I've been working in a financial information-provider company for a year now. But it's not the industry I want to build my career on. If you know any opening for a marketing job, please post here. Thanks!

What did you do in your old job? Did you do any finance work directly such as treasury, valuation, etc.?

Hello People,
Sorry for an off topic question, but...
What job opportunities are there for a standard atenean with Japanese language skills (Japanese proficiency level 2)? What and where are the companies that are looking for such specialized skills? Also, how much is salary for the new entrants?
What can you do with specialized language skills (Japanese) and a business degree from ADMU?
You see, I have not been home for quite a while, and there are very very few ateneans here in Japan. Just in case, I decide to quit my job here and look for a job over there, (i am getting tired over here by myself) what are the opportunities?
Moreover, (just broad ranges across the general industry) what are the salary ranges for a fresh ateneo graduate? Also, are the jobs at McDonald or Jollibee (yung cashier type) considered as full time jobs (given the high unemployment/underemployment rate) or are these jobs part-time only.
If the job is part time, how much are they paid per hour? per day?
Thank you very much for your thoughts. I appreciate it.

What kind of work did you do in Japan? You could apply for a multinational Japanese company and get an assignment in another country.

Thanks for replying.
Well, currently, I am working as a DTP computer operator here in Tokyo. The job is okay, but it is not the type that I would want to build my career or life. Basically, the job is just using to MS Office and other design software like Photoshop; or Illustrator. No heavy analysis like programming or such.
I think the reason I got the job is because of the combination of English, Japanese and the working knowledge of MS Office as a user.
The are many reasons as to why I took the job (kasama na rin yung love reasons; haponesa siya). but, recently things have changed. It would be more appropriate to discuss the "love aspect" in the other forums, but suffice to say,it did not work out, and I am left here. Moerover, the lack of supporting infrastructure like a network of friends is lacking and very unstable. Many Filipinos who are in here legally leave after their stint is over. The remainging ones are very busy with their own lives and/or are overstaying their visas.
Some people have advised me to stay around here because of the high salary (pero malaki din ang gastos sa Tokyo, kaya tabla lang), and that the Philippine economy is still in the doldrums (from what I have heard and read in the internet). Pero, mahirap talaga makahanap nang trabaho ngayon, so I am still lucky. I can see homeless people around Tokyo, and even the Japanese themselves are having a hard time looking for a job.
I just would like to know if it is worth going back home, work (getting a good working experience) and perhaps leave again if the opportunity arises or, staying here and hoping to advance myself by taking the CFA (Thanks reyesaa for the informative inputs about it). After all, makakatipid ka rito kung hindi ka magastos
Thus, even if the job is getting to be boring, but the pay is good; then I can still live with for the moment. Which brings me to the question of salary, The average salary the new graduate over here would be approximately 160,000-220,000 YEN per month (does not include bonuses which is 3-6 month times at 125 YEN=1 USD ). Thus, in US dollar it is about US$1,280-$1,760 per month). Furthermore, the minimum wage here at the McDonalds (yung cashier type) is at 700-900 YEN per hour (at 125YEN - 1 dollar) which is about $5.6-$7.2 per hour.
HOWEVER, expenses are also very very expensive over here especially food and rent kaya bawi lang. Kung gigimik ka gabi-gabi ubos yung pera.
Of course, I know that when I quit and work in the Phil, it will definetly be lower since living expenses are lower too, but at least I might be getting a more interesting job and supporting infrastructure like friends and family will be there.
Thus, I asked about the kinds of jobs and the salary scale so that when I do decide to come back, I will be ready.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I take it that you are fluent in Japanese. If so, that is a huge advantage if you are planning a career in business. An increasing number of Japanese companies are restructuring themselves and part of it is bringing in foreign management. However, one of the things that they are looking for are foreigners who can bridge the cultural gap which means that language fluency is a big asset. Taking a CFA will be helpful in making that transition to business if you are interested in investment management. You could even supplement this w/ an MBA. Last weekend, a large delegation of Japanese companies went to Boston to recruit students from American MBA schools and they got a flood of applications. Leverage on your Japanese skills and you'll be very marketable.

Late_bloomer_gurl,
Depends on what kind of writing skills you have. The Office of Strategic and Special Studies, OSS, in Camp Aguinaldo is always looking for writers. They publish something called The OSS Digest, dealing mainly with military topics but heavy on political developments, international relations, and a bit of economics. They mostly look for people with writing and reserch skills, not necessarily those with any kind of military bent or background. If I were you I'd look them up, they're on the AFP Homepage under the office of The Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans (OJ-5). Dunno what kind of salary you're looking for but they offer P10,000 a month to start, no taxes and no deductions. Look for Mr. Rino Francisco, he's a nice guy and should be a big help. They're starting up a new division there called Revolutions in Military Affairs and need writer-researcher types. Don't freak out with the military shit, you can find them on any search of the Web to get a backgrounder. Good Hunting Gurl.

YO! Hope you get back to this thread. Remember that job lead I told you about? Now there are two vacancies in the same office. Two of their guys have resigned. One's going to the University of Hawaii to pursue Masteral studies, the other's going to get into Art Studies at PWU or someplace. Anyway, bottomline is that there are now TWO vacancies there. Look for Mr. Rino Francisco, he's a nice guy and should be able to help you out. Get to it gurl!
