang attack (designate target) pero ako, hit-and-run.. so most of the time, si blackrose lang ang napapatay sa party ko..
plus, gamit ka ng power-ups like the bloods and the APs.. speed charms can really be handy.. (when skeith uses his staff/physical attack, i can immediately run away..)
i stocked-up on mage's soul, since mabagal magrecharge ang mp.. my mistral kasi uses so much magic on healing, removing status effects and reviving, so yun..
and yeah, i gave blackrose a lot of revives in case mistral and i die at the same time (which actually happened a few instances.. whew!)..
some say that increasing your water element would lessen the damage done by the "judgement" attack..
